As he reflects back on 30 years in uniform for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Lt. Brian Williams knows the dates that will be forever etched into his memory. 12/29/1986, 6/10/1991, 1/29/1997, 10/25/2005 and 8/26/2009.

Arrests made in El Dorado County human trafficking operation

An undercover operation targeting human trafficking and prostitution in Placerville was conducted on March 3, resulting in several arrests.

Detectives from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office researched ads on dating websites regarding escorts, made contact with them via phone and set up dates at a local motel. During the operation six female escorts responded to the room, all from out of the area. Three were arrested and booked into jail, two were cited with a promise to appear and one was released to victim services.

Man who brought kidnapped woman to South Lake Tahoe spending 40 years in prison

Matthew D. Muller, a 40-year-old disbarred lawyer from Orangevale who often spent time at his family cabin in the South Lake Tahoe area, was sentenced today to 40 years in prison for the kidnapping Denise Hoskins at the Vallejo home she shared with her boyfriend on March 23, 2015.

City denied Bijou Park Creek Watershed grant, for now

It's been one year since the City of South Lake Tahoe was denied a grant by the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) for their Bijou Park Creek Watershed and SEZ Restoration Project, and today, the Conservancy Board did it again.

Choices for Children and the City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Services hosted Day of the Young Child on Saturday March 11, 2017. Twenty-seven agencies came together to offer a wide variety of early childhood activities including art, sensory activities and physical activities. Children enjoyed face painting, beading, painting, play
dough, planting, rock climbing, paper collages, chalk art, Pequeños Rascal Learning Center dancers and more. It truly was a lively day for families to connect and get information on community resources.

Kudos: Warm Room open house a success

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. – Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless hosted over 100 people at the second South Lake Tahoe Warm Room Open House event on February 22, 2017. We were proud to honor City Councilwoman Wendy David for her participation in the establishment of the Warm Room. David was facilitator of the Lake Tahoe Collaborative when a committee was established to create a vision and a plan for the Warm Room. Her support through nonprofit collaboration and in her role at the City of South Lake Tahoe has been greatly appreciated by all at TCH who have had the honor to work with her.

LTUSD provides assurance of education for all students, no matter immigration status

Even though the United States Supreme Court declared in 1982 that local school districts have a constitutional mandate to educate all students residing within their jurisdictional boundaries, regardless of their immigration status, actions of President Trump have caused concern among the Latino population of South Lake Tahoe and many other communities.

City, County, State and law enforcement officials meet to discuss Tahoe traffic jams

Sunday traffic heading west from South Lake Tahoe has been a major problem from the city to Meyers all winter long. Last week, on March 5, there were reports of travel time on the 9.3 mile route along Highway 50 from Stateline to Meyers taking eight hours, and from the Y to Meyers, four hours for the 4.3 mile trip.

Teen in stable condition after stabbing self when warrant served at South Lake Tahoe home

A South Lake Tahoe teen is in stable condition tonight after stabbing himself as officers arrived at his home in the 800 block of San Jose Avenue with a no bail warrant for his arrest.

At approximately 12:51 p.m. on March 9, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, El Dorado County Probation Department and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department arrived at the juvenile offender's home and asked the suspect to exit the residence.

AT&T cell phone outage for 911 calls has been resolved

9:15 p.m. update: The outage has resolved according to AT&T, but it had affected customers from coast to coast.

"The outage was resolved by Wednesday night, according to AT&T, but it had affected customers from coast to coast,' ATT said on the Twitter page.

Grant proposals being accepted from those serving senior citizens

Friends of Seniors, a fund of the El Dorado Community Foundation, has announced the opening of their 2017 grant process. Friends of Seniors is a dedicated group of local volunteers who work independently during the year to raise funding for programs and services that improve and enhance the quality of life for seniors in El Dorado County.

This year they will be awarding a total of up to $10,000 in grants to El Dorado County nonprofits that support the wellness, life enrichment, dignity and independence of El Dorado County seniors.

South Lake Tahoe Democrats to start meeting monthly

McClintock hosts another raucous town hall in El Dorado Hills

More than 1,700 people turned out Saturday morning at an El Dorado Hills high school to once again let Republican Rep. Tom McClintock know how they feel about GOP policies and his support of President Donald Trump.

