Snowy and icy conditions are to blame for Saturday morning's accident involving two cars near Hidden Woods Drive in Lake Tahoe. The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) released the names of the occupants of both cars, all of whom were sent to area hospitls.

Six people were injured in a weather related head-on crash Saturday morning on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said. One woman remains in serious condition.

The accident was reported at 8:48 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry, occupied by five people, three males and two females, and a Volvo, driven by a Carson City resident.

According to NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez, the Camry was going eastbound on Highway 50 and crossed over into the westbound lane, striking the Volvo head-on, said Lopez.

Pound of meth seized, three arrested in bust that focused on Dayton, Moundhouse

Three have been arrested after a monthlong investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Dayton and Moundhouse areas, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday night.

The investigation, which ended Jan. 21, led to the seizure of a pound of methamphetamine, eight firearms, and $4,500 in cash and involved two search warrants in the Dayton and Moundhouse area. Each of the three suspects are being held on $1 million bail.

Glenbrook crash claims life of Carson City man

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to an early morning accident on Wednesday just south of Glenbrook on Lake Tahoe's Highway 50.

According to the investigation, a maroon 2001 Jeep Wrangler driven by single occupant, 27-year old Joseph David Winters formerly of South Lake Tahoe, was traveling eastbound on US 50 in the right travel lane as he approached mile marker 3 in Douglas County.

Lake Tahoe woman injured in Cave Rock accident

A 33-year old Zephyr Cove woman was injured in a Wednesday morning accident near Cave Rock.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Jocelyn Hernandez Mata was driving a Chrysler Sebring convertible eastbound on Hwy 50 through the tunnel at a speed too fast for conditions. She lost control on the wet and icy road, went off the roadway edge and struck a rock embankment. Mata's car then overturned and came to rest on its right side.

She was transported to the Renown by a Tahoe Douglas Fire ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m.

NHP update on Incline Village New Year's Day fatal crash

Hug Soto-Barrios has been identified as the victim in the New Year's Day fatal accident on the Mt. Rose Hwy in Incline Village, NV. The 40-year old was a passenger in a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo driven by 34-year old Manuel Mejia-Verduzco.

Traffic deaths in Nevada rose in 2014

Preliminary data released today by the Nevada Departments of Public Safety and Transportation show that there were 284 traffic fatalities in the state in 2014, up by 18 deaths from the prior year.

Even though the crash fatalities are far below the state's high in 2006 of 432, the previous downward trend has been reversed the past few years.

Arrest made in deadly Incline Village accident

A New Year's Day head-on collision on Mt. Rose Highway left one person dead, two sent to Renown Hospital by helicopter with major injuries and one taken by ambulance with serious injuries. The accident happened when a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo crossed over the center line and struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty. All three occupants of the Liberty were taken to the Reno hospital.

The driver of the Isuzu left the scene on foot after the accident which occurred just after 6 p.m. Witnesses said he was bleeding and looked injured.

Mild New Year's Eve for South Lake Tahoe/Douglas County Law Enforcement

Between South Lake Tahoe and Stateline, New Year's Eve celebrations were fairly mild and had nothing out of the norm occurred.

Perhaps it was the cold temperatures or several activities spread out, but crowds on the street weren't as massive as known in the past.

Seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide in 2011 yet many people still aren't heeding the warnings and buckling up. The Nevada Highway Patrol has launched a multi-county "Click it or Ticket" campaign to educate drivers on the importance of using seat belts.

State Route 28 in Lake Tahoe to receive $12.5 million in improvements

State Route 28 on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe from Incline Village to the intersection with Highway 50 is set to receive $12.5 million in improvements.

The Washoe County Commissioners approved a Federal Lands Access Program Memorandum of Agreement for federal funding for the design and construction of the improvements.

Single car accident at Stateline claims the life of an Oregon man

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the names of the people involved in a single car accident in Stateline on Friday morning.

NHP Troopers responded to the 8 a.m. rollover accident near Kahle Drive. Crash investigations show that 71-year-old Larry Dean Wells was driving a blue Hyundai eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 when the car left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over.

