Lake Tahoe Secret Witness offers $3,000 for arrest of Manpreet Singh's murderer

“Friends and family never forget and neither should we," said El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson as he asked for the public's help in solving the case.
Singh was the lone employee on the night shift at U.S. Gas on Lake Tahoe Boulevard when a gunman entered the store, shot and killed him.

Both men were interim directors as the departments were being reorganized and the search for director was underway.

Water restored to Tahoe Keys Marina
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/28/2017 - 10:13am4:30 p.m. update: At 3:35 p.m. Friday afternoon the water was turned back on at the Tahoe Keys Marina. The two parties, Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association and Tahoe Keys Marina Management Inc., were able to work out an arrangement to get things flowing again.
The marina's lawyer Michael Matuska said he will file notice with the court to vacate the August 3 hearing as the two parties will be working on a continued relationship out of court.
Matuska did not release the specifics of the arrangement that restored the water service which has been down since July 11.

El Dorado County receives loan to build 11-acre public safety complex
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/26/2017 - 11:03pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County has received a $57.14 million loan to build a public safety complex in Diamond Springs that will bring together the Sheriff’s Office operations which are currently spread out across 13 different locations in the county.
The loan is provided through the Community Facilities Direct Loan Program.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/26/2017 - 9:37pmDouglas County's lightning caused Preacher Fire is 20 percent contained this evening and has burned 5,386 acres since starting early Monday morning. The fire is burning in the Pine Nut Mountains in steep and hard to access terrain.
South of Folsom near Rancho Murieta, the Latrobe Fire has burned 1,000 acres and is now 40 percent contained. The fire, which started Wednesday afternoon, is near Latrobe Rd & Scott Rd.

Free tree removal for low-income El Dorado County seniors

“The tree mortality issues in our county remain very serious. We’re just happy to have this program available to assist private homeowners, especially our seniors with limited income, who have no other means to remove dead or dying trees from threatening damage to their homes,” said District IV Supervisor, Michael Ranalli.
Judge rules against Tahoe Keys Marina, water to stay off for now

With the water at the marina turned off, water is also turned off to the Fresh Ketch restaurant as well as apartments and businesses at the marina.
Free chipping service for city and county residents
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/18/2017 - 6:17pmResidents of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado county, Fallen Leaf Lake and Alpine County are encouraged to take advantage of the free curbside chipping service offered by the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD).
The free service will be offered through October, weather permitting.
Homeowners can work on their defensible space by removing limbs and slash on their property, then the chipping crew will come by and collect it, then convert into wood chips.
This action reduces flammable vegetation and helps homeowners protect their property from the threat of wildfire.
El Dorado County sends more money to Cal Tahoe JPA for ambulance services
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/17/2017 - 10:45pmMore money is on the way to the South Shore to fund ambulance services thanks to a unanimous vote by the El Dorado County Supervisors during their June 27 meeting. An amendment was made to the original contract between the Cal Tahoe Emergency Services Operations Authority (Cal Tahoe) and the County, giving an extra $790,000 per year as well as funds to buy a new ambulance.
The extra money will help fund a special team for interfacility transfers.

"People are very excited to get on the water," said Edwin Lyngar, Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) Water Educator. "Take safety precautions as you can't depend on luck."
Lyngar as well as both California and Nevada water safety experts were at Sand Harbor last week to inform the public about how easy it is to be safe on the water.

Head on collision on Black Bart Ave in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/14/2017 - 11:20pmThree people were`sent to the hospital Thursday afternoon after two cars collided on Black Bart Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.
Just after 4:00 p.m., the driver of one of the cars involved apparently fell asleep at the wheel, drifted over the yellow line into the path of a second car according to Ruth Loehr of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Loehr said both drivers were transferred to the hospital as well as one passenger.
CHP, El Dorado County Sheriff's officers, Lake Valley Fire and paramedics responded to the crash which closed a section of the road for almost an hour.
DUI Checkpoint somewhere on the South Shore Saturday

CHP has said they will be operating the checkpoint between 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. "somewhere in the east area of El Dorado County." This could be Meyers, South Lake Tahoe or Tahoma.
South Lake Tahoe gas station attendant's murder focus of Cold Case Task Force
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/13/2017 - 1:23amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Cold Case Task Force of the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office is seeking the public's assistance in solving the unsolved murder of South Lake Tahoe resident Manpreet Singh. Singh was the lone attendant on the night shift at U.S. Gas on August 6, 2013 when a gunman entered the store, shot and killed Singh.
A customer walked into the store that evening at 10:50 p.m. and called 911 to tell them Singh had been shot. Video from that night shows the gunman walk from Palmira Avenue and enter the store at 10:40 p.m.

