Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. Dr. Annie Davidson should be the next LTUSD School Board member from Trustee Area #1. Since coming to Lake Tahoe, she has jumped into the community with great energy and commitment. For example, she is an adjunct faculty member of Lake Tahoe Community College and co-teacher at Tahoe Parents Nursery School with Aileen Yure and Jennifer David. She served as member of the Sierra House Elementary PTA Board as a co-grant coordinator, classroom volunteer, and also volunteers with the Coalition for the Homeless and Warm Room Advisory Council.

The Steampunk Gala is to benefit the literary festival,Tahoe WordWave. Champagne reception with the literary festival's keynote speaker, Galadrielle Allman will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a dance party "in the pines" along with appetizers, beer and wine from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Valhalla wraps up their annual summer festival with two concerts in the Boathouse Theater on August 24 and 31. The Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival is Lake Tahoe’s premier summer long festival of world class live music, theatre, visual and cultural arts, bring a wide range of activities to the historic estate.

The celebrities golfing over at Edgewood for the 27th American Century Championship has the opportunity to stop over the at Korbel booth and participate in the 10th annual “Korbel Celebrity Spray-Off” on Thursday, July 21. This year, the bassist for Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus, won top honors with his cork flying 80 feet.

As the prepared to tee off on the 18th hole, Korbel challenged celebrity and sports superstars to demonstrate their best champagne-popping talents at the Celebrity Spray-Off.

"This is fantastic," said South Lake Tahoe Mayor Wendy David. "We get to show our visitors what a great sense of community we have."

Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake, and Steve Kerr and Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors lead a group of 90 sports and entertainment stars coming to South Lake Tahoe for the 27th annual American Century Championship, July 19 – 24, 2016. Many were hoping to see Steph Curry on the list, but with the Olympic Games in Rio just after the tournament, speculation is that he had to skip the stop in Tahoe.

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (a non-profit public benefit agency) will hold its 13th annual Cinco de Mayo festival at Heavenly’s California Lodge on Friday, May 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet, authentic live music, folkloric dancers, children’s activities, a no-host beer and wine bar and tequila tasting will be featured at the event.

Tickets are on sale at the center for $20 in advance. They will be $25 at the door. Children 6 to 12 years old will be admitted for $10 and children younger than 5 are admitted free.

South Lake Tahoe will celebrate Earth Day with a full day of education, live music, arts and crafts and with local vendors and food at Bijou Community Park on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Recognize and celebrate our region’s unique beauty while being educated about local environmental issues. The public is invited to the free event where they will learn about ways to counteract global climate change through recycling and composting, alternative energy, water conservation, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint.

A packed house at MontBleu Resort Saturday night witnessed ten local celebrity couples dancing for the ultimate prize, the mirror ball trophy, during Tahoe Art's Project annual Dancing With the Tahoe Stars fundraiser.

After a few weeks of practicing with their trained professional partner, the celebrities put on an entertaining show that brought out the cheers and applause, and lots of money for the non-profit.

Over 60 women, men and children took their message to Heavenly Village on Valentine's Day as part of an international campaign to end violence against women. For the past several weeks, those community members have been rehearsing the dance routine they performed in front of a crowd near the gondola.

The next cast for the Tahoe Arts Project's Dancing with the Tahoe Stars has been announced, and the list contains ten South Lake Tahoe business owners, educators, police sergeant, and other well known locals.

Professional dancers will be working with the "celebrities" to teach them each a dance they'll bring to the MontBleu stage on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

Iris Kahm is teamed up with Jorge Favio Orozco to dance Salsa.

Men, women and children are invited to take part in the upcoming One Billion Rising flashmob which will be held in South Lake Tahoe on February 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

One Billion Rising is an international campaign launched to end domestic violence. Staggering statistics show that one in three women on earth will be beaten or raped during their lifetime, so with the world's population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

The annual Barton Foundation Festival of Trees and Lights opened Wednesday at MontBleu with tree judging and the Senior Stroll.

LTUSD Trees:

The inaugural Winter Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature stocking stuffers, gifts for Hanukkah and Christmas, and small prizes for attending. Food will be offered for sale by Seniors, Inc. The Senior Center is located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

After the kids have finished up their trick-or-treating, the South Lake Tahoe nightlife gives adults a lot of opportunity for some ghoulish fun.

Students at South Tahoe High have been celebrating Homecoming Week festivities all week long, from themed dress-up days to late nights spent building their class floats. The wrap up will be Friday's parade through South Lake Tahoe and Friday night's football games.

The final night of float building was Thursday, when the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's bus garage taken over by students putting on the final touches before judging at 10 p.m. Each class created a float with the assistance of their class advisors.

If you've been to the Town of Genoa you know how challenging it can be to access the internet and check your email due to spotty, at best, reception. This will be a thing of the past as the town just received $20,000 from the Douglas County Commissions on August 6 to fund their Main Street Wi-Fi Project.

While many may not know the name of Lillian Virgin Finnegan, they probably know the Genoa Candy Dance.

Lillian is the woman who started the Genoa Candy Dance in 1919 to raise money to purchase street lights for the town. The dance was held at the Raycraft Hotel, and Lillian and other Genoa women made candy to serve at the dance. In the years that followed, the annual dance continued as a way to raise money to pay the town's electric bill for the street lights. It was considered the "Big Event of the Season" by the people in the Carson Valley, Reno and surrounding communities.

968 Park Hotel is going to have a craft beer tasting event on Saturday August 15th at 5 p.m. at their outdoor pool facility which features a bar, stage and cabanas. The craft beer tasting will be followed by the much anticipated return of San Francisco’s Dirty Cello. Both events are free to the public.

The Washoe will re-unite at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe this weekend to honor their culture and heritage during their annual Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival.

The festival features native arts and crafts, food vendors, basket-making, raffles, Native American dance and drum performances. It is held at Valhalla Grand Hall and lawn on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe was the scene of the Korbel Hole-in-One contest on Friday, bringing together some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment to help raise money for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC).