Wild horse and motorcyclist both die after Silver Springs collision

An unidentified man was killed Wednesday night after his Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a wild horse on US 50 in Silver Springs, NV. The horse had to be put down after the accident.

At approximately 8:25 p.m., the motorcyclist was traveling westbound when he hit the horse, causing him to be ejected from his bike and thrown into the eastbound travel lane. The drivers of three passenger vehicles traveling eastbound did not see the accident or the man in the roadway and were unable to avoid running over him.

Reno's Street Vibrations see large crowds and fewer accidents

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting a significant increase in highway traffic over the 4-day Street Vibrations event held this past weekend. While there were more bikes on the road, NHP reports only one injury accident that involved a motorcycle and two DUI arrests for motorcyclists, one in Carson City and Lyon County.

The NHP says there were expecting an increase in accidents along the highways around Reno and Lake Tahoe with an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 Street Vibration participants in town.

NHP prepares for bikers in the area for Street Vibrations

The 20th Annual Street Vibrations motorcycle rally is scheduled for September 24-28. The primary events will be located in Reno and Sparks but other events are scheduled in Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe. Organizers are expecting between 50,000 and 100,000 participants and with the influx of visitors to the area, the number of traffic related issues are expected to increase.

Carson City car accident claims life of 82 year old woman

Leatrice Drew of Dayton was killed Saturday when the car she was riding in drove off the roadway near E. Nye Lane. Her husband, 83 year old Daniel Drew, was driving the car westbound on US50 when it, for an unknown reason, the car went off the roadway and onto the dirt shoulder. He lost control and the car rolled.

The Drew vehicle landed back on its wheels in the ditch at the intersection of US50 and E. Nye Lane. It is unclear if Mr. and Mrs. Drew where wearing their seatbelts properly before the accident.

NHP still searching for driver involved in hit and run

The Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver of a silver 4-door Cadillac who was involved in a hit and run on August 7 in Sun Valley near Reno.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. the Cadillac rear ended a white Subaru on SR443 (Sun Valley Blvd) southbound just north of Second Street. After the collision the white Subaru pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The driver of the silver Cadillac continued South on SR 443 (Sun Valley Blvd) without stopping.

Hit and Run in Carson City leads to high speed chase; Driver arrested in California

A 53 year old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of suspected DUI and eluding officers after she led Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on a high speed chase into California.

Melanie Marnne-Lawson is suspected of rear ending a car in Carson City near the intersection of US 395 and Eastlake, then taking off towards Reno where the NHP spotted her. As they attempted to pull her over in South Reno, Marnne-Lawson failed to pull over for officers and took off reaching speeds in excess of 85 miles per hour along US 395.

Bear and vehicle collision near Skyland on Highway 50 in Lake Tahoe

7/16/14 update: The accident occurred when 18 year old Alex Sanchez of Zephyr Cove swerved to miss a bear killed by a previous driver. Law enforcement was headed to the original accident when Sanchez came upon the bear in the road, served to miss it and flipped his 2000 Toyota. The car was totaled and Sanchez is recovering from bruises suffered from the tightening of his seat belt. The driver, from Sun Valley, NV, who hit the bear was driving a Ford Explorer and had his family in the car. Nobody sought medical attention after the accident.

DUI Checkpoints in South Lake Tahoe on Friday and Saturday

The California Highway Patrol, Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office will be joining forces over the holiday weekend in South Lake Tahoe by conducting sobriety, car safety and driver's license checkpoints on both sides of the state line.

The California Highway Patrol will have their checkpoint in Meyers on Saturday, July 5 on U.S. Highway 50 between Pioneer Trail and State Route 89. It will be staffed by officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers.

Nevada Highway Patrol to Take Part in "Tip a Cop" Day at Lake Tahoe's Hard Rock Cafe

Several Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety, will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Hard Rock Café in Stateline between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and between 5 p.m and 9 p.m.

The NHP and DPS will be assisting the wait staff as they serve patrons in order to earn "special tips."

Sand Harbor Shuttle Service in Place for Summer

There is a park and ride system for Sand Harbor in place once again for the summer of 2014.

In it's third year, the Tahoe Transportation District’s East Shore Express, the shuttle bus provides rides Incline Village to Sand Harbor. They are able to do so with a federal grant and funds gathered from the selling of Lake Tahoe License Plates.

