Gang sweep in El Dorado County

Four people were arrested earlier this week in El Dorado County when the El Dorado Gang Enforcement Detail (EDGE) contacted several gang members at their homes.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County Probation, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department participated in the sweep on May 18.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy arrested on drug charges in Nevada

Douglas County Sheriff's Officers responding to a reported domestic dispute in Minden, NV ended up arresting El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Zlendick on felony drug charges.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, officers responded to the 1300 block of Centerville Road. During the investigation, deputies located narcotics and paraphernalia and arrested Zlendick, a member of the South Tahoe El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (SLEDNET).

Counterfeit bills on rise in El Dorado County; One arrest made

Several counterfeit bills have been used for transactions on the west slope of El Dorado County, even days after the arrest of one suspect. On May 8, the Sheriff Deputies were called to the Round Table Restaurant in Pollock Pines after a man tried to buy food with a counterfeit $100 bill. He and a woman left before deputies arrived but a description of the pair and their vehicle was provided to EDCSO.

Craigslist ad leads to arrest of two South Lake Tahoe men

Members of the Western El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (WENET) arrested two South lake Tahoe men on Thursday, April 30 after a week long investigation into circumstances surrounding a Craigslist ad.

David Anthony Reading of South Lake Tahoe responded to the ad of a motorcycle for sale on the west slope of El Dorado County. A county resident posted the ad and was contacted by Reading who offered the seller illegal narcotics as payment for the motorcycle.

The concerned citizen contacted the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Counterfeit ring broken up in El Dorado County

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies arrested five Bay Area residents on Thursay who are accused of being part of a counterfeit credit card ring.

On April 30, 2015 at about 1:00 p.m., deputies responded to Red Hawk Casino for a fraudulent use of a credit card. Red Hawk casino security reported two persons inside the casino attempted to use forged or stolen credit cards in an attempt to obtain cash. One was described as an adult Hispanic man and the other as an adult African American woman.

Federal prosecutors have dropped charges against a Tuolumne County man accused of starting a massive 2013 wildfire that burned for more than two months and eventually charred more than 257,000 acres in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park.

Female South Lake Tahoe sex offender called 'dangerous'

A 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman, described as dangerous, is being sought by police after she reportedly violated her parole and failed to register as a sex offender.

Jaime Lynn Olson's prison sentence stems from her arrest for kidnapping, sexual battery, multiple counts of forced oral copulation and false imprisonment, officials with the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post.

Thursday afternoon, Dave Stevenson, with the El Dorado County District Attorney's investigation division, said Olson and a man are believed to have committed a kidnapping.

Arson arrest made in Fresno fire that injured Fire Captain Pete Dern

Investigators say a woman arrested for a fire that severely injured a Fresno fire captain has a history with fire. Julia Harper, 52, is jailed on charges of setting a fire causing great bodily injury. Fire Captain Pete Dern was nearly killed while trying to put out the fire Harper allegedly started.

North Lake Tahoe woman arrested on suspicion of $850,000 embezzlement

A 61-year-old Carnelian Bay woman has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $850,000 from a business in Incline Village.

Washoe County sheriff's deputies say Pamela Kircher was arrested Thursday in the case involving an Incline Village business. She is accused of embezzling the money over a seven-year period.

Investigators declined to identify the business, but say Kircher most recently worked as a housekeeper at various locations in Incline Village. The victims became suspicious of Kircher late last year and contacted the Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

Stolen tip jar turns into arrest of South Lake Tahoe man on multiple charges

South Lake Tahoe resident Johnathan Alberto Lemus, 27, was arrested on Saturday, April 11 on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police reports, Lemus allegedly stole a tip jar from Tahoe Bowl and left the business located on Fremont Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The Police Department was called and as they were taking the report the suspect was spotted by a High Sierra Patrol security officer at nearby Inn by the Lake.

Carson City man arrested for double-crossing cops, steals money for drug deal

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on multiple felony charges after allegedly agreeing to wear a wire for a drug deal and then fleeing with $850 given to him by law officers in order for him to make the transaction, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The man’s 29-year-old sister, also faces felony charges after allegedly aiding and assisting in his escape.

Manslaughter charges filed after deadly South Lake Tahoe accident

A South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested on Wednesday, April 8, on manslaughter charges stemming from a November, 2014 accident on Pioneer Trail where speed and alcohol were involved.

Pot dispensary sues El Dorado County over raid

The former operator and members of a Diamond Springs marijuana dispensary are suing El Dorado County to recover seized marijuana, medical records and financial documents taken in a Sheriff’s Department raid last year.

The Pure Life Collective has been shuttered since the Nov. 17, 2014, raid, which resulted in the arrest of dispensary operator Kelly Chiusano. No charges have been filed.

