Sunday morning collision in South Lake Tahoe sends one to the hospital

One man was transported to Barton Hospital Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was on collided with a Chevy Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe.

Personnel from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to a call that came in at 10:19 a.m. on October 2 on Highway 50 between the Raley's shopping center and Mc Donalds.

Two-vehicle injury crash closes Highway 50 at Echo Summit

5:15 p.m. update 10/3/16: A Carson City resident was transported to Barton Hospital after her Ford Bronco drifted into the oncoming traffic and crashed into a Jeep Wrangler.

Stephanie Peterson of Carson City was heading west on US50 near milepost marker 67 with her infant son in the car. According to the California Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation, she was also operating her cellular phone as she headed up Echo Summit in snowy conditions. She made an unsafe turning movement and allowed her Bronco to drift.

Heading east at the time was Jonathan Chacon of Mammoth Lakes.

Driver's name released in fatal Kingsbury Grade crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the driver killed in Friday's head on collision on Kingsbury Grade that also injured South Lake Tahoe residents.

Jason Collin, City Council candidate, on the mend after Kingsbury Grade crash

A number of runners and staff with Epic Tahoe Adventures were involved in Friday's collision between one of their rented motor homes and a SUV on Kingsbury Grade.

The South Lake Tahoe company was involved in the beta testing of a new running event which sent runners in teams of 12, running three legs each, in a 81 mile race from South Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Mountain.

South Lake Tahoe man injured, Wellington woman killed in Kingsbury Grade collision

Kingsbury Grade was closed for several hours Friday after a collision between a motorhome and a Nissan Pathfinder sent several victims to area hospitals and resulted in the death of one of the drivers.

At 1:30 p.m., the two vehicles collided about 1.5 miles down from the summit on the valley side of the road. One person from each vehicle had to be extricated according to Fire Marshall Eric Guevin of Tahoe Douglas Fire Department.

Care Flight landed at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade to transport the victims.

Three dead in plane crash at Reno Tahoe Airport parking lot

Reno Tahoe International Airport officials have confirmed the crash of a small aircraft into the long-term parking lot, resulting in the death of three people.

Wreckage can be seen sitting atop a number of cars in the surface lot.

At this time, there does not appear to be any fire at the crash site.

Woman hit by car while crossing Hwy 89 in South Lake Tahoe

12:00 p.m. update Sept. 6: A 27-year-old woman from San Francisco was hit by a car Monday as she attempted to run across Highway 89 in South Lake Tahoe. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Chatsworth, Calif., was driving northbound and did not see the woman as she ran across the five lanes from the 7-11 store to Sonney's BBQ Shack just before 6:00 p.m.

Neither identities have been released. The driver stopped immediately and was cooperative with investigators. Alcohol or other driver/pedestrian impairment is not a factor in the crash.

Carson High student and adult die in rollover vehicle accident

UPDATE 9AM: Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes offered condolences on behalf of Carson High School to family members after it was learned a 16-year-old CHS male student was killed in a rollover crash in Goni Canyon early this morning. An adult also died in the accident. The names of the victims have not been released.

“On behalf of the school, our students and faculty, we are very sorry for this loss. Our thoughts go out to family and friends of the student,” said Stokes.

Wrong way driver hits woman and children in Carson City head on collision

A Dayton, Nevada man driving the wrong way on a stretch of Highway 50 near the V & T train track overpass in Carson City caused a major injury accident on Saturday night just before midnight.

Steven Stults, 52, was in his Mazda pick-up, traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the highway when he struck a Saturn driven by Victoria Dwyer, 25, also of Dayton. In the backseat of Dwyer's car were her two small children.

Man seriously injured when he crashes into light pole in SLT

The man responsible for over 2,300 homes being without power on Tuesday morning in South Lake Tahoe was flown to Reno after receiving major injuries in a single car crash.

According to Lt. Brian Williams of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, the unidentified man was traveling west on Pioneer Trail just before 3:30 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and hit a power pole.

The condition of the 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man is unknown at this time. He had to be extricated from his Ford Explorer by SLT Fire Rescue.

Douglas County man dies in glider crash 8 miles east of Minden Airport

A 74-year-old man from Minden died Sunday after his AMS Carat Model A Power Glider crashed in the Pinenut Mountain Range.

At 2:50 p.m. on August 7, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Nevada Highway Patrol of an aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) notification. From the air, the Nevada Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Air Force located a crashed glider approximately eight miles east of the Minden Tahoe Airport.