Popular South Lake Tahoe waterfront restaurant closed after water shut off
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/12/2017 - 6:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An ongoing legal battle between the Tahoe Keys Marina and the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) has resulted in the water being shut off to all buildings at the marina.
Since the Fresh Ketch restaurant and adjacent deli are in one of those buildings, the El Dorado County Health Department shut them down due to a lack of water. A notice was also put up on the apartments in the complex advising residents of unsafe living conditions since there was no running water.
South Lake Tahoe massage parlor owner arrested for sexual battery

Qiteng "Eric" Lu, owner of Chinese Magic Massage at 3330 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, was arrested without incident on July 6 after a customer said that during her massage she was sexually battered.
Investigators from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) found enough cause to arrest Lu after interviewing the 34-year-old victim.

“The County is fortunate to have someone of Tameka’s ability to lead the Human Resources Department on behalf of our nearly 1,850 employees,” said Ashton. “She is highly regarded for being able to collaborate with county leaders throughout the State in regards to public sector human resources policies to reach decisions and outcomes that are for the greater good of an organization.”
El Dorado County DA speaks out against sanctuary state bill
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/07/2017 - 11:16pmVern Pierson, the El Dorado County District Attorney, testified against the "Sanctuary State Bill" in Sacramento on Wednesday.
Pierson spoke before the California Assembly Judiciary Committee.
"I’m strongly opposed to making California a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants," Pierson said. "Local, state and federal law enforcement officers need to be able to communicate with each other in regard to an important issue like immigration enforcement."
If Senate Bill 54 were to pass, state and local law enforcement would not be allowed to cooperate with immigration authorities.
El Dorado County Sheriff's Office looking for Lake Tahoe ski resort burglary suspect
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/06/2017 - 11:25amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) is looking for 30-year-old Mark DeForest who is wanted on suspicion of a November, 2016 burglary and grand theft from Sierra-at-Tahoe.
DeForest was arrested at the time and had an initial court date on November 23, 2016. He posted bail but has not been seen since then. A felony warrant is out for his arrest.
According to EDSO Detective Damian Frisby, DeForest has ties to both South Lake Tahoe and Vancouver, Wash. Frisby said nobody has reported seeing DeForest since November.

Hundreds join in search for missing 5-year-old; Found safe after night in the woods
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 11:22pmA 5-year-old boy was found safe and in good spirits Sunday morning after spending the night alone in El Dorado County.
On Saturday, two boys, ages 4 and 5 were camping and riding quads with their father when the dad's motorcycle broke down. The kids did not notice dad was no longer with them.
The 4-year-old was located immediately but the search for the older boy went into the night. Over 100 volunteers from 16 counties joined in the search on off-road highway vehicles, air support, K9 Teams and ground searchers and worked all night to locate the child.
Tracy man held on $1.5M bail after being arrested in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 4:09pmA 27-year-old man from Tracy, California was arrested in South Lake Tahoe Sunday after a warrant had been issued for his arrest on a slew of charges stemming with his relationship with a 16-year-old girl.
Since his arrest, Omar Oceguera has been transferred from the El Dorado County Jail to the San Joaquin County Jail where his sits on a $1.515 million bail hold.

With a very high lake level, and overflowing rivers, caution and safety are urged to have a fabulous weekend in Lake Tahoe.
And they aren't only going to be dealing with water safety. Rules and regulations along the beaches will also be enforced for safety reasons.

NAMI is dedicated to mental health awareness and improving the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families through support, education, and advocacy.
South Lake Tahoe and Placerville official Recycling Market Development Zone

This is a new designation for South Lake Tahoe and Placerville that will combine recycling with economic development to fuel new businesses, expand existing ones, create jobs and divert waste from landfills.
“With this designation, our County has another arrow in our economic development quiver to attract new business and help existing businesses expand,” said Tiffany Schmid in the County’s Economic Development Division. “And it helps make El Dorado County a greener place to do business.”
Paroled sex offender seen in Meyers arrested in Sacramento
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/27/2017 - 5:04pmThe California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Office of Correctional Safety Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested 25-year-old Alexander Childs in Sacramento Tuesday.
Childs was a parolee-at-large as his parole had been suspended for absconding and a warrant was issued for his arrest on May 19, 2017. El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies and other South Lake Tahoe area law enforcement had been looking for Childs after he said he was in the Meyers area on Thursday.

We received generous donations from community businesses, child care providers, and agencies. All donations will go directly to helping our community's youngest and most vulnerable residents stay clean, dry and healthy by ensuring they have the diapering supplies that they need.

Alert resident leads to arrest of couple in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/26/2017 - 9:58amA couple was arrested on multiple charges Friday after an alert citizen reported a suspicious vehicle at the dead end of Sundown Trail near Lodgepole Trail on the South Shore in El Dorado County.
Christy Marie, 34, and Kase Harley Krumwiede, 32, both transients, were in the parked car when El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy DeLeon arrived to investigate the call. Kase had a felony arrest warrant out of Oregon, and both had methamphetamine and paraphernalia on their persons. A loaded firearm with the serial number removed was located in a bag inside the vehicle.

First responders and resilient community honored on 10th anniversary of Angora Fire

On the 10th anniversary of the devastating fire that destroyed 254 homes as it burned quickly through 3,100 acres in the Meyers area of the South Shore, fire responders gathered at the Lake Valley Fire Department to honor those who served that day, and to honor the resilient community that supported them.