Like three other town halls McClintock has hosted in the past month, the majority of attendees were angry and spoke vehemently about recent changes in immigration law, the proposed repeal of the Affordable Care Act and civil rights issues.

Caltrans closing additional lanes on Highway 50

Caltrans is advising motorists to expect delays on U.S. Highway 50 in El Dorado County for emergency repair work in three locations.

The highway in Silver Fork between Weber Mill Road and Wildwood Way will be under daytime one-way reversing traffic controls Monday through Saturday for the next two weeks or more in order to have two new culverts installed under the highway and a drainage inlet cleared. Work started Wednesday.

Team rescues injured backcountry skier in Lake Tahoe

El Dorado County Sheriff's Office brought together a Search and Rescue team on Sunday, February 26 after they were notified of an injured woman in the Eagle Buttress area that needed to be rescued off the mountain.

The 56-year-old Truckee woman was in the backcountry skiing with a group when she suffered an injury to her leg and was unable to ski out on her own.

Eagle Buttress is located to the north of Eagle Lake near Emerald Bay.

Lake Tahoe road update; SR-89 at Emerald Bay may open Saturday

SR-89 at Emerald Bay may open Saturday after crews have made significant progress on clearing away snow from last week's storm as well as snow and debris 20 feet high from a slide that fell onto the highway at Vikingsholm.

Meanwhile, one lane of U.S. Highway 50 remains open in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls while emergency work continues on a major slipout that destroyed the #2 westbound lane and also impacted the #1 lane. Work there is also expected to take several months for the design and construction of a new retaining wall to stabilize the slope.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A fugitive pot plant trimmer suspected in the robbery and brutal killing of an operator of a commercial marijuana farm in Mendocino County was arrested in South Lake Tahoe Friday afternoon.

Man arrested after allegedly assaulting a South Lake Tahoe police officer and stealing his baton

A South Lake Tahoe man is sitting in the El Dorado County jail after being arrested on suspicion of several charges including headbutting a police officer, grabbing his baton and trying to also grab his weapon.

37-year-old Richard David Castello is being held on $192,500 bail for taking an officer's weapon, obstruction of justice and battery on a peace officer.

Snowboarder spends cold night lost in mountains after going out-of-bounds at Heavenly

A 32-year-old man is lucky to be alive today after spending the night lost in the mountains of South Lake Tahoe after snowboarding out-of-bounds at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) team was notified at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday that the man, identified only as "Aarin," was disoriented and lost. Aarin was able to call Heavenly Valley Ski Patrol to tell them he was in deep snow and having trouble navigating.

Road closures and chain controls in place as heavy snow hits South Lake Tahoe

3:40 p.m. update: It is taking three hours from the Y to Meyers, so if you're on the road you may want to consider going inside for the rest of the day. The snow is not letting up and there is a lot more to come.

Traffic heading west from South Lake Tahoe is still slow going, and there have been several weather and traffic relate incidents on US50 west of Lake Tahoe. At this time, emergency vehicles are at the scene of a three-car accident near Kyburz. The road has reopened but may need to close again to remove one of the cars.

What is best solution to keep visitors leaving Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 and not on side streets?

It's another snowy weekend, and another weekend of drivers trying to head home over Echo Summit via Lake Tahoe Blvd and North Upper Truckee Road. With a backup at the chain control stop in Meyers, many are trying to circumvent not only the traffic, but the controls and causing issues on snow covered side roads.

New Sprint cell tower to be installed this summer in South Lake Tahoe

The City of South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission recently approved a transmission and receiving facility replacement project which will bring a taller cell tower for Sprint to the South Shore.

A 150-foot monopole will be erected adjacent to the current 110-foot lattice tower. Once the taller pole is built on an elevated concrete pad surrounded by new fencing, the old tower will be dismantled.

Federal disaster loans available for some nonprofits affected by January's storms

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans for some California private nonprofit organizations. The federal government is offering assistance after the severe winter storms, flooding and mudslides hit the state Jan. 3-12, 2017.

The eligible nonprofits must provide essential services of a governmental nature.