Suspect sought in Gardnerville Pizza Hut robbery

An armed suspect robbed the Pizza Hut in Gardnerville at gunpoint on March 23, asking the clerk for all the money from the cash register.

At 8:15 p.m., the unknown man entered the restaurant located at 1362 Hwy 395 in Gardnerville, NV. After getting the money he left the store on foot, out of view.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The suspect is described as 5'10 or 5'11 inches tall, medium build, wearing dark sunglasses, a dark gray or black pullover hoodie, a navy blue neckerchief and a solid white neckerchief.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office looking for Ulta burglary suspects

On March 5, a theft occurred at the Ulta store in Carson City and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects.

At 5:14 p.m., a male and female entered the store located at 911 Topsy Lane. They began looking at perfume, and while the female began a conversation with the employees at the front counter the male exited he store with several fragrance packs. The female suspect exited the store shortly after.

Both suspects were seen leaving the parking lot in a red 4-door sedan.

Suspected arsonist Wayne Huntsman remains in the county jail in South Lake Tahoe, awaiting his court trial. Huntsman is accused of setting the September, 2014 King Fire which burned almost 100,000 acres near Pollock Pines.

A trial setting conference has been set for March 13 in Department 2 of Superior Court of El Dorado County.

Ex-South Lake Tahoe fire captain indicted for sexual exploitation of minors

A federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment today against Mark McLeod Wygant, 44, resident of Chico and former South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain, charging him with Sexual Exploitation and Attempted Sexual Exploitation of Minors, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

South Lake Tahoe fire captain facing child pornography charges resigns

Mark Wygant, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain who is facing federal charges of possessing child pornography, resigned Wednesday according to City officials.

On January 29, 2015, Wygant was arrested following a federal investigation into his receiving child pornography. He was placed on paid administrative leave at the time but with his resignation he terminates the paid status.

All too often, we hear from people who have been victimized by some sort of scam. Before the internet existed these “confidence scams” were frequently perpetuated through direct contact and bolstered by a victim who is too trusting. With the internet and other technology, criminals have shifted their efforts so as to accomplish their rip-off over long distances and without direct contact. Unfortunately, local law enforcement has limited capacity to track and ultimately prosecute such crimes.

CHP starts weekend campaign; Don't Drink and Drive on Super Bowl Sunday

The California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to be on the winning team on Super Bowl Sunday by not drinking and driving. With plenty of parties around the South Shore, including those at the casinos, local bars and private homes, the opportunities to drink will be plentiful.

California's Office of Traffic Safety reports a DUI arrest can add up to more than $17,000. The biggest hit comes from insurance premium increases, which can be upwards of $12,000.

City of South Lake Tahoe wins case in Federal Court

A 2011 false arrest complaint against the City of South Lake Tahoe by Patrick Solomon ended up in a jury trial in Federal Court's Eastern Division in Sacramento. On Thursday the jury came back with a decision siding with the defense, stating that there was no wrong doing on behalf of the City or the police department.

The case started when Solomon was arrested on January 21, 2011 for assaulting an El Dorado County Sheriff's Officer Deputy Brandon Pena.

Officer Pena was a County correctional officer and knew the plaintiff during his time as an inmate at the El Dorado County jail.

Three arrested in South Lake Tahoe after $30,000 robbery

Father and son arrested in South Lake Tahoe for weapons and drugs

A father and son were arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday evening for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs in the 800 block of Tallac Avenue.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department's SWAT team and SLEDNET detectives served a high-risk warrant on the residence that resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Richard Martin and his 23-year old son Joshua Martin.

Over the last three months, investigators had been examining several different cases that were all affiliated with the Tallac Avenue address where both Martins resided.

Pound of meth seized, three arrested in bust that focused on Dayton, Moundhouse

Three have been arrested after a monthlong investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Dayton and Moundhouse areas, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday night.

The investigation, which ended Jan. 21, led to the seizure of a pound of methamphetamine, eight firearms, and $4,500 in cash and involved two search warrants in the Dayton and Moundhouse area. Each of the three suspects are being held on $1 million bail.

Are you prepared for a rise in burglaries?

Since the beginning of December, 2014 there have been 19 thefts, six burglaries and two robberies reported in the South Lake Tahoe city limits. While many of these are petty thefts, others have resulted in the theft of valuable jewelry, electronics and other belongings from residences while the owners weren't home.

Have you protected your home to the best of your ability? Many of us may think that "it can't happen to me," but when a home was burglarized around the corner from me, I changed that mode of thinking and started looking into ways to better protect mine.

