South Lake Tahoe man accused of cashing fraudulent check and possessing narcotics
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/05/2016 - 9:09amA South Lake Tahoe man is in the Douglas County Jail after he and seven others cashed fraudulent payroll checks at area casinos.
Between August 19 and 25, 2016, checks totaling $16,693.98 were falsely written on an account owned by Twenty Two Bistro of Squaw Valley according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).
After it was known that people were cashing the fraudulent checks at local casinos, Lakeside Inn notified DCSO that South Lake Tahoe resident John Liska had attempted to cash one in the amount of $976.15 on August 29 and was taken into custody.

Woman arrested, accused of starting 450-acre Willow Fire in Calaveras County
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/29/2016 - 8:24amA woman driving on a country road on the rims of her car is suspected of starting multiple fires which make up the Willow Fire, a 450-acre fire currently burning in Calaveras County.
An investigation by peace officers with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne – Calaveras Unit determined that Renee Hogan drove on a flat tire along Mountain Ranch Road, east of the town of San Andreas, when sparks created from the dragging metal rim started several fires in the surrounding vegetation.

Sheriff asking for public's help in locating suspect in attempted television theft

A silver Dodge pick-up truck with two men inside drove into the parking lot of the Gardnerville Walmart. The passenger was dropped and then the driver took the truck around the building and parked by the emergency exit doors.
Pair facing charges including counterfeiting and forgery

On August 17, 2016, at approximately 6:45 a.m., the deputies went to the car which was in the roadway of Strolling Hills Road at the entrance to Safeway in Cameron Park. Once there they contacted two women, Tanya Starks, 35, and Kimberly Higgins, 47.

Police arrest person of interest for sexual assault in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/08/2016 - 4:04pmA South Lake Tahoe man is behind bars after being identified as a possible suspect in at least one of the recent assault crimes in the community.
Oscar Raygoza Huerta, 23 of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested on Friday, August 5 on charges of assault intent to commit mayhem or rape, a felony. He is currently in the El Dorado County jail on a $100,000 bail hold.
Last week, South Lake Tahoe Police detectives released sketches of the suspect created after interviews with two of the victims. Leads from those photos led to the arrest.

Few people living in Nevada today know that Baby Face Nelson, whose given name was Lester Gillis, spent a great deal of time in Nevada. He was avoiding the heat from authorities in the Midwest. In Reno, he was afforded protection from arrest and incarceration because of his connections to Bill Graham and James McKay. Their political and business connections covered almost the entire state.

Seven jailed in door-to-door care packages for soldiers cash scam
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/01/2016 - 8:49pmSeven out-of-state men were arrested Saturday on felony fraud and other charges after officers uncovered a scam where the suspects allegedly went door-to-door asking for money donations they said would be used to assemble care packages sent to U.S. soldiers overseas, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Officers began investigating the men after dispatch received several calls from Carson City residents who said they were asked for money from one of the men and the pitch that was being used didn’t appear to be legitimate, according to the arrest report.
National attention on drunk fan at Celebrity Golf after touching Timberlake's face

TMZ reported that a fan "slapped" the face of celebrity golfer Justin Timblerlake (JT) as he was walking through Edgewood, surrounded by a mob of fans.
It appears to be more of a touch, and JT, though apparently irritated didn't want to file charges. “Why would you do that?” JT asked the man.
Three local men arrested in connection with theft of 1,100 Heavenly ski vouchers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/19/2016 - 5:28pmAn investigation into the March 10 theft of $116,520 worth of Heavenly Valley ski pass vouchers has led to the arrest of three men on suspicion of conspiracy, felony embezzlement, theft and possession of stolen property.
On July 15 and 16, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took into custody Tim Jacobsen, 21, of Minden, Nev., Mark Graham, 20 of Gardnerville, Nev., and Angelo Bozin, 25 of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Bail has been set on each man at $10,000.00.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/14/2016 - 3:20pmA South Lake Tahoe man is sitting in the El Dorado County Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping, kidnapping, violation of a restraining order, and spousal battery.
55-year-old Steven Ray Baldwin was arrested on July 6, 2016 after he entered the apartment of an ex-girlfriend the prior day. She was able to escape, but Baldwin is accused of then grabbing her by the hand and wrist, and forcibly returning her to the apartment.
Baldwin fled prior to the arrival of police, but other officers located him the next night and arrested him.
South Lake Tahoe man sentenced to prison for sex crimes against a minor
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/14/2016 - 11:02amSouth Lake Tahoe resident Ronald Scott Williams was sentenced to three years in State Prison on Friday, July 8.
In El Dorado County Superior Court, the 27-year-old was found guilty of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor age 14-15.
Williams was originally arrested on September 29, 2015 on an arrest warrant for the crime committed in the County area of the South Shore on August 4, 2015. He had been out on bail until his sentencing.

Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2016 - 4:20pmFor the 96 hours that made up the 4th of July weekend this year, South Lake Tahoe police arrested 27 people, nine of them on the holiday.
SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler said they could have made more arrests, but his officers look for a peaceful solution. If there is a sober adult in the situation, police will many times let them take care of the person in their party who'd been drinking. This leaves officers available and on the streets in case of emergencies, and not tied up with paperwork.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/01/2016 - 1:04pm8:30 p.m. update 7/1/16: The investigation of Friday's bank robbery at the Al Tahoe branch of El Dorado Savings led to the identification of Gabriel Antonio Evans, 36, of South Lake Tahoe as the suspect.
Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Evans and a search warrant for his residence in the 3000 block of Riverside Avenue. Due to Evan’s past violent criminal history, the SWAT team was employed to make the arrest. Officers, assisted by the FBI, arrested Evans at his residence at 7:45 p.m. this evening.
Cameron Park man faces new allegations of child molestation

Kingsbury road rage incident leads to arrest of one driver
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/02/2016 - 1:02pmTwo vehicles driving down Kingsbury Grade on Monday night were involved in a road rage incident that led to the arrest of a Stateline, Nevada man.
On May 30, 2016, at approximately 10:51 p.m., the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) received calls about a road rage incident between two cars driving down Kingsbury Grade. Both of the involved drivers called 911 to complain about the other driver's aggressive and possibly intoxicated driving.
During the incident it is alleged that a gun was pointed at a driver after which the parties separated.
Another South Lake Tahoe murder suspect arrested, this time in Oklahoma
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/01/2016 - 1:34pmThe fifth suspect in the January 30, 2016 murder of an Amador County man at the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe has been arrested. 26-year-old Dion Jermaine Vacarro, a former resident of Solano County, Calif., was arrested in Oklahoma City on suspicion of the murder on Dennis Wright, Jr. after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Douglas County deputies cleared in shooting death of Gardnerville man
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/17/2016 - 3:44pmAll six deputies involved in the July 2015 shooting of Mark Perkins have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing according to the Douglas County District Attorney, Mark Jackson.
At 2:00 p.m. on July 30, Douglas County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Gardnerville Ranchos after receiving a call saying the 48-year-old Perkins was armed with multiple weapons and had threatened his wife and told her he was going to shoot a police officer and kill a neighbor.

Hunt for Bigfoot, of course.
That is what South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Donna Kingman said she'll be doing after hanging up her shield after 29 years of working in the community. Her official last day is April 30, but Thursday was her last shift working in uniform.
Of course, she won't be hunting for Bigfoot in cold, shaded areas as she'll be seeking sun and a life of being "footloose and fancy free."
Douglas County Sheriffs looking for suspect in Stateline car burglary

Between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on March 24 a locked vehicle was burglarized. The suspect took numerous credit cards and personal items. Video surveillance captured an alleged suspect exiting a lcoal business where he attempted to use one of the stolen credit cards.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/28/2016 - 10:52amA 32-year-old Joshua Albericci of Gardnerville has been arrested on multiple charges stemming from his alledged assault and kidnapping of his 29-year-old wife.
Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a domestic dispute in the Gardnerville Ranchos area of the county on April 27, 2016 at 10:45 a.m. When they arrived at the home in the 800 block of Short Court, they learned that the victim had fled to a neighbor's home after being physically assaulted by her husband.

1 arrest for DUI, 21 citations issued for cell phone use, 1 citation for an individual cutting their hair while driving, 2 citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian, 89 for speed, 19 stop sign and traffic light violations. In addition, 41 citations were issued for other traffic related violations.
South Lake Tahoe murder suspect arrested in Texas
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/19/2016 - 3:08pmDomenic Seanlee Randolph, a suspect in the murder of Dennis Wright, Jr. at a South Lake Tahoe motel, was arrested Tuesday in Texas.
The 22-year-old-Randolph is the third suspect arrested for the January 30, 2016 shooting death of Wright, who allegedly brought 100 pounds of marijuana to the Beverly Lodge to sell. He was shot and killed in the motel's parking lot during an apparent robbery attempt.
Two arrested in Carson City on methamphetamine trafficking charges