Fallen firefighters from Zephyr Cove and Reno in procession from Carson City to Winnemucca

A procession from Carson City to Reno and then to Winnemucca began Saturday morning for two fallen Bureau of Land Management firefighters who died Sunday in a vehicle crash.

Memorial services will be held for Bureau of Land Management wild land firefighters Jacob O’Malley and Will Hawkins, who lost their lives in a single-vehicle accident July 10 on Nevada State Route 140.

Procession for fallen firefighters from Zephyr Cove and Reno

Honor guard processions were held Wednesday for two U.S. Bureau of Land Management firefighters who died Sunday in a rollover crash. A procession was held for Will Hawkins, 22 of Reno and Jacob M. O’Malley, 27, of Zephyr Cove which began in Reno and went to Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

The firefighters were returning to Winnemucca after looking for lightning-sparked wildfires in Northern Nevada. The vehicle crash happened near the junction of State Highway 140 and U.S. 95. A procession was held Monday for the fallen firefighters, escorted from Winnemucca to Reno.

Firefighter from Zephyr Cove dies in Northern Nevada crash

A single-vehicle crash has claimed the lives of two Bureau of Land Management (BLM) firefighters, one who is from Zephyr Cove. One other BLM firefighter was injured.

On Sunday evening, the firefighters were returning to Winnemucca after looking for lightning-sparked wildfires in Northern Nevada. NHP said tire failure may have caused the crash near the junction of State Highway 140 and U.S. 95 at about 5:00 p.m.

Saturday crash sends one to hospital

One man was transported to Barton Hospital Saturday evening after a collision between his Kia and a van near the intersection of Black Bart Avenue and Martin Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

According to CHP Officer Shannon Samas, the driver, a man about 40-years-old, was reported to be driving in and out of his lane when he and the van collided.

No names have been released, but Samas said the male had mild to moderate injuries and was transported.

No other details are known at the time and the details of the crash are under investigation.

Two Reno teens die in single vehicle crash near Northstar

The California Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation of a crash near Lake Tahoe on Friday night that has killed two teens from Reno. Two more are still hospitalized with major injuries.

According the the CHP, at about 8:30 p.m. June 3, a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 15-year-old Gregorio Martinez-Reyes made an unsafe turn and left State Route 267 near Northstar Drive, flipped an unknown number of times and came to rest in a field.

Staff and volunteers honored during South Lake Tahoe police ceremony

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department, in conjunction with Memorial Day and the National Peace Officer’s Memorial Week, held its annual award ceremony Thursday.

In a very moving ceremony, late SLTPD Officer Mark Hounsell was honored for distinguished service. Hounsell and his wife Jeanne were killed in a single vehicle crash October 17, 2015. Two memorial shadow boxes were presented, one staying at the police department, the other going to the Hounsell's place of worship, Lifepoint Church in Minden, Nev.

Single car rollover near Walker Lake claims life of German visitor

A German woman visiting the United States with her family died in a single vehicle rollover crash near Walker Lake on US95 May 7.

Liane Kramer, 24, was one of six people traveling north in a 2010 Toyota Sienna when the driver, 20-year-old Nina Kiseleva, went off the roadway after passing a semi-truck and trailer according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The car overturned in the dirt shoulder and came to rest on its wheels facing southwest at approximately 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Carson City sheriff's deputies flag 89 speeders, 21 cell phone users and 1 hair cutter in April operation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office participation in the Joining Forces Distracted Drivers event held from April 1 to April 20th resulted in the following:

1 arrest for DUI, 21 citations issued for cell phone use, 1 citation for an individual cutting their hair while driving, 2 citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian, 89 for speed, 19 stop sign and traffic light violations. In addition, 41 citations were issued for other traffic related violations.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy involved in three-car crash

Normally it is law enforcement that responds to vehicle crashes, but this time, it was an El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy who needed assistance.

Three cars were involved in the 6:30 p.m. accident on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the intersection of Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Tata Lane.

Distracted driving focus of zero tolerance days in South Lake Tahoe

On April 7 and April 20, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol will be especially vigilant for distracted drivers on local roads as part of a joint effort across the state.

Although the officers' goals are not to write as many citations as possible, sometimes citations are necessary for drivers to understand the importance of focusing on their driving.

Distracted driving is such an important safety issue that April is recognized as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

South Tahoe High grad killed in single car accident near Pope Beach

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a South Lake Tahoe teen early Saturday morning.