First degree murder charges filed in death of Douglas County infant

A 23-year old Carson Valley man is now facing first degree murder charges in the death of this two month old daughter Ava Getty.

The infant was brought into the Carson Valley Medical Center by her father, Trent Getty, on January 7 with serious injuries. According to Douglas County Sheriff's investigators, the infant died after suffering substantial injuries that were the result of traumatic abuse and inconsistent with the statement given by Getty regarding how the injury occurred.

3:00 a.m. - DUI - Lake Tahoe Blvd - 24-YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS STOPPED FOR AN EQUIPMENT VIOLATION AND FOUND TO BE UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE DUE TO HER LEVEL OF ALCOHOL INTOXICATION. A CHEMICAL TEST REVEALED A BAC OVER .08%. THE SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED ON THESE CHARGES.

Douglas County man arrested in child abuse case; Infant dies

1/10/15 11:45 a.m. update - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child abuse case involving a 2 month old infant.

On January 10, 2015 at 12:48 a.m., the two month old infant was taken off life support and died. The cause of death is pending autopsy.

Suspect Trent Getty was located in Sacramento, California at a Greyhound Bus Depot and was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department. Suspect Getty is in custody in the Sacramento County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Douglas County, Nevada.

Investigation continues.

Arrest made in deadly Incline Village accident

A New Year's Day head-on collision on Mt. Rose Highway left one person dead, two sent to Renown Hospital by helicopter with major injuries and one taken by ambulance with serious injuries. The accident happened when a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo crossed over the center line and struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty. All three occupants of the Liberty were taken to the Reno hospital.

The driver of the Isuzu left the scene on foot after the accident which occurred just after 6 p.m. Witnesses said he was bleeding and looked injured.

SnowGlobe two days in: 52 arrests and six noise complaints

With crowds approaching 14,000 nightly, one would expect some complaints and arrests. SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe had both during the first two nights.

On Monday, the first night of the techno-music concert there were 17 arrests for miscellaneous alcohol related violations, mainly minors in possession of alcohol or providing alcohol to a minor. There was one arrest for selling drugs and two noise complaints phoned into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's dispatch.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign in South Lake Tahoe

In the United States, 31% of all traffic fatalities involve drunk driving which means 10,322 people are killed by drunk drivers annually, with 802 of those in California alone.

With holiday parties and festive occasions, more people will be drinking that during a normal week.

Ex-Douglas County Sheriff deputy among Nevada residents sought in casino takeover

Northern Nevada’s U.S. Marshals-led fugitive task force is asking for the public’s help in tracking three men accused if a violent takeover of a casino in Madera County, California.

Sought are 46-year-old Timothy Tofaute and 35-year-old David Dixon, both residents of Sparks, and 38-year-old Brian Auchenbach of Gardnerville.

Felon with stolen car and loaded gun arrested by CHP in South Lake Tahoe

The driver of a white Ford sedan who was trying to evade CHP officers in South Lake Tahoe early Tuesday morning ended up booked into the El Dorado County Jail.

Gangs are a problem in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe may be a small city of around 23,000 residents but it isn't immune to the big city problems of gangs.

Our mountain hamlet has white gangs, a black gang, hispanic gangs, motorcycle gangs and even white supremacists and sometimes they cross racial lines in order to beef up numbers. The gang names won't be mentioned in this article because of the advertising value it would give them as they try and recruit children and new members.

Last week's arrest of three gang members for a home invasion robbery brought the comment to the forefront..."Tahoe has gangs?"

Home invasion robbery leads to the arrest of three suspected South Lake Tahoe gang members

Three South Lake Tahoe men are sitting in the El Dorado County Jail tonight on charges ranging from participating in a criminal street gang, conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, robbery to manufacturing a controlled substance.

The charges stem from a home invasion robbery on October 11. Four men forced their way into a home in the Ski Run Blvd area, assaulted the victim and stole personal property. The victim reportedly knew the perpetrators.

Douglas County Deputies arrest pair for string of auto burglaries

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office have two Chico, California residents in custody after they were arrested as suspects in a series of vehicle burglaries.

Lisa Vantine and Jacob Donovan were arrested on Thursday, October 16 in the Auto Zone parking lot in Gardnerville as they were pulled over while driving a tan Toyota with stolen license plates out of California.

South Lake Tahoe Police Warn Residents of Jury Duty Scam

Several residents of the South Lake Tahoe community were scammed out of thousands of dollars over the weekend by fraudulent phone callers identifying themselves as law enforcement officers. The callers, who apparently sounded very convincing and knew names of local judges, court clerks and officers, told the unsuspecting citizens that there were warrants for their arrest due to failing to respond to a jury duty summons.