Marell Maurice Johnson, 42, and Desire Lynn Kissel-Hunziker, 25, were arrested at the North Carson Street Taco Bell by the Nevada DPS Tri-Net team after a sale, and purchase, of drugs transpired. The pair allegedly had nearly 1 pound of high quality methamphetamine for sale on them at the time of their arrest.
South Lake Tahoe Police search for convicted sex offender
Submitted by admin on Fri, 04/08/2016 - 9:33amRafael Corea, a 61 year old former restaurant worker, has failed to register as a sex offender and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department would like to find him.
In 1995, Corea was convicted for lew and lascivious acts with a minor aged 14 or 15. As part of his conviction he much register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life, and he failed to do so in 2015 as required.
SLTPD detectives discovered Corea has moved out of his former residence in South Lake Tahoe and his current whereabouts are unknown, and they'd like the public's help in locating him.
Wayne Allen Huntsman may change not guilty plea in starting King Fire

South Lake Tahoe man seriously injured in felony hit and run in Meyers
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/28/2016 - 7:44amA South Lake Tahoe man was hit by a car on Saturday night, resulting in serious injuries and an arrest for felony hit and run.
Scott Murphy, 26, was walking along the eastbound side of Highway 50, east of Apache Avenue, talking to his girlfriend on the phone at about 9:45 p.m. on March 26 according to the California Highway Patrol. A BMW driven by Roberto Luna, 21, was also heading east and, for unknown reasons, allowed the right front side of his car to hit Murphy. Luna, of San Francisco, Calif., was driving an estimated 50 mph, ten miles above the posted speed limit.
Student arrested at South Tahoe High after bringing a knife to school

"There was no immediate threat to our students thanks to vigilance of school personnel," said STHS Principal Chad Houck.
The student was booked into El Dorado County Jail on a felony charge of bringing a weapon to school. He has since been released. His bail had been set at $10,000 but it is unknown what he posted.
Frank Sinatra Jr, dies, was just 19 when kidnapped from Harrah's Tahoe in 1963
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/16/2016 - 9:30pmFrank Sinatra Jr., the son of the legendary entertainer who also had a long musical career of his own, died Wednesday at a Daytona Beach, Florida hospital. He was 72.
Sinatra had been on his "Sinatra Sings Sinatra" tour and was scheduled to perform at the Peabody Auditorium on Wednesday. The venue posted an announcement in social media that the singer had taken ill.
Carson City man arrested on slew of charges in El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/10/2016 - 5:26pmAn early morning armed robbery in Camino, Calif., led to the arrest of 22-year-old Aaron Friesen of Carson City on charges of robbery, vehicle theft and on an outstanding felony warrant for domestic violence.
At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, the Wine County Station just off Highway 50 was robbed at gunpoint with the suspect getting away in a vehicle. An alert witness at the scene gave law enforcement detailed information about both the suspect and the vehicle used in the getaway.
El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy on paid leave has third DUI
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/09/2016 - 7:25pmJohn "Tony" Broadfoot, a deputy with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on March 4 on charges of driving under the influence after an accident in the Shingle Springs area. This was Broadfoot's third DUI arrest in as many months.
On December 8, 2015, Broadfoot was placed on administrative leave after being arrested on DUI charges by the CHP in South Lake Tahoe. Then on February 25, 2016, he was arrested, again by CHP officers, when found to be under the influence after rolling his vehicle near Ice House Road and Highway 50.
South Lake Tahoe Police Chief: Updates on crime, cleanup and murder case

Our property crime rate is up 6% (from 516 in 2014 to 548 in 2015). This was not unexpected as we reported on a significant upward trend in property crime 6 months ago. Total crime is down 2.2% over last year.
Four arrested after high speed chase through Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe crime

Two different high speed chases through the Carson Valley and up Kingsbury Grade resulted in the arrest of two men and two women on Saturday, February 27, 2017.
At 3:10 p.m., a trooper from the Nevada Highway Patrol spotted a silver Mercedes-Benz with California plates going down U.S. 50 (Spooner Summit) at 85 mph. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper, instead turning South on Highway 395 towards Minden, Nev., at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/22/2016 - 5:33pmThe owner of Lake Tahoe Brewing Company was arrested Monday on a felony theft warrant involving brewing equipment sold to a man in British Columbia in which he paid the suspect $45,000 for equipment he never received, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.
Michael Candelario was taken into custody on suspicion of theft of property valued at $3,500 or more. The dollar amount of the alleged theft related to equipment is $45,000, said Detective Sam Hatley. He was arrested at the Carson City brewery and booked into Carson City jail. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
