Douglas county manager resigns just days after accepting position

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Just one week ago the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners made the announcement that Tom Stone accepted their offer of employment, making him the new county manager.

On January 16, 2019, Stone submitted his resignation.

“Effective immediately I am resigning from my position as Douglas County Manager. I want to thank the Board for giving me this opportunity to serve,” stated Stone.

Having to search for a new county manager isn't something new for Douglas County.

Genoa town manager hired as new Douglas County public works director

Philip Ritger has been selected as the Public Works Director effective October 8, 2018. Philip has served as the Genoa Town Manager for the past five years and brings a wealth of management and leadership experience to Douglas County.

As the Genoa Town Manager, Philip was responsible for the financial health of the town. He managed all public works, facility maintenance, professional contracts and related activities necessary to provide the residents with a high level of service in a fiscally responsible manner.

Interim county manager named for Douglas County

Jenifer Davidson was appointed as the interim county manager during the Douglas County's Board of County Commissioner meeting August 16, a job she will start on August 31.

Currently Davidson is the assistant county manager, a job she has held since March of this year.

County Manager Larry Werner asked in June to be released from his contract as of August 31.

Douglas County selects new Chief Financial Officer

Douglas County has selected Terri Willoughby as their new Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller.

Terri has worked in the public sector for over twenty years, working for the County of Riverside, and various cities and municipal utilities in capacities ranging from Assistant Controller to Finance Director.

Douglas County Manager Larry Werner asks to be released from contract

Douglas County Manager Larry Werner has requested to be released from his contract giving a 60 day notice effective August 31, 2018.

“The time I have spent working for Douglas County has been challenging but rewarding,” said Larry. “I know that it is time for me to pursue retirement and family, but I will miss working with the great people in this community in this capacity.”

Discussion of Larry’s resignation and a plan for the future of the position will be held at the July 5, 2018 Board of County Commissioners meeting and has been placed on the meeting agenda.

Douglas County hires new assistant county manager

Douglas County has announced the hiring of a new assistant county manager to replace Bradley Hurley who left in October, 2017 after holding the position for just four days.

Jenifer Davidson, a Douglas High graduate, has been hired at a salary of $114,920.

In January, 2018, the County accepted applications for the job. The salary range is $100,796 - $151,195 and requires one to be not only an effective leader, they must be team-oriented with effective interpersonal skills and highly motivated with seven years of public administration or business management experience.

Douglas County CFO calls it quits

Vicki Moore has resigned as Douglas County Chief Financial Officer, effective March 20, 2018. Mrs. Moore tendered her resignation to County Manager, Larry Werner.

“This was a difficult departure, and we wish her the best in her future career endeavors,” said Larry Werner.

Vicki Moore was promoted by Douglas County on April 24, 2017. The Chief Financial Officer oversees the Finance Department, which is responsible for the administration of financial affairs for the county.

Douglas County is currently working through the Fiscal Year Budget for 2018-2019.

New Assistant Douglas County Manager resigns

The new Douglas County Assistant County Manager Bradley Hurley has resigned his position effective October 31, 2017.

Hurley submitted his resignation to County Manager Larry Werner. “Probation periods are an opportunity for both the employee and the employer to determine if the relationship is a good fit," said Werner.

Douglas County businesses win Spotlight Awards

For the fourth consecutive year, several Douglas County businesses were awarded a Spotlight Award. This year’s awards were given at the Critical Issues Conference held on Thursday, September 28, 2017. The Spotlight Awards recognized businesses in 7 different categories: Retail, Restaurant, Manufacturing and Production, Sports and Recreation, Entrepreneur, Business and Professional Service, Tourism and Hospitality and special recognition was given to the Business Council for their 25 years of dedicated service to Douglas County.

Douglas County narrows search down to two for Asst. County Manager position

The search for a new Assistant County Manager for Douglas County is almost over as Bradley Hurley and Philip Ritger have been chosen as the final two candidates. The public is invited to meet the two on August 21 from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn.

Last Monday, panel interviews were conducted for eight applicants, and from that group Hurley and Ritger were chosen to be interviewed by County Manager Larry Werner.

Ritger is the current Town of Genoa Manager and Hurley the Deputy Communications Officer with the Department of Defense. Both are residents of Douglas County.

Douglas County declared disaster area after Preacher Fire scorches 4,651 acres

Douglas County Board of Commissioners signed a Disaster Declaration today due to the lightning caused Preacher Fire which is burning seven miles southeast of Gardnerville.

The fire is currently estimated at 4,651 acres as of 6:00 p.m. on July 25. It is being managed at this time by Sierra Front Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) with support from East Fork Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Douglas County narrows down group of applicants for Asst. County Manager job

Douglas County will soon have an Assistant County Manager. Over 100 people applied for this new position, and that initial pool of applicants has now been narrowed down to eight after phone interviews with Human Resources.

The next step are panel interviews for those finalists which are scheduled for August 7, 2017. The panel consists of elected ofneighboring counties.

New CFO now on the job for Douglas County

Vicki Moore has been selected for the permanent position of Chief Financial Officer of Douglas County after holding the position on an interim basis since the position became vacant in October, 2016.

“I look forward to continuing to build strong working relationships with the Department Heads, Elected Officials and other County Staff as we strive to develop and implement the strategic goals of the County,” said Moore.

Douglas County to hold public meetings to discuss stormwater issues

Douglas County is hosting a series of public outreach meetings to discuss stormwater issues specific to geographic areas in Douglas County and to explain how a stormwater management program and utility fee might work. A presentation will be given at each meeting and will include recommendations from the Citizen’s Flood Task Force, examples of how a stormwater management program could work, and staff will be collecting public input.

Larry Werner to stay on as Douglas County Manager

The interim Douglas County Manager, Larry Werner, just signed a contract to stay on board until December, 2017.

A contract for professional services with BHC Consultants, LLC for services provided by Werner was unanimously approved by the Douglas County Commission during their public meeting on August 4, 2016.

The contract will remain the same at a fixed cost of $14,333 per month with a $700 per month car allowance.

Larry Werner to be offered $172,008 to manage Douglas County for one year

In an effort to not leave the county without a leader, a contract for Larry Werner to be the Douglas County Manager for one year will be voted on by commissioners during their February 4, 2016 meeting.

His contract will be for $172,008 with a car allowance of $700 per month. The former Carson City Manager, and former interim Douglas County Manager will start on March 7. Werner last served the county in the position after the departure of Steve Mokrohisky in 2014.

Douglas County Commissioners make it final: Jim Nichols is no longer County Manager

Jim Nichols is officially not a Douglas County employee beginning January 29, 2016. The Board of County Commissioners approved a voluntary separation agreement Thursday between the county and Nichols, their County Manager.

Nichols and the County came to a mutual agreement that he would leave his position. During the on January 21, the Commissioners reiterated the fact that Nichols was not fired, nor did he quit. Nichols will be receiving a check for more than $115,000, the equivalent of six months pay plus sick pay and vacation pay.
