He had been suffering complications from a recent stroke.
Friends and family are invited to The Landing in South Lake Tahoe for the Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. Come share stories, love and laughter.

He was the family patriarch, where everyone looked to him for his wisdom and guidance; you could always expect a good story to go with what you needed, whether you asked for it or not.

Born on the Fourth of July in 1953 in San Francisco, CA, the whole country celebrated Bob’s birthday, and he loved it.
Bob graduated from Novato High School in 1971 prior to joining the Navy in 1972. He served as a Boiler Technician (BT) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (aka San Francisco’s Own). He spent time in Southeast Asia towards the end of the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of E-5 when honorably discharged in 1976.

Mr. Curtzwiler was born Jan. 27, 1982, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. The 2000 South Tahoe High School graduate was an avid soccer player.
Although he did not ski competitively, it was a sport he participated in with his family and one that he excelled at.
Celebration of Life to be held for long-time South Lake Tahoe local Randall Brown

Randall was born in Iowa, and was raised by his loving parents George and Verna. He graduated high school and, in 1974, he fell in love with South Lake Tahoe and was a resident for over 45 years.
He retired after a very successful career as a General Contractor building custom homes and owning his own business, RB Tile & Construction for over 30 years. He is survived by his twin daughters, Alexis and Ciara as well as his granddaughter, Gabriela.

He was at his home in South Lake Tahoe with his beloved nephew and care giver, Bill Sendle and Bill's family by his side. Gerald was born in the Ellenville Hospital in Ellenville, New York on October 25, 1935, to Fred and Sarah (Coddington) Hendrickson and was the third of seven sons and two daughters born in his family.

Robert was a member of the South Lake Tahoe community for more than 20 years where he was a loving father to his two daughters Serenity and Brittany. He is predeceased by his parents who he loved so dearly.
Robert was a personality you would not forget and has many friends all throughout the world that miss his outgoing spirit dearly.

“It is with the heaviest heart that I impart the news that our County’s Surveyor and friend, Phil Mosbacher, passed away unexpectedly at his home last Thursday,” said Board of Supervisor Chairman, John Hidahl. “Phil was a tireless public servant with deep roots in the community going back generations, who always approached whatever he did with a positive attitude. He will be deeply missed by all the people fortunate enough to call him a coworker and friend.”

Bill David Russell ~ August 25, 1930 – March 20, 2021
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/20/2021 - 8:45amEarly Saturday morning on the first day of Spring our father, Bill David Russell, went home to his heavenly father and joined the love of his live, Ann Amelia Russell, who proceeded him in death 21 years earlier. He is survived by his three sons and their wives (Alan / Nancy, Gary / Marja and Steve / Donna), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Bill was born to Harry and Katie (Hornbeck) Russell on Aug. 25, 1930 in Klamath Falls, OR. He was the youngest child in a family of 10 children (with 3 sets of twins).

Kyle is survived by his parents Darla and Tim Mazzoni, his brother Korey, his furry brother Max, and his Grandma Rosemary DePompa. He also was blessed with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She and her husband immigrated to the United States from Switzerland in 1957. After a very brief time in Tracy, CA they both discovered Lake Tahoe in 1959, bought a tiny motel that they soon completely rebuilt, and over the next 25 years fulfilled their American Dream. The Matterhorn Motel was our home, our fun, our family’s fondest memories. Relationships were created that are still in place today.
Flags to fly at half-staff for former South Lake Tahoe Police Chief and El Dorado County Supervisor Dave Solaro
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/29/2021 - 11:07amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Once called the "cornerstone" of South Lake Tahoe, Dave Solaro left his mark on a community he represented for 36 years, first as a police officer, then through the ranks to the police chief, director of public safety, and El Dorado County supervisor.
Solaro passed away Tuesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina, his home since leaving South Lake Tahoe in 2005. He was 78.
Donald H. Kortes ~ Feb. 27. 1931 - March 24, 2021
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/27/2021 - 10:41pmLong-time teacher and community member Donald H. Kortes died March 24, 2021 at home in South Lake Tahoe surrounded by his family. His death was due to congestive heart failure and complications from surgery in October. He was 90 years old.
Teresa Diane Golden ~ 1944 - 2020
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/12/2021 - 9:00pmTeresa Diane Golden, known as Teri, passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2020. She was 76. Teri loved living in South Lake Tahoe. She was active in the Democratic Party, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, Christmas Cheer, the Drugstore Project, helping hikers on the Pacific Rim Trail, the AARP tax preparation, and many other endeavors. Teri was also a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and The Women of the Moose. Her neighbors described her as a loving and generous person.
James Anthony Biller ~ 1941 - 2020

