SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Nine weeks into the COVID-19 crisis, Bread & Broth is still providing food to those in the community who are being impacted by the loss or reduction of income due to the temporary closing of many of our communities’ businesses. Thanks to many generous monetary donors and volunteers, Bread & Broth is providing bags of food through their Monday and Friday food bag giveaway program at Grace Hall and B&B 4 Kids program.

For over 30 years, Bread & Broth has been providing meals at St. Theresa Church’s Grace Hall to all who come to our door. Over the years, the number of meals served weekly has changed, but currently, Bread & Broth (B&B) serves two meals, Monday Meal and Second Serving on Fridays, every week of the year. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, B&B relies on the generosity of time and monetary support from our local community to provide the wonderful and nutritious meals that are enjoyed by our dinner guests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As local residents and St. Theresa Church parishioners, Kevin and Jean Bauwens wanted to help those in need and decided that sponsoring a Bread & Broth (B&B) Adopt A Day of Nourishment would provide them with the opportunity to help feed those experiencing hunger in our community. So, on February 2, Kevin and Jean, along with their daughter, Carrie Bauwens, and granddaughter, Isabel Telles, hosted the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall.

Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program provides community members the opportunity to partner with us in our efforts to serve a hot, nutritious meal to the less fortunate of our community. Providing a basic need is a way to not only ease hunger but also uplifts the lives and well-being of those who are struggling. Wanting to take advantage of this opportunity to help others, the Tahoe Wellness Center partnered with Bread & Broth (B&B) and hosted the Monday Meal as the Adopt A Day sponsor on January 20.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - So many of Tahoe community members, organizations and businesses are helping Bread & Broth ease hunger in our community by sponsoring a B&B Adopt A Day of Nourishment. Kirkwood Mountain Resort, through the Vail EpicPromise grant program, is a frequent sponsor group that hosts six AAD sponsorships annually. To start off the new year, Kirkwood held its first Monday Meal sponsorship dinner on January 6.

On December 23, Andy and Ellen Dauscher, and their daughters Ali and Carleigh, shared the blessings of the holiday season with the dinner guests attending Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner. Thanks to their Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship, the Dauscher Family funded B&B’s meal, and as a family, volunteered at the dinner to spread the holiday spirit and share the blessing of a holiday meal.

“What a wonderful way to start Christmas week,” shared Ellen. “We love helping our community members who are hungry. Thank you, Bread & Broth for letting us join you.”

For Larry and Kerstin Sidney, wanting to help others was their motivation for sponsoring their first Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) on October 28 at St. Theresa Grace Hall. With their $300 AAD donation, the Sidney family enabled B&B to feed 100 dinner guests a filling, nutritious and tasty dinner in a warm, safe and friendly environment. Bread and Broth's (B&B) Monday Meal communal dinner is open to everyone in the Tahoe community to be enjoyed as a way to ease hunger, save money for other necessities besides food, and enrich their social interactions with others.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth is always thrilled to have a new Adopt-A-Day (AAD) of Nourishment sponsor join us at our Monday Meal and experience the reward of helping others. Hosting their first AAD, Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty helped feed the dinner guests who joined us on Monday, September 30 to share a communal, hot and nutritious dinner.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth is putting the "fun" back into fundraising and bringing back their unique Burlap & Denim BBQ and Ranch Tour on Saturday, August 24 from noon to 4:00 p.m.

“Tahoe Douglas Rotary has served our community for over 50 years,” stated Susan Glasson while volunteering at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on April 15, 2019. “Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self’ and it is our distinct pleasure to join with Bread & Broth in providing delicious meals and food to all who show up.” For the last several years, the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club has been sponsoring six Adopt A Day of Nourishments annually.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Jackson Browne returns to the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series at Harveys Outdoor Arena on Saturday, August 10 at 8:00 p.m.

The legendary singer/songwriter last performed at the popular Tahoe venue in 2015 and is the seventh act to book at the popular outdoor arena this summer.

Bread & Broth’s January 14th Monday Meal dinner was hosted by the Tahoe Douglas Elk Lodge #2670. “The Elk’s Club is once again happy to be able to help out with this worthwhile project,” commented Elk Lodge member J.J. Clause. “It is so wonderful to be able to serve those in our community who are less fortunate. From a 45-year resident, kudos for being an integral part of our community.”