El Dorado County Deputy District Attorney, Katie Dobler, passed away early Monday morning, February 13, 2017. She was 35 years old.

El Dorado County man drowns after car goes into American River

A Silver Fork man was on his way to work in Pollock Pines Friday when it is believed his vehicle crashed into the American River, sending him and his vehicle into the water.

Digger Gooch, 37, was westbound on Highway 50 February 10 when deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) believe he crashed into the river which was moving rapidly due to heavy rains in the area.

11:20 p.m. update: Power is coming back on to many residents who've been without it much of Friday night. Nevada Energy is now showing 502 customers still out in the 89449 area, 193 in the 89410, 45 in 89448, 31 in 89460 and 4 in 89423.

Liberty Utilities outages remain the same.

10:55 p.m. update: Liberty Utilities reports more Lake Tahoe customers are without power. In El Dorado County 143 customers, and in Placer County, 105 customers are without power.

With Highway 50 closed, Sheriff tells drivers: Do not go by your GPS!

With the closure of Hwy 50 due to a mudslide, several motorists have taken to their GPS units to try to navigate around the closure. This has led to numerous parties getting stuck on roads that are closed during the winter, and in the end, has tied up valuable resources rescuing them from deep snow or impassable roads.

In the winter, the only safe alternate route when Hwy 50 is closed is to use SR88 to the South, or I80 to the North. You can take Hwy 49 in Placerville to reach either one. At this time though, both alternative routes are closed.

Friday Schools: SLT schools open, Incline closed, 2 hour delays at others

Heavy rain and snow has created some travel issues for school buses around the lake and in Washoe County. Here is an update of school schedules for Friday, February 10:

Tahoe Truckee schools are on a two-hour delay

Weekend traffic congestion in Meyers to be discussed at Monday meeting

El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel is inviting all county residents to join in a discussion about the traffic congestion in Meyers every weekend and holiday, hampering locals in their movement along surface roads and the highway.

As visitors depart South Lake Tahoe, many have become aware of side streets via google and phone apps, thus finding another route that they think is getting them around the backup.

Power outage to Lake Tahoe west and north shore, over 4,000 customers affected

5:10 p.m. update: There are currently electrical outages in South Lake Tahoe affecting about 162 customers. Crews are already working diligently to restore power to all customers.

Flooding affects homes and roads in South Lake Tahoe

There were several areas through South Lake Tahoe that experienced flooding on Tuesday as rain from an atmospheric river hit the region, with two Meyers area streets getting the brunt of the storm.

Caltrans, El Dorado County and City of South Lake Tahoe crews, along with homeowners worked through the day to get standing water off the road, out of driveways and even homes.

El Dorado County and Arizona residents indicted for embezzling more than $200K

Placerville resident Jeffrey Scott Davis, 59 has been charged on six counts of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and mail fraud along with Glen Michael Martinka, 67, of Phoenix, Arizona.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment after Davis and Martinka allegedly conspired to embezzle approximately $218,000 from an organic food company by submitting false invoices between December 2008 and April 2012.

Council to discuss marijuana ordinance for South Lake Tahoe

With the passage of Proposition 64 in November, South Lake Tahoe and other cities around the state are taking a look at their codes and regulations to be consistent with requirements that came with the legalization of marijuana for personal use. Californians voted 57.13 percent in favor of the proposition. On a local level, the vote was very close in El Dorado County with 50.07 percent of the voters against the legalization of marijuana.

Online map provides current status of El Dorado County roads, trails and parks

El Dorado County has added a new feature on its website that provides the most up to date information available about roads, parks and trails throughout the County. Users can open a map, and by clicking on icons, can get needed information before heading out. In addition to the status of County roads, parks and trails, the map has information from inside and outside of the County from Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.

Couple convicted of 2015 mail and identity thefts in El Dorado County

San Joaquin County residents Aman Izatt, 30, and Jarrod Izatt, 35, were sentenced to over 24 years in prison on January 27 for their part in a 2015 identity theft case in El Dorado County.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested as suspect in Tracy bank robbery

South Lake Tahoe Police Department detectives arrested a local man on February 1 on a warrant out of Tracy, Calif.
