Celebrity Golf fans will soon find out how the retired golfer who had to "dust the rust off her clubs" will play at Edgewood in her first American Century Golf Tournament this weekend.

Favored to win the tournament, Sorenstam reminded those at a press conference Thursday that she hasn't played much since retiring, and while she has played under the Stableford method that isn't how she won so many tournaments during her career.

The Annual Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Spirit of Spring Fundraiser was held on Tuesday, May 13 at Edgewood Tahoe from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
All proceeds from this evening of food and wine will benefit the local kids -- helping them be great!

Guests were treated to name vintages, cordials and beer for the evening courtesy of Southern Wine and Spirits and appetizers buffet courtesy of Edgewood Tahoe.

South Lake Blood Drive Celebrates 48 Years

This June, the South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive will celebrate its 48th year anniversary. The public is encouraged to donate blood and help save lives.

The community blood drive will take place on Monday, June 2 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, formerly the Embassy Suites, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the first floor conference rooms. BloodSource hosts the blood drive and Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary sponsors the event.

South Lake Tahoe Community Input Sought for Wildfire Protection Plan

Living in a forest gives great benefits, but it also carries with it the risk of forest fires.

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for South Lake Tahoe is being developed jointly by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and Lake Valley Fire Protection District.

The community is being asked to complete a survey which will help the agencies prepare the CWPP. This will enable the creation of a plan on how the south shore will reduce it's risk of wildfire by identifying strategic sites and methods for fuel reduction projects.

South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Wins California State Award

South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Susan Alessi received the 2014 Presidential Award of Excellence from the City Clerk’s Association of California. Ms. Alessi was presented with the Presidential Award at the annual conference which was held in Pasadena and attended by hundreds of City Clerks from around the state.

Wayfinding Workshop to focus on signage for Nevada side of the South Shore

Members of the public are invited to participate in a workshop on March 17th hosted by TahoeChamber. This workshop will focus on potentially missing or duplicative highway signs between Cave Rock and Stateline and up Kingsbury. The primary purpose of NDOT’s highway signs is to safely guide drivers to the next city or town. The chamber is interested in discussing additional destinations such recreation in light of the large number of visitors, including those who are from out of the area with many of those not speaking or reading English.

2014 Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Summit to Highlight Alternative Transportation

Pedestrian and bicycle transportation and safety will be among the topics at the 12th annual Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Summit, scheduled for March 11 and 12 at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno.

Developed to augment statewide bicycle and pedestrian resources, the summit will provide the latest information on bicycle tourism, facility planning and design, safety, enforcement and education initiatives, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, as well as Safe Routes to School program information.

Kingsbury Grade Closing to Through Traffic in May, September and October

A year and a half road construction project will result in the closure of Kingsbury Grade for almost 75 days this year and more in 2015. Since this will have an impact on local businesses, residents and commuters, a forum was held on Wednesday in order to inform the community about the impact.

A full house was on hand in the TahoeChamber conference room to listen to representatives from Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) and the road construction company.

LTCC Announcing 40th Anniversary Plans at March Press Conference

The Lake Tahoe Community College District was voted into existence 40 years ago, on March 5, 1974. The College has big plans to celebrate its anniversary with a number of fun and educational events this year. The South Tahoe Vikings varsity basketball team won Saturday's conference game against Churchill County by a score of 71-67. As has been the case this season, South Tahoe came charging out with strong play on both sides of the court. The 3rd quarter box score had Churchill outscoring South Tahoe 12-8 but the Vikings rebounded with a 19-15 4th quarter.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) was recognized by the American Planning Association (APA) this week at the annual Western Planner Conference in Stateline, NV, with three awards for outstanding planning, TRPA announced today.

League to Save Lake Tahoe Employee Wins Planning Award

The Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association has recognized League to Save Lake Tahoe Policy Analyst Shannon Eckmeyer, Esq., with a Citizen Planner Award for her work on Tahoe’s regional plan update and area plans. The award was announced at the chapter’s conference at Lake Tahoe this week.

The award goes to individuals who are not professional planners but who have advanced or promoted the cause of planning in the public arena.

Deadly Shooting at Sparks Middle School

11:00 am update: Sparks Police confirm that a Sparks Middle School staff member and the student gunman are the two dead from this morning's schoolyard shooting and that two minors are in critical condition at Renown Medical Center. The school will be closed for the remainder of the week. More details will be released as the investigation continues.

Four were shot this morning at Sparks Middle School, resulting in 2 deaths and 2 being treated at Renown Medical Center. Many details are not being confirmed at this time.

Tahoe Hockey Partners, LLC Brings WSHL Junior Hockey Team to South Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Hockey Partners, LLC announced today that newly formed Lake Tahoe Blue will play their inaugural Junior A hockey season at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena as part of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). League preseason games start September 20 and the regular season starts October 4.

Season and single game tickets will be available at the Ice Arena and online at www.tahoehockey.net on a date to be announced.

Intercollegiate soccer launched at Lake Tahoe Community College

It’s official: men’s and women’s intercollegiate soccer is coming to Lake Tahoe Community College.

The LTCC Board of Trustees voted in favor of launching the soccer program at its last meeting on June 25. LTCC’s Physical Education Department is developing the curriculum surrounding the program, and a decision on a new team name and mascot will soon follow.

Job announcements for the related coaching positions will be released in August, with hiring decisions finalized by October. The new men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the field competitively starting in September 2014.

The City of South Lake Tahoe received an Award of Excellence from the California Park and Recreation Society for Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach. The City’s recognition in the category of Park Planning will be honored at the 2013 California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training Conference, held in San Jose March 6-8.