North Lake Tahoe Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Pursuit in Carson City

An armed man walked into the Kings Beach branch of the Plumas Bank Friday morning, demanding money of two clerks. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect, identified as 55 year old Brent Muir of Carson City, was sighted near Sand Harbor by FBI agents responding to the robbery from South Lake Tahoe.

Seat Belts Save Lives: Deaths on the Rise For Unbelted Vehicle Occupants

Fatalities are up nationwide for unbelted vehicle occupants – the first time in five years according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In 2012, 10,335 unbelted vehicle occupants lost their lives. In Nevada, 41 unbelted vehicle occupants died last year.

Man Dies After Car Plummets 80 Feet in Zephyr Heights

5/5/14 Update: The Douglas County Sheriff's Department has released the name of the man killed in Friday's accident. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 55 year old Jeffrey Alan Davis of Zephyr Cove, NV. The cause of death has been listed as blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle incident. The incident is still under investigation as to what caused the vehicle to travel through the back of the garage.

A Zephyr Heights man died Friday when the car he was parking plunged down an 80 foot hill.

Two injuried in Kingsbury Grade Accident

A two car accident on Kingsbury Grade Thursday afternoon resulted both drivers being transported to Renown Medical Center by helicopter.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the head-on collision which occurred about halfway down on the valley side of the State Route 207/Kingsbury Grade.

The crash happened about 12:45 p.m.and the road was closed for about two hours.

Highway 50 Car Accident Claims Life of Dayton Teenager

4:55 pm update - It has just been reported by the Washoe County Coroner's Office that a second victim in the accident has died. Munoz passed away Wednesday afternoon.

An accident on Tuesday between a car and a big rig on Highway 50 near Dayton, NV has claimed the life of 18 year old David Arroyo Lamas.

NHP Keeping an Eye on Bicyclists and Motorists on the Road

The Nevada Highway Patrol recently stepped up enforcement of Nevada's Share the Road laws, pulling over 200 motorists who violated the law and issued them warnings.

Now its turn for the NHP to turn the tables and watch for bicyclists not in compliance.

South Lake Tahoe Woman Involved in Motorcycle Crash Dies of Her Injuries

A 21 year old South Lake Tahoe woman involved in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night in Carson City has succumbed to her injuries according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Audrey G. Rugamas was taken off life support on Wednesday, March 26. Ms. Rugamas had received severe injuries in the accident which also injured the motorcycle's driver, 20 year old Andrey L. Gallegos of Sparks, NV. An update on his condition has not been released.

Victims Identified in Saturday's Motorcycle Crash; One From South Lake Tahoe

One South Lake Tahoe woman was careflighted to Renown Medical Center in Reno on Saturday night after the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with a truck in Carson City.

The Nevada Highway Patrol(NHP) was called to the scene of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Roop and Fairview Streets at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.

Share The Road Campaign Started in Northern Nevada

In an effort to keep bicyclists safer on Nevada roads, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has joined forces with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) in a SHARE THE ROAD campaign. They will be stepping up enforcement to ensure that motor vehicles are sharing the roads with the bicyclists and reducing the accidents between the two.

NHP: South Lake Tahoe Woman Critically Injured in Carson City Motorcycle Crash

Two people remain critically injured after a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The names of the victims have not been released but the passenger of the unregistered green 2007 Suzuki motorcycle is a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman and the driver, 20, is from Nebraska, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. They were flown separately to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Cattle Truck and 2 Vehicles Collide; Hwy 88 and Mottsville Lane Closed

10:20 pm update: The Nevada Highway Patrol has reported that 26 of the 66 cows on board the truck were killed in the accident. An initial investigation has determined that the driver of the cattle truck is at fault and failed to yield at a traffic light when the truck collided with a Subaru driving through the intersection, NHP Sgt. Gabor Visnovits said. The cattle truck driver was transported to Renown where it is reported that he had injuries to his upper extremities. No other injuries were reported. The road was expected to be opened by 9 p.m. Tuesday.

24 Arrested During Stateline New Year's Celebration

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department reports that the New Year's Eve party in the Stateline area went as expected, resulting in 24 arrests. The charges included assault, affray, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, minor consuming alcohol and civil protective custody. During the downtown party last year there were 14 arrests.