Growing up in Ventura, he surfed, sailed, played water polo for the Ventura High Cougars, and was one of the best swimmers Ventura High had ever seen, getting his varsity letter and pin as a sophomore and setting swimming records that stood for many years after he graduated in 1969. That Jim had a love of the beach, sailing, and everything that had to do with the water was obvious to everyone around him.
Longtime local Larry Lukins ~ 1944 - 2020
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/24/2020 - 10:44amLarry Lukins passed away on November 25, 2020. He was born February 22, 1944 to Melvin and Hazel Lukins of South Lake Tahoe. Larry was the third generation of Lukins’ raised in South Lake Tahoe.
Larry was always proud of growing up in “old Tahoe” and loved to share stories of the good ole days. As a child growing up in South Lake Tahoe, Larry and his brother Danny spent much of their time working on and building airplanes, cars and boats.
Raul I. Aguilar ~ 1942 - 2020

Aguilar was one of 10 children, born on April 17, 1942 in Ameca, Jalisco, Mexico and passed away on December 19th, 2020 in South Lake Tahoe, California. In his 20's, Raul worked as a radio disc jockey and enjoyed playing and winning in chess tournaments.
Raul moved to South Lake Tahoe in the early 1970's where he later got married and had three children. Raul always worked in the service industry as a banquet server and enjoyed meeting people and catering all sorts of events along the way.
Del Laine ~ March 20, 1930 - December 18, 2020
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/18/2020 - 3:12pmDel Laine has left her mark on South Lake Tahoe in ways that many local residents might not know. She was a mover and shaker, whose focus was on making the city a better place. Her most important role, though, was promoting the well-being of women.
This pioneer died Dec. 18, 2020, at home from natural causes, with family at her side. She was 90.
She was born Dolores Mae Wright on March 20, 1930, in Oakland, Calif., to Mabel Paulson and Leslie Wright.
Julia Catherine Towle-Farrell ~ 5/15/56 - 11/14/20
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/11/2020 - 11:49amIt is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother. Julie passed away peacefully in her sleep, after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Julie was born in Stockton, Calif. before the family moved to Napa. Eventually she landed herself in South Lake Tahoe before finding her love in Georgia, with her fiancé Erick Leich and son Sean.
After the passing of her youngest son, Army Specialist Garrett Fant in 2011, Julie became an active member of the Gold Star community, and to so many played a pivotal roll of support and love with its many members.
Eric Michael Berg ~ 3/13/1988 - 11/29/2020

The severity and duration of his addiction to alcohol was almost entirely hidden from his friends and family. He passed just hours before family intended to bring him to a medical detoxification facility.
Larry Schaffer - Long time resident dies at the age of 76
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/28/2020 - 6:12pmLarry Eugene Schaffer passed away on October 28, 2020 after a brief illness. He was 76-years-old.
The son of Harold and Mary Schaffer. Larry grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Larry enlisted in the Marines at age 18 where he was a radio mechanic during the Vietnam War. After the Marines he attended California State University Northridge and received a degree in Sociology. He went on to receive his Master’s degree.
Upon his return from the war Larry married Elizabeth Anne Brewer who preceded him in death after 10 years of marriage. Larry and Beth had one son, Jason Schaffer.
Jack Green ~ 2001 - 2020

His rapid decline in mental health was caused by many factors, central to which was the COVID-19 quarantine. Jack’s family and friends struggle to understand the delusion and despair which lead to this, when his life held such promise.
George William Craven, Sr. ~ November 28, 1938 – August 5, 2020

George was born in New York City, NY. He attended Brooklyn Technical
High School, Notre Dame University, and Carnegie Mellon University, where he
met his wife, Elaine, and acquired his MBA. He and his wife were married for 57
years. In 1995 they moved to Lake Tahoe where George and his wife have been
real estate brokers for the more than 25 years. Nonetheless, his first and foremost
concern was always his family.
George loved Lake Tahoe and spent many hours skiing and hiking. His favorite

