Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on, in-the-field event. By pitching in, you will help improve the ecosystem function and the wildlife habitats that surround Lake Tahoe. Healthy forests and meadows act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue. The site we will be working in is one mile off of the Meeks Bay trailhead.

On Wednesday, August 4, at 6:30 pm, Chautauquan Kim Harris will present “Calamity Jane: Heroine of the Plains”.
Perhaps no woman embodies the spirit of the Western expansion more than Martha Jane Canary better known as “Calamity Jane”. She challenged society’s standards of behavior for women, and at the same time was admired for her generosity, honesty and lack of pretentiousness.

Throughout the month of September, people are encouraged to get outside and walk or hike with friends and family, or on your own. Physical activity and spending time outdoors is good for our mental wellness so this is the perfect time to encourage and empower others to join this movement.
All monies raised benefit the prevention, education and outreach programs at Suicide Prevention Network.

September 22, 2019 - 10:00am The final Chautauqua of the 2019 Festival season will portray Hiram D. Scott, Alpine County, California pioneer, on Sunday, September 22, at 10:00 am.
Hiram Daniel Scott was a ship builder from Pittston, Maine by trade. Initially he settled in Santa Cruz, California in 1847, then followed the Gold Rush when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. There he operated a ferry business across the San Joaquin River.

Dangberg Home Ranch Celtic Faire

September 14, 2019 - 10:00am On Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 am, the Dangberg Home Ranch Celtic Faire will be the final special event of the 2019 Dangberg Summer Festival.
A celebration of the Irish, Scottish and Welsh people who helped to settle Carson Valley will offer a day filled with entertainment and activities for all ages.
The gate opens at 9:00 am with the faire beginning at 10:00 am. From opening until noon, the Silver State Highlanders will be demonstrating heavy athletics such as “tossing the caber” and “weight for distance”.

July 10, 2019 - 6:30pm Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Lizzie A. Borden on Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30 pm, and historian Mark McLaughlin will speak on “Lake Tahoe and the Comstock Era; Stories, Facts and Fun” on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00 am, at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
Lizzie Andrew Borden was tried and acquitted in a court of law for the axe murders of her father and stepmother in 1892, in Fall River, Massachusetts. The court of public opinion sentenced her to a life of public scrutiny and branded her a social pariah.

The three-mile long Tahoe East Shore Trail opens to bikes and pedestrians

The Nevada Department of Transportation and Tahoe Transportation District, along with their partners in the project, celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday afternoon the three-mile path between southern Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.

New ceramic art studio opens in South Lake Tahoe

Owners and instructors, Colleen Sidey and Bryan Yerian are ceramic artists with over 40 years combined experience, Lake Tahoe Community College art faculty members, and local elementary school art enrichment teachers. Colleen and Bryan have lived in South Lake Tahoe for over ten years and created Compass Clay Studio as a way to provide the local community with access to the clay experience.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A family friendly event has been planned by the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless at their Tahoe Beach Bash on Saturday, July 20 from noon - 4:00 p.m.
This year’s event is being held at The Beach Retreat and Lodge located at 3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe. The Beach Bash includes live music, beachside barbecue, silent auction, games, a bounce house, face painting, beautiful lake views, beer and wine tasting, Homebrew for the Homeless’s home-brewed beer contest, and more.
All proceeds go to Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On March 23, 2019, participants will take to the slopes to raise funds for patients in the South Lake Tahoe area who are fighting cancer in the inaugural Pink Heavenly.
The Barton Foundation is joining Heavenly Mountain Resort in putting on the event with the hopes of giving cancer the boot by raising $250,000.

This year saw the introduction of professional sound engineers to help reduce the sound and new field protection to prevent further damage to our new play fields. The sound is reported to have been improved for many though the people who live nearest this event in Pioneer Village, along the Bijou Meadow, around Johnson Lane and in Sierra Tract continue to be bombarded by three days of sound.

A fun-filled day is headed to the South Shore during the annual Optimist Day in Paradise on Saturday, June 16.
Not only will they be holding their famous Duck Race but there will also be a car and truck show, pancake breakfast, music, food and games. This family friendly event will also have a Hog Roast and Beer Garden.
The pancake breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by the duck races at 10:00 a.m. and the beer garden and Hog Roast from noon to 7:00 p.m.

The classes are offered at both ends of the lake on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during May. This year's classes are potatoes, onions, raspberries, lettuce & kale, and tomatoes.
Each week will be a new theme. The workshops are all family friendly and attendees get to go home with plants for your home garden!
Classes will run from May 14 - June 14th, 2018 in the evenings.
Carson City show dog Adele wins Best of Breed at Westminster

“We are surrounded by incredibly beautiful dogs and very dedicated owners and handlers," said Belt. “The entire city is so welcoming.”
Adele is now advancing to the Sporting Group competition, which will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 Tuesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time.

This event has unfairly displaced local residents, invaded our homes with noise, closed access to whole neighborhoods, exposed our forests to unnecessary and dangerous potential for fire and attracted visitors who do not reflect the family friendly Lake Tahoe we want to be. Grab your bibs and crackers, the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe is holding their 36th annual Crab Feed on Friday, March 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Harrah's Tahoe. The popular event will have a new menu item added this year - Prime Rib.
The cost is $55 for adults, $25 for kids under 12 and includes iced crab, prime rib, soup, salad, bread, dessert, coffee and tea.
Not only will there be great food, but the energetic 7-piece dance band, Musicole, will provide the entertainment.
An extensive silent auction and no-host bar will round out the evening.

Friends of Snowshoe Thompson are holding their annual event to celebrate the life of the legend, who, between 1856 and 1876, delivered mail between Placerville, California and Genoa, Nevada on long skis. From 1868 to 1872, Thompson also served on the Board of Supervisors of Alpine County.
The 18th annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski and Snowshoe Celebration is moving to Lake Tahoe this year and will be held on February 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Firefighters and the release of the brand new Fog-Nozzle IPA will be both celebrated at South Lake Brewing Company during a family friendly event on Friday, January 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Local Freshies and the popular brewing business will host the release party which will serve as a fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy.
The night starts out with music from former fireman Kevin Marcy. Feel like you can firefight better than the pros? This will be your chance to compete against the pros in a water bucket brigade.
There will also be a raffle.
Beach Retreat turns into Winter Wonderland

Walk through the grounds and look at their lights and holiday decor that cover every inch of the resort and stay on display until mid-January. All Winter Wonderland events are family friendly, and some are even pet-friendly. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events.

New restaurant, pavilion and dock for Round Hill Pines resort

With demolition of the old structure nearly complete, work started last week on a new 3,000-square-foot facility overlooking the beach.
The new building will house a full commercial kitchen, retail space, restrooms, offices for the resort’s management and sales staff, and storage. The seating for the summer bar and grill will be in an open-air pavilion with retractable awnings.

City of South Lake Tahoe looks at temporary ban of marijuana sales

"We owe it to our community to make sure we take every measure to protect them," said SLT Mayor Austin Sass.