“The opportunity to give back to the community is a gift,” shared Mary Griffin as she volunteered at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on December 17th. Mary along with Lori Hargan, Sierra Williams, and Kelley and Larry Pedigo were all sponsor crew members for Camp Richardson Resort’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship and the evening meal they hosted. “Thank you for giving the staff of Camp Richardson that gift,” Mary added.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During their annual community grant EpicPromise celebration, 93 local nonprofits were awarded a total of $1.9 million in cash as well as additional in-kind product support. Across the company, Vail Resorts will give $11.4 million in support to more than 250 community non-profits over the upcoming year.

Each year Vail gives away money and product to groups serving the communities they have resorts located. For Kirkwood, Heavenly and Northstar, support was given to support the health and resilience of the Truckee and South Lake Tahoe communities.

The Corporate Offices of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. hosts a National Day of Service with the goal of ending hunger during the month of November and encourages all of the branch offices to participate in a day of service within their communities. For the past six years, Richard Gross, Private Wealth Advisor and owner of the South Lake Tahoe community’s Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. office, has hosted a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment in order to serve the local community members a hot, nutritious meal.

Bread & Broth volunteers always enjoy the Monday Meals sponsored by the Harrah’s/ Harveys’ HEROs. This employee based organization sponsors two Adopt A Day of Nourishment dinners annually and always sends a superb team of HEROs crew members to help volunteer at their sponsorship dinner held at St. Theresa Grace Hall. On October 29, the HEROs were represented by Jeff Colameco, Patrick Frega and Darlene Winkelman, who are seasoned AAD sponsor crew members, and Jenny Haas and Veronica Vilaseca, who enjoyed their first time serving at a B&B dinner.

Bread & Broth can always count on Kirkwood Mountain Resort to send an outstanding crew to work alongside of the B&B volunteers to provide a wonderful dinner for all of guests who come to St. Theresa Grace Hall for a Monday Meal dinner. At Kirkwood’s September 17th ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment’, the Kirkwood volunteer sponsor crew consisted of Katie Ficeto, Rick Hofheings, Jacob Klade, Jarrett Morgan, Christian Neville and Mike Scalzo. “We enjoyed our time volunteering and helping out our community,’ said Katie after working on the serving line.

Bread & Broth was very fortunate to have the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club partner with us to help ease hunger at the September 3rd Monday Meal. The Rotary Club is dedicated to helping others and its members are involved in many community projects that improve the quality life for the disadvantaged. The club encourages its members to work side by side with the community in local serve projects and has signed up to host four additional Adopt A Days of Nourishment sponsorships over the next nine months.

Bread & Broth serves two meals weekly and welcomes everyone from the Lake Tahoe Shore community to enjoy the wonderful dinners prepared by their talented and creative volunteer cooks and warmly served by our dinner crew volunteers. Our meals are not only meant to ease hunger, but to provide the opportunity to spend a meal in fellowship with other community members. Being hungry is not a prerequisite to enjoy the non-profit group's meals.

Hosting their first Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino sponsored B&B’s Monday Meal on June 25th. It was really great having the newest hotel and casino on Tahoe’s south shore hosting a community dinner for the needy in the community. Hard Rock’s partnering with B&B demonstrates their commitment to being involved with the community and being a part of the solution to improving the quality of life for our community’s at risk population.

“Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is committed to serving our community and it was an honor to be able to be a part of Bread & Broth,” commented Michelle Sower, Dean of Instruction at the college in South Lake Tahoe. Michelle was a sponsor crew member from LTCC at the ADVANCE Adult Education Adopt A Day dinner on May 21. LTCC’s new ADVANCE program is geared to provide free training for adults, who are interested in improving their job skills and looking to advance in their careers, and is just an extension of the many ways the college is providing support to our local community members.

Young thespians at South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) have been working since March on Giants in the Sky, a musical and magical story about the world of giants who live in the clouds.

Tahoe Arts Project is presenting the play which is performed by ACT One, a new program for STMS South Tahoe Middle School students that helps fill a void for their hunger for creative expression, given the absence of drama and other arts programming available to students at a critical developmental age.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over the last nine months, the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club has sponsored five Adopt-A-Day of Nourishments. Bread & Broth has been thrilled to have this service oriented organization partner with us to help ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. With their generously donated funds and over 70 hours of volunteering, the Rotarians served over 450 nutritious, filling meals to grateful diners who come to Grace Hall for a free dinner and a chance to spent time with friends and acquaintances.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Lights. Camera. Action! Tahoe Arts Project is launching a new after-school theater club at South Tahoe Middle School on March 12 to give all students access to the performing arts.

ACT ONE is meant to help fill a void for middle school-aged student’s hunger for creative expression, given the absence of drama and other arts programming available to students at a critical developmental age.
