The El Dorado County Charter was at the center of the Grand Jury's released end of year report last week. Their findings will be discussed at the County Charter Review Committee meeting on Thursday evening in Placerville.

This June, the South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive will celebrate its 48th year anniversary. The public is encouraged to donate blood and help save lives.

The community blood drive will take place on Monday, June 2 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, formerly the Embassy Suites, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the first floor conference rooms. BloodSource hosts the blood drive and Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary sponsors the event.

Living in a forest gives great benefits, but it also carries with it the risk of forest fires.

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for South Lake Tahoe is being developed jointly by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and Lake Valley Fire Protection District.

The community is being asked to complete a survey which will help the agencies prepare the CWPP. This will enable the creation of a plan on how the south shore will reduce it's risk of wildfire by identifying strategic sites and methods for fuel reduction projects.

South Lake Tahoe will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 26th at Bijou Community Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Earth Day was started in 1970 after peace activist John McConnell spoke at a UNESCO conference in San Francisco, calling for a day to honor the earth and call for peace. It is now celebrated in 192 countries.

TahoeChamber is partnering with Constant Contact to offer a special three-part series as part of the ongoing Tech Tuesday program. This three-part series begins with “Grow Your Business Email Marketing” on March 18 at 5pm at the TahoeChamber Conference Room. Constant Contact representatives will demonstrate how small businesses can utilize email marketing to engage and grow their customer base. Attendees will discover new marketing strategies and discover the elements necessary for a successful email marketing campaign.

A year and a half road construction project will result in the closure of Kingsbury Grade for almost 75 days this year and more in 2015. Since this will have an impact on local businesses, residents and commuters, a forum was held on Wednesday in order to inform the community about the impact.

TahoeChamber was recognized at the Western Association of Chamber Executives Conference in Los Angeles recently. The award was for their publication Tahoe Future Vision 2020 and for the bi-weekly e-newsletter.
The conference included chamber professionals from 18 western states and Canada.

The Lake Tahoe Community College District was voted into existence 40 years ago, on March 5, 1974. The College has big plans to celebrate its anniversary with a number of fun and educational events this year. Members of the media, the community, and college staff and faculty are all welcome to attend a press conference on Wednesday, March 5th at 11 a.m. to hear the College’s plans to mark its 40th year, and to honor its history. The conference will be held at the Econo Lodge at 2659 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, where the College first offered classes and welcomed its first students.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals is teaming up with Startup Weekend Tahoe to send two of its members to the 54-hour business startup event in Truckee, March 7 – 9, 2014. The South Tahoe Vikings varsity basketball team won Saturday's conference game against Churchill County by a score of 71-67. As has been the case this season, South Tahoe came charging out with strong play on both sides of the court. The 3rd quarter box score had Churchill outscoring South Tahoe 12-8 but the Vikings rebounded with a 19-15 4th quarter.

The Nevada Association of Counties and the Nevada League of Cities will hold their first joint conference September 10-12 at the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at Stateline, Lake Tahoe. This year's event is hosted by Douglas County, The Town of Gardnerville, Gardnerville Ranchos GID and Indian Hills GID.

Tahoe Hockey Partners, LLC announced today that newly formed Lake Tahoe Blue will play their inaugural Junior A hockey season at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena as part of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). League preseason games start September 20 and the regular season starts October 4.

Season and single game tickets will be available at the Ice Arena and online at www.tahoehockey.net on a date to be announced.

It’s official: men’s and women’s intercollegiate soccer is coming to Lake Tahoe Community College.

The LTCC Board of Trustees voted in favor of launching the soccer program at its last meeting on June 25. LTCC’s Physical Education Department is developing the curriculum surrounding the program, and a decision on a new team name and mascot will soon follow.

Job announcements for the related coaching positions will be released in August, with hiring decisions finalized by October. The new men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the field competitively starting in September 2014.