Terry Alan Ogg ~ 1954 - 2020
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/06/2020 - 2:40pmLake Tahoe has lost one of its icons. At the young age of 66, Terry Alan Ogg left us suddenly July 28, 2020.
Terry was born March 18, 1954 in Richmond, California. He grew up in Pinole, California and graduated from Pinole High School in 1972. As a teenager, he developed a love for music and found his instrument, a "Huge" (his words) Hammond organ. He moved his organ to South Lake Tahoe in 1975 at the age of 21 on a quest to become a rock star, among other interests.
Marjorie Louise Daum ~ 1938 - 2020

The well known local businesswoman was 82.
Marjorie was as a very kind and sweet person, always greeting everyone with a cheerful smile and a hug. Her strong courage, humility, honesty and faith guided her successful path through life.
She was born on February 24, 1938 and moved with her family to South Lake Tahoe in 1947 where they lived at the Al Tahoe Pines Resort. The family's marine service station was where the current Globin's building and Pick 6 are currently located.
Ildefonsa Balwing ~ 1955 - 2020

David was born in Evanston, Illinois on May 23, 1932. He was in the Class of 1950 of New Trier East in Winnetka, Ill. and in Yale’s Class of 1954. He served in the Marine Corps in Japan during the Korean War. While working at Bell and Howell in the 1960’s, David attended night school to earn an MBA at the University of Chicago.

Originally from Kauai, Hawaii, Dr. Oishi first traveled to Lake Tahoe in 1979 and has made South Lake Tahoe his second home ever since. Noboru and his wife, Jeri, split their time between Tahoe and Texas. Besides being an oncologist, Dr. Oishi and Jeri owned the Enchanted Florist in South Lake Tahoe
John Russell Rice, Jr. ~ 1957 - 2020

John is preceded in death by his parents: father John Russell Rice Sr. of Fremont, Calif.; mother Elizabeth LaVerne Rice-Killion of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and his grandson Mason Allen Geist of Gardnerville, NV.

Dylan grew up in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. After graduating from South Tahoe High Scool in 2003 he moved to Phoenix, Ariz. to attend Universal Technical Institute - Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Division. He completed his studies becoming a certified motorcycle and small engine mechanic.
Dylan always loved going for a hike locally with his dog Spanky.

Marlin Joseph "Hersh" Herschman ~ 1943 - 2019

Born Marlin Joseph Herschman on Jan. 12, 1943, in St. Ignatius, Montana, he would always be best known as Hersh or The Hersh Man. He died Aug. 7, 2019, at The Chateau at Gardnerville in Nevada of inoperable brain cancer. His wife, Sheryl, and best friend for more than 40 years Greg Painter were with him. He was 76.
After graduating from St. Ignatius High School in Montana in 1961, Hersh joined the U.S. Army for two years. He spent two summers at West Point.
Krista Kline Carson ~ 1971 - 2019

Always positive, always upbeat she would constantly describe her life as AWSOME! She was a positive force for everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Jesse Kalin (Philip) Carson, daughter Trella Ruth Carson, parents Don and Gwen Kline, brother and sister-in-law Scott and Jen Kline, step-daughter Madison Merz, step-son Travis Steidle and uncles, cousins and other relatives too numerous to mention.
Former South Tahoe High Teacher loses cancer battle

She was attended by her husband, Jeff Davies, and her mother, Helen Valborg, when she finally succumbed to the cancer she had been so determined to overcome. Her death deprives the world and all who knew her of a bright and healing light.

Ray was born to Michael Kope and Edith Roskos Kope on December 19, 1943, in Lakewood, Ohio. When he was a young boy, his family left their home in Ohio and headed west to the San Jose, California, area where Ray attended grammar and high schools.

Mickey and Doug had been married for 48 years. He is also survived by daughter Shannon Crowe, daughter Kendra Miesner, and granddaughters Brianna and Adrienne. He was an avid dog lover and Cleo and Jake will miss him very much.
Celebration of Life set for Judy Brown

She attended Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood and graduated from South Lake Tahoe High School. She studied at El Camino College and Lake Tahoe Community College.
Allison was an accomplished sailor spending almost every weekend during her early high school years sailing to Catalina Island.
