U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Motorists can expect the eastbound and westbound turn lanes from U.S. Highway 50 at Bedford Avenue and the eastbound off-ramps at Broadway and Schnell School Road to be closed from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday for the annual Placerville Christmas Parade.

For those wondering about the old Caltrans traffic camera at the Y: it is being replaced and when received there will be a lane closure coordinated for installation.
The camera at the new roundabout in Meyers can be rotated to analyze traffic needs and will not be aimed just at the roundabout for the time being.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Motorists can expect intermittent short delays on State Route 89 at Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma from 6:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24 and from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, August 25 due to the Lake Tahoe Triathlon.
Search teams from Placer and El Dorado County Sheriff's offices search for men missing in area rivers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/04/2019 - 11:46pmThe Placer County Sheriff's Office was called to the American River Confluence Tuesday evening just before 5:00 p.m. on a report of a young man hanging from a tree, yelling for help. One of their deputies saw the unidentified man going down the river but lost sight of him. The Placer Sheriff helicopter was called in to aid in the search but they could not locate the missing man. The search was called off due to darkness.
The American River Confluence is in Auburn.
Woman seriously injured in South Lake Tahoe bike accident

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 39-year-old woman from Auburn, California is currently at Barton Hospital after an accident in front of the Grocery Outlet Store in South Lake Tahoe Sunday evening.
The woman was riding a small electric bicycle in a westerly direction on the sidewalk when she apparently lost control of the bike on loose gravel, causing her to fall onto the roadway where she was hit by a car, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Jason Cheney.

District 1 spans California’s northeastern corner from the Oregon border to Lake Tahoe, including some of the Sacramento area’s eastern suburbs. Residents living in Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, and Siskiyou Counties are in District 1 as well as parts of Placer County (Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Loomis, and Rocklin) and Sacramento County (Folsom, Orangevale, and Fair Oaks).

These shutoffs will affect about 70,000 customers.
South Lake Tahoe is served by Liberty Utilities and not part of the utility company's plan to start proactively shutting off power for safety as early as 5 p.m. Sunday and continuing through the evening.

For the past ten months, the 18 graduating men and women have been put through the tough physical, emotional, operational and educational requirements of becoming a firefighter.

Couple safe after overnight rescue on Mt. Tallac
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/26/2017 - 12:03amEl Dorado County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, with assistance from a California Highway Patrol Helicopter, made an overnight rescue of a married couple on Mt. Tallac Monday morning.
At 3:00 a.m. October 23, the Sheriff's Office received a call for rescue on the eastern slope of Mt. Tallac.

The Venerable Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim, a Tibetan Buddhist monk of the Gelug order, will be in South Lake Tahoe as part of The Loft's speaker series on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Geshe-la trained in philosophy and sacred art at Gaden Shartse Monastic University in Southern India and for many years toured the world as sand mandala master for the Sacred Arts of Tibet tours. He currently lives in Auburn, Calif.
The evening's schedule includes an optional dinner, meet and greet, and teaching session.

Boy suspected of starting Auburn fire while smoking marijuana
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/20/2017 - 2:41pm8:45 p.m. update: A juvenile has been arrested by CalFire law enforcement officers for starting Thursday's fire in Auburn.
The boy told officers that he was smoking marijuana when the nearby brush caught fire. He then called and reported the fire. He was taken into custody by CalFire at the scene and booked at the Placer County Juvenile Hall on arson-related charges.
I-80 to close in both directions two hours tonight to repair mudslide damage
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/31/2017 - 2:07pmCaltrans is alerting motorists that Interstate 80 (I-80) will be closed in both directions from 11 p.m. Tuesday, January 31 to 1 a.m. Wednesday, February 1 at the following locations to allow the repair of power transmission lines damaged during the January 8 mudslide just west of the Donner Lake Interchange.
Westbound I-80 will be closed at Donner Park Road (Exit 184). Automobiles will be detoured onto Donner Pass Road and can rejoin I-80 at the Donner Lake Interchange. Trucks will be turned at Exit 184 and are encouraged to find parking in the Reno area during the closure.
Another major storm for Lake Tahoe, feet of snow at lake level expected

On Friday, another round of heavy snow will start just after midnight Friday morning, impacting traffic throughout the day. Reno and the rest of Western Nevada will be impacted as well with up to several inches of valley floor snow.

Tahoe Rim Trail worker injured after serious fall
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/25/2016 - 4:04pmA worker on the Tahoe Rim Trail sustained serious injuries Thursday when he fell down a steep slope and landed on rocks near Heavenly Mountain Resort.
"The unidentified man was taken to the hospital with multiple traumatic injuries," Tahoe Douglas Fire Marshall Eric Guevin told South Tahoe Now. "He was with a snagged tree and thrown 40 feet down a 40 percent slope."
$583 million to be spent on California roads; Over $36 million in SLT

Firefighters gain on Trailhead Fire: 50% contained, burns 5,444 acres

Attendees will meet at Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center for a day of discovery and fun. Hopping aboard the bus at 9am, we will make our way to the California State Archives in Sacramento, with a stop in the heart of Gold Country, the Auburn State Recreation Area. Tickets are $60 ($55 for members) with limited seating. Reservations are required and parking for the day is included in the ticket price.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.