Charges of Vehicular Manslaughter Filed Against Douglas County District Court Judge

Vehicular manslaughter charges were filed today by the Douglas County DA Mark Jackson against Judge Michael Gibbons. On August 20, 2013, cyclist Joseph Longo was killed in an accident near Pinenut and East Valley Roads in the Carson Valley. Charges state that Gibbons failed to exercise due care when overtaking or passing Longo who was traveling in the same direction. Gibbons is accused of failing to pass at a safe distance and not using due care to avoid a collision.

Kingsbury Grade Crash Sends 4 to Hospital

11-4-13 update 12 pm: The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information on Friday's 2 car accident on Kingsbury Grade. The occupants of the Yaris were the driver Dora Aranda, 27 of Azusa, CA, Christopher Ashlock, 23 of San Diego, CA and Melissa Dominguez, 28 of Rialto, CA. Zephyr Cove resident Donna Janaczek, 59, was the driver of the Subaru which was hit by Aranda as she apparently tried to over correct her car's drifting over the right roadway edge, causing her to cross the center line.

CHP: Woman assaulted after traffic stop by man impersonating officer in Alpine County

5 PM UPDATE: Alpine County Undersheriff Rob Levy provides new information regarding an assault of a woman Sunday night near Hope Valley who was stopped by a vehicle occupied by a man impersonating a police officer.

Authorities are looking for a man, described as a white, stocky build, approximately 40 to 50 years of age, 6 feet, two inches in height, 225 pounds, with dark hair and a bushy mustache. The male may have sustained injuries.

NHP: Carson City man dies from injuries in Highway 50 hit and run at Stateline

A 31-year-old Carson City man hit by a vehicle that left the scene of the accident last month along Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe at Stateline has died from his injuries, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. Cody J. Dobson died on Friday, Aug. 23 from injuries in the early morning accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

On the morning of Aug. 10, NHP troopers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian who was struck just east of the casino corridor near Lake Parkway in Douglas County, said Allen.

A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition Monday after being struck by a vehicle that sped away in the Stateline area of Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 early Saturday morning, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Pedestrian critically injured in hit and run along Highway 50 in Stateline

A 31-year-old Carson City man was critically injured early Saturday morning at Lake Tahoe after being hit by a Dodge pickup that sped away on Highway 50 and Lake Parkway in Stateline, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

This hit and run was report 3:13 a.m. The 31-year-old Carson City man was walking on the road just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa when he was hit. It is possible the man may have been struck by more than one vehicle, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Douglas County authorities report few problems with Lake Tahoe July 4 revelers; 24 arrests countywide

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the 2013, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County and around Lake Tahoe went well.

The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.

NHP conducts holiday DUI checkpoint near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County

Several northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will be teaming up and “Joining Forces” this Independence Day as an additional security measure in providing for a safe holiday weekend.

On Thursday afternoon and evening, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, deputies from the Washoe and Lyon County Sheriff’s Offices, and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will be conducting the administrative road block on U.S. Highway 50 in Douglas County.

A head on crash on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning sent three to the hospital, one via Care Flight, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

NHP troopers continue to investigate why two vehicles collided on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove in Douglas County earlier today. The accident took place approximately a half-mile west of Zephyr Cove at around 6:50 am Wednesday morning.

Kingsbury Grade now open for traffic; cause of fire under investigation

UPDATE 8:02PM: State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade is now open to motorists with controls. Please use caution around firefighters and equipment that remain working the fire.

Fire personnel will remain on scene to gain further containment of this fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

UPDATE: 7:17PM: Around 200 firefighters remain on scene tonight on the Kings fire on the Carson Valley side of Kingsbury Grade near Lake Tahoe. The fire is approximately 4 to 5 acres in size, Douglas County authorities report. Containment is estimated by 8 p.m.

The Hard Rock Café, located inside Harveys Lake Tahoe at Stateline, Nev., is where all of the fun will be taking place during the lunch and dinner hours. Patrons will enjoy our employees serving as volunteer waiters and waitresses as they assist the restaurant staff that day while they work for “special tips.”
