Vail awards $2.8 million in grant support to 76 Lake Tahoe area nonprofits

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood recently held a breakfast to honor the recipients. The followed with a similar celebration at Northstar, the third area Vail resort.

The beautiful estate is being donated as well as the amazing catering skills of Bella Tahoe for the event.

Investigators say they arrest main source of meth, cocaine and heroin to El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/16/2020 - 2:54pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A two-month-long investigation into narcotics coming in to El Dorado County culminated with the arrests of one man and two women on February 11, 2020.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) narcotics team executed a search warrant at a home in Los Banos, California. Their investigation had led them to the home where two people, 28-year-old Julio Chavez and 29-year-old Dennise Castro-Lopez, resided. EDSO says the Los Banos residents were the main source of supply of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin to El Dorado County.
DNA proves innocence of man convicted of El Dorado County murder
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/13/2020 - 10:00pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A man who was facing life in prison after being convicted in 2005 for a murder that authorities now know he did not commit, is now heading home a free man. Ricky Leo Davis, now 54, was 20-years-old when a friend of his mother, 54-year-old Jane Hylton, was brutally murdered in their El Dorado Hills home in 1985.
On July 7, 1985, Davis and his 19-year-old live-in girlfriend, Connie Dahl, called law enforcement, saying they were at a party in Cameron Park and returned home to find Hylton murdered.

Oregon Ducks win back-to-back Pac-8 Hockey Championships in South Lake Tahoe

The final game put the #1 and #2 seeds from the north, the University of Oregon and Boise State, together to fight it out for the trophy.
For the second consecutive year, and for the fifth time, the Oregon Ducks will be taking home the championship title back to Eugene. They blanked the Boise State Broncos 3-0.

Fours years after man killed in South Lake Tahoe over pot deal, one trial begins
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/07/2020 - 12:45amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a snowy night on January 30, 2016, when Dennis Wright, Jr. brought at least 100 pounds of pot to the Beverly Lodge on Lake Tahoe Boulevard to sell to an interested party. Wright, who was better known as Spike, never made it back to his home in River Pines, Amador County that night. Instead, he was shot and killed at about 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the motel.

On Campus
Thursday afternoon, seniors were released early from classes to experience the inaugural Scholarship Fair, an event held by the STHS counselors. Organizations like South Tahoe High School Alumni Association, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Sierra, and El Dorado Community Foundation attended to educate the seniors on how they can earn scholarship money.

If they want to be concerned about anything being spread, they say, the flu is what they really need to be focusing on.
During this 2019-20 flu season, 10,000 people have died in the United States and there have been 19 million cases and 180,000 hospitalizations, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Fire hits South Lake Tahoe home twice in one night
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/02/2020 - 11:34amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A home on Idaho Avenue in South Lake Tahoe had two fires overnight, resulting in damage to both the house and garage.
At 5:52 p.m. February 1, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) was called out to the home after what appears to be ashes placed in the garage caught on fire. The fire was knocked down and after being cleaned up, the fire crew left.

John Robert Garcia, 45, was arrested in April 2019 after a five-month-long investigation by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and El Dorado County District Attorney's Office.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested on drug charges; Bail set at $1.5M
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/22/2020 - 6:58pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Stuart Robert Miller, 32, was arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) on Saturday, January 11, 2020, after a traffic stop lead to the discovery of a large amount of cocaine (2.25 pounds), a large amount of cash, methamphetamine, and heroin in the vehicle.
The Western El Dorado County Narcotics Enforcement Team (WENET) obtained a search warrant of his home on Glorene Street in South Lake Tahoe. Inside, deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine (approx. 100 grams) and a loaded firearm.

During the Angora Fire in 2007 some of them sacrificed their own homes to save ours, and more recently they provided vital help and support at the Camp Fire and prevented the oil tanker fire from spreading further than Hwy 50. Our community is safer because of LVFPD firefighters, but these firefighters are not safe in their jobs.

New agreement in the works for 56-acre South Lake Tahoe downtown project

A formal agreement between the two is expected later in 2020 with another one-two years of public meetings, consultant review, and planning before plans are implemented. The California Tahoe Conservancy is funding the cost of the consultant, just as they did 30 years ago.
El Dorado County man pleads guilty to distributing designer drug that caused minor's death

According to court documents, during September 2012, Elijah Richter, 28, of Camino, Calif. imported hallucinogenic drugs, including a controlled substance known as 25I-NBOMe, from Europe to his residence in El Dorado County. He placed orders on his computer through Silk Road, a now-defunct “dark” website.

Missing El Dorado County 11-year-old boy found deceased
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/12/2020 - 3:51pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Placerville Police Department held a press conference at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, announcing they had found the body of an 11-year-old they had been searching for.
On Saturday, police were notified that the almost 12-year-old Roman Anthony Lopez was missing from his Placerville home on Coloma St. After an extensive search of the area, involving multiple agencies, Roman was found deceased on January 12.
LTCC expands child care to evening hours to help student parents

A recent move by the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is helping remove that barrier by having extended hours on Monday and Tuesday evenings so parents who are LTCC students can attend classes and/or study.

Any diesel, 89 or 91 octane gasoline purchased at the Safeway on Lake Tahoe Boulevard between 8:00 p.m. on December 30 and 11:00 a.m. on January 2 may be contaminated according to the Safeway corporate offices.

I live in the county near Sierra House School. I purchased this home to live in a quiet and peaceful alpine environment. Now, my home is 1.18 miles or 6,225 feet from a large and loud musical venue that violates noise regulations, creates pollution, and drains governmental resources in my community. All the while, I am paying tax dollars for services not rendered. It is very disappointing, to say the least!

Washoe County Sheriff Balaam expressed his deep appreciation to all the deputies and investigators from multiple agencies who have tenaciously worked for the safety of the community during the past 12 hours. He was arrested in the Memorial Point area just north of Sand Harbor near Incline Village. Details of the arrest are coming.

The sustainable message behind SnowGlobe Music Festival

To help them in these efforts, Waste Free Earth is on board to create an environment of sustainability through strict guidelines for vendors and sponsors, recycling waste bins throughout the event, and daily trash pickup and sorting.

Meyers man severely beaten in Christmas Eve attack
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/27/2019 - 11:31amMEYERS, Calif. - A Christmas Valley man was attacked in his driveway by an unknown person late Christmas Eve as he sat in his car.
At 11:00 p.m., deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded to the home in the area of Saint Nick Way. They found the victim with serious injuries and he was transported to Barton Hospital, and later transferred to Renown Medical Center in Reno via medical helicopter.
EDSO reports the suspect has been described as a white adult man, 6 feet tall weighing about 200 pounds, with grey hair and a grey beard.