According to EDSO Lt. Jim Byers, 19-year-old Jillian Pruitt was the lone occupant in a car that collided with a tree on State Route 89 at 3:40 a.m. March 26, 2016.

Byers said the accident is still under investigation and few details are available at this time. He said that circumstance of the crash are making it complex.

Woman dies in single vehicle rollover accident in Washoe Valley

One woman died and a man was taken to the hospital by Care Flight after a single car rollover accident in the Washoe Valley early Friday morning.

Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to the accident on I-580 north of Bellevue Drive at 6:12 a.m on March 4, 2016.

Pedestrian dies in Washoe Valley accident

An 18-year-old Carson City, Nev., man died early Monday morning after being struck by a car as he was walking on IR-580 in the Washoe Valley.

Just after 1:07 a.m. on February 8, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene just north of the Bellevue Road overpass. Their investigation indicates that Chile Bartels was walking northbound in the slow lane of the highway when a car driven by 42-year-old Sparks resident James Dolan hit Bartels.

Dolan pulled over and parked according to the NHP.

The Society of Professional Journalists has awarded Jason Paladino, Sierra Nevada College Tahoe graduate and native of Truckee, Cal., their NorCal 2016 James Madison Freedom of Information Student Award for his investigation into the Navy’s Sea Dragon program.

Fatal car crash near Glenbrook

Two cars collided on Highway 50 near Glenbrook at 9:40 p.m. Friday, January 16, leaving a Los Angeles man dead.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers investigating the crash say a Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla, driven by Carlos Ortega Gomez of Mexico, was traveling eastbound. A white 2014 Subaru Impreza driven by 59-year-old Carson City resident Virgilio Ballesteros was traveling westbound in the slow lane.

Nevada fatalities on the road rose in 2015

While California figures are not in yet, Nevada has released a report on their traffic fatalities for 2015.

Preliminary data shows that there were 321 Nevada traffic deaths in 2015, an increase by 30 deaths over the previous year.

When compared with the number of miles driven in Nevada, though, traffic deaths have dropped from an average of 1.54 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled in 2008 to 1.13 fatalities per 100 million miles in 2013. Statewide, traffic fatalities reached an all-time high of 432 in 2006.

Body of missing Sparks woman found near Incline Village

The Nevada Highway Patrol say a Sparks woman missing over two weeks has been found dead, the apparent victim of a single vehicle rollover crash near Sand Harbor

72-year-old Betti Jean Fernandes left a home on Millstone Court to go for a drive Monday, November 30, 2015 and did not return. Her family had not heard from her since.

A photographer was in the area when he spotted the wreckage with Fernandes' body inside on December 14. The southbound travel lane of SR28 was shut down for several hours while the crash scene was investigated.

One dead, four injured, and five cars damaged in crashes at SR88 and Mottsville Lane

Two separate accidents at the intersection of SR88 and Mottsville Lane on Friday night left one woman dead and three injured.

Gardnerville resident Janis Hill, 64, died when her BMW entered the intersection at the same time as a Ford Taurus driven by 22-year-old Holly Ducoing of Carson City. The two cars collided and then hit a Honda SUV driven by Minden resident Robin Owens, 64, who was stopped at the intersection.

Hill had been traveling eastbound on Waterloo Lane and Ducoing was southbound on SR88 approaching the intersection with Mottsville Lane.

Fatal crash at Highway 88 and Mottsville in Douglas County

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fatal traffic accident at Highway 88 and Mottsville that occurred at 6:28 p.m. Friday.

One person was killed and four people were injured in the accident, which was reported at 6:28 p.m., according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Duncan Dauber. It was the second serious crash at the intersection Friday.

Three vehicles — a red Ford Taurus, a silver BMW and a white Honda SUV — were involved in the accident.

Increased law enforcement for Click-it or Ticket campaign in Nevada

Douglas County and Lyon County Sheriff's Officers are joining law enforcement from around the state in a Click It or Ticket campaign to remind motorists that seat belts save lives and that failing to buckle up can result in costly ticket fees.

Reno man dies in single car accident on Kingsbury Grade

A 52-year-old Reno man died Wednesday night in a single vehicle accident on the Carson Valley side of Kingsbury Grade, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.

The victim was driving a Budget truck westbound when, for an undetermined reason, the vehicle went off the side of the road, hitting a wall. The crash is being investigated as a possible medical issue, said Trooper Dan Lopez.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane in both directions as part of the crash investigation.

