South Shore casinos have net loss of $89,263,931 in 2014
Submitted by paula on Sat, 01/10/2015 - 11:17pmThe Nevada Gaming Control Board released figures Friday that show the Douglas County casinos on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe had a net loss of over $89 million in Fiscal Year 2014. Their total gaming revenue was $184,671,937 which is down 6.1% from the previous year. Total revenue including hotel, food and beverage was $337,090,380, down 3.6%.
In Nevada there were 270 casinos which grossed more than $1 million in FY2014. Together they took in $23,075,800,492 and is a net loss of $743,688,008.
November casino gaming figures released: South Lake Tahoe casinos lose
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/30/2014 - 7:20amCasinos in South Lake Tahoe won $12,104,211 in November, which is down over 30% from last year when the gaming win was $17,381,413. This ends a three month run of gains in this figure.
The casino gaming win reflects represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.
Statewide, the figures were almost equal to last year with a gaming win of $876,278,690,a .04% gain over November of 2014.
Casinos in North Las Vegas led the state with a 37.62% gain while South Lake Tahoe's gambling venues had the biggest loss.

Debate is mounting over the need to begin development of a comprehensive water plan taking into account available water supplies, drought, climate projections and development that will tap limited water resources across the nation's most arid state.
South Shore high schools do well in NIAA State Cross Country Races

Their counterpart across the state line, Division III Whittell High School, is also bringing home fifth place honors from the tournament.
South Tahoe's highest finisher was Dillon Lemons who finished 18th. He was followed by Orion Maxwell (21st), Paul Mutz (25th), Mario Mangiaracina (33rd), George Freeman (42nd), Paul Hoefer (45th) and Chase Stalter (52nd). Their top five finishers ended up with a total time of 1:31:27.1.
Forest Service acquires Tahoe Mountain Parcels

These two lots are 3.13 acres each and located on Tahoe Mountain. They purchased one with great lake views for $135,000 and a second one for $100,000. This second lot is adjacent to the new hiking and mountain biking trail that begins on Deveron Way.
Douglas County names Jim Nichols as new County Manager

Jim Nichols has accepted the position of Douglas County Manager at a pay rate of $172,000. He is expected to begin September 29, 2014.

Nevada casino win up 14% in June; South Shore casinos down
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/25/2014 - 6:17amCasinos on the south shore of Lake Tahoe won $12,230,394 in June, down from the previous June by 2.33%. With the end of the fiscal year, this brings the total win for the region to $204,443,211 which is down 3.34% from the previous year.
Overall, the state of Nevada did well with a gain for June of 14.36%.
The gaming win represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.
Las Vegas and North Las Vegas were the big winners for the month with a gain of over 22% while North Lake Tahoe saw the biggest loss of 15.39%.

The job of Douglas County Manager has been vacant since the departure of Steve Mokrohisky in April. He took the job of County Administrator in Lane County, Oregon.
His replacement has been narrowed down to seven candidates and the public has the chance to meet all of them during a reception on Monday, August 4 at the Carson Valley Inn Ballroom from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Gaming Figures for April Just Released: South Shore Casinos Have Huge Loss

The Nevada Gaming Control released their monthly report this week, showing that the state's win overall was down just .27% for a total of $852,005,476.
The local casinos had to biggest loss for the state of Nevada while Wendover and Downtown Las Vegas casinos had the biggest gains.
South Lake Tahoe casinos have had losses for 6 of the last 7 months, with March being the only month with a gain over the previous year's figures.

The Vikings lost their opening game on Thursday to #1 seed in the tournament, Faith Lutheran of Las Vegas, by a score of 17-6. They bounced back for game 2 on Friday morning. They beat Chaparall High School of Las Vegas, 13-8.

South Shore Gaming Profits Drop for 5th Straight Month

The State Gaming Control Board reported today that the gross gaming win in Nevada for February was $926,083,897. The statewide gaming win, computed before business expenses and taxes, is down 13.71% from February of 2013.
The biggest loss was experienced by the casinos in North Lake Tahoe where revenues dropped 22.18% and on the Las Vegas Strip where they saw a drop of 20.17%.
South Shore's Horizon Casino Resort to Close April 1

The resort was the one time local showcase of Elvis Presley and Liberace when the casino operated as Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe. In 1990 Del Webb sold the property to Kentucky based Columbia Sussex Corporation for $19 million.
Columbia Sussex owners, the Yung family, are the current operators under the corporate name, LV Casino LLC. Their lease ran out and long time Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley ranchers, the Park family, will take control after March 31.
South Lake Tahoe Man Admits Fraudulent Golf Course Scheme
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/13/2014 - 5:00pmRENO, Nev. (AP) — A Lake Tahoe-area man accused of bilking 11 investors out of $3.6 million in a fraudulent scheme to buy a Douglas County golf course has pleaded guilty to 24 federal charges, including wire fraud and money laundering.
U.S. Attorney Dan Bogden says 55-year-old Scott Summerhays of South Lake Tahoe, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Reno.
From 2008-10, prosecutors say Summerhays told potential investors he was purchasing Genoa Lakes Golf Club near Gardnerville for $17 million.
Stateline Casinos Loose Big in December

The Stateline casinos took in $15,781,736 in gaming-related profits or "win" compared to December 2012.
The state saw an over all gain in profit of 9.61%.
Stateline casinos saw the largest drop in win, and North Las Vegas had the biggest gain, 24.38%
South Shore Gaming Win Dips Almost 2 Percent in November

The State Gaming Control Board reported today that the gross gaming win for November, 2013 was $875,968,501. The statewide gaming win, computed before business expenses and taxes, is up 11.91% from November of 2012.
Casinos along the Las Vegas Strip and in Washoe County were among the top winners while casinos in North Lake Tahoe, North Las Vegas and Laughlin experienced the biggest drop in gaming win. Casinos on the Strip account for more than half of the gaming win statewide.

Stateline casinos lead Nevada in July gaming profits

Casinos in Stateline took in $32,371,760 in gaming-related profits or "win" compared to July 2012, a 9.23 percent increase.
Las Vegas strip casinos saw the biggest decrease in gaming profits for the month, seeing a 14.40 decline from July 2012.

U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. sentenced Jed Baron, 55, of Las Vegas, on Friday, May 10 to prison for wire fraud related to the investment scheme, according to a news release.

At a Feb. 28 meeting of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ association, the groups unanimously agreed to end the recognition of concealed weapon permits. According to a news release, the action was taken in accordance with Nevada Revised Statue 202.3689.