EDC schools chief Jeremy Meyers resigns after 2nd DUI arrest

El Dorado County schools superintendent Jeremy Meyers submitted his resignation to the school board Monday, and it was accepted after Meyers was arrested for two DUIs this year.

Meyers was arrested about 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 after crashing his pickup truck into a utility box on Green Valley Road and had a blood alcohol level of 0.19 percent, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Actor seriously injured in single vehicle rollover in Northern Nevada

Nathaniel Marston, 40, the former star of soap operas One Life to Live and As the World Turns, was seriously injured in a single vehicle rollover accident in Northern Nevada on Friday, October 30.

SLT Police Officer Officer Mark Hounsell and wife laid to rest

Hundreds of mourners attended the memorial service for South Lake Tahoe Police officer Mark Hounsell and his wife Jeanne on Saturday at the LifePoint Church in Minden, Nev.

An large crowd of family, friends and law enforcement paid their respects both along the route from the funeral home in Carson City to the church and at the church.

Roseville woman identified as victim in head-on collision near Kyburz

A woman from Roseville, Calif. has been identified as the victim in Friday's head-on collision on Highway 50 near Kyburz.

Kimberly Ayers, 51, was driving westbound at approximately 5:45 p.m. when her car drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with an SUV carrying four people.

Ayers died at the scene according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the SUV, Alfredo Castillo, 49, of San Pablo, Calif., suffered major injuries. His passengers suffered moderate injuries.

Illinois woman identified in crash that killed South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Hounsell

Laura Fisher of Washington, Illinois has been identified as the third victim in Saturday's single vehicle rollover accident on Highway 50 in Churchill County that also claimed the life of South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Mark Hounsell and his wife Jeanne.

The 33-year-old Fisher was visiting the Hounsells.

The Nevada Highway Patrol investigation details indicate a white 2004 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Minden resident Mark Hounsell, 42, was traveling westbound on US Highway 50. Six other occupants were in the vehicle including his wife Jeanne, 34, Fisher, four children.

Tragic Loss of South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Mark Hounsell

Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly single-vehicle rollover that occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday night that took the life of South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Mark Hounsell and his wife Jeanne, and one other person.

Victims in South Lake Tahoe plane crash are indentified

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two people killed in Saturday's plane crash in South Lake Tahoe.

California residents 73-year-old Conrad Yu of Oakley, and Mary Choy, 66, of San Francisco were killed when Yu's plane crashed shortly after take-off in the area near Elks Club Road an Pioneer Trail. The plane crashed into a tree adjacent to a home on Tionontati.

NTSB and the FAA continue their investigation in order to determine the cause of the crash.

Two people die as plane crashes in South Lake Tahoe after takeoff

8:00 a.m. update 10/12/15: Authorities spent Sunday removing parts of the plane that remained in trees surrounding the crash site that claimed the lives of two people in South Lake Tahoe.

Investigators say the plane hit trees before crashing behind a home on Tionontati Street just before 5:36 p.m. Saturday, October 10. A fire started which scorched the home.

The force of the crash broke a large tree just feet away from the house.

Two hurt in small El Dorado County plane crash

Two men suffered moderate injuries Wednesday after a small plane went down at the Georgetown Airport, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said.

Emergency personnel from several agencies, including Cal Fire, Georgetown Fire and El Dorado County Fire responded, finding the single engine Luscombe plane down an embankment near the runway.

The impact of the crash bent the nose up almost 90 degrees.

People familiar with the aircraft's two occupants told FOX40 both are longtime Georgetown residents, and one is the owner of the plane and a flight instructor.

School bus, pickup collide on Highway 50 East; 2 injured in motorcycle crash at Spooner

A school bus and pickup collided Friday afternoon on Highway 50 East near Airport Road in Carson City, sending the driver of the pickup to the hospital. The driver of the bus and two children aboard were not injured, said Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans.

"There were no injuries to anyone on the bus and the parents of the kids were there to pick them up," said Schreihans.

Three killed on Highway 50 near Fresh Pond

Three people were killed late Sunday night on Highway 50 in El Dorado County when the vehicle they were in went off the roadway and hit a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11:50 p.m. east of the town of Fresh Pond.

Four people were inside an SUV when the driver missed a curve and caused the vehicle to go about 100 feet down a steep embankment, officers said.
