Lynn Harriman is taking the TINS “Tahoe Big Year” to another level with her “Bird-A-Thon” fundraiser. She’ll be walking the entire Tahoe Rim Trail this summer and asking for pledges for each bird species she spots along the way. She did the same thing in 2018, spotting 80 different species and raising nearly $6,000 in the process.

Sörenstam, who will be playing from the men's tee, is one of four women playing in the tournament. She joins NBC News/TODAY Show host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer, NBC Sports anchor and on-air personality Kathryn Tappen, and GOLF Channel on-air commentator Kira K. Dixon, 2015’s Miss America.

China Springs Youth Camp for boys closes due to staffing and financial instability

East Shore Express service to Sand Harbor suspended due to staffing shortage

“We’ve never experienced a driver shortage of this magnitude before. We are hoping we can fill the positions with qualified candidates quickly so we can relieve some of the congestion – and all of the issues that come along with it – on this stretch of road as we lean into yet another busy summer season,” said TTD District Manager Carl Hasty.

Witnesses said the driver was crossing into oncoming traffic. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer J. Heitzman was on the lookout for the vehicle, a white Toyota Tundra when it was spotted west of Tamarack Pines.
Placer County Sheriff seeking suspect in Homewood homicide

On June 5, 2021, at 10:00 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call in the 3000 block of West Lake Boulevard in the Hurricane Bay area of Lake Tahoe. When they arrived they found Robert Gary Spohr deceased of a single gunshot wound.
Surveillance in the area caught the video of a male who could be seen on foot around the property earlier in the day, which was the time of the incident.

Gertrude’s Garden and flower beds surrounding the park’s historic buildings are always in need of attention as the seasonal flowers grow and bloom.

What started out as a temporary solution for the first few weeks of the 2020-21 school year, ended as a full year of 7th grade for eight boys in a garage. Yep, a garage.
Almost 300 acres burn in Jacks Valley Fire

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: The fire has been remapped at 285 acres and is 85 percent contained. The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and East Fork Fire Protection District remain in unified command of this incident.
UPDATE 6/10 7:45 a.m.: The Jacks Valley fire started south of Jacks Valley Road yesterday afternoon. Multiple state, federal and local agencies responded and began suppression operations in coordination with both fixed and rotor-wing aircraft.

Fire crews worked throughout the night and the fire is now 90% contained. They will remain in the area continuing to mop up hotspots and patrol for lingering smokes throughout the day. The cause a tree into powerlines causing the powerline.

DCSO seeks public's assistance in locating suspects in Cave Rock theft
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/09/2021 - 9:09amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect(s) involved in a vehicle burglary and the fraudulent use of a credit card at Cave Rock.
During the day on May 24, 2021, a vehicle parked at the Cave Rock Trailhead was broken into. A purse with several credit cards was stolen. A short time later, the stolen credit cards were used at the Walmart and Target stores in northern Douglas County. Video surveillance of these transactions shows the pictured persons using the cards (see photos above).

First case of Hantavirus reported in Douglas County
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/08/2021 - 9:44pmA Douglas County man has been diagnosed with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome after being exposed to the virus while spring cleaning, according to the Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS).
CCHHS said due to medical privacy no additional information about the case will be released.
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is a severe, sometimes fatal, respiratory disease in humans caused by an infection with hantaviruses. HPS is a rare disease with only 14 cases being reported in Nevada, outside of Clark County, since 2005.

Understanding why the lake drops, and who causes it to drop (yes, there is a person - the watermaster), is key to knowing why the lake should be at its natural rim of 6,223 feet above sea level by the beginning of August. As of June 8 the lake is two feet above that rim.

Maddie’s Pet Project of Nevada has announced Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days happening Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12, 2021. Douglas County commissoners approve new VHR ordinance and appoint advisory board
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/07/2021 - 4:28pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Vacation home rentals (VHRs) in Douglas County will have a new set of rules to follow starting the third Thursday in July, the 15th. By a vote of 4-1, the County Commissioners approved the updated ordinance that adds new parking regulations, a cap of 600 permits in Tahoe Township, creates a new tier system based on home size, and other updates. There will now be a civil penalty of $20,000 for operating an unpermitted Tier 3 VHR and $10,000 for unpermitted Tier 1 or Tier 2 homes.

The opening act will be Poolside. This DJ set is the recording project of producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Paradise.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/06/2021 - 6:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Low pressure dropping south along the West Coast through mid-week Wednesday will bring windy conditions each day with the Red Flag Warning continuing until 9:00 p.m. Monday. There is also a Lake Wind Advisory from noon to 9:00 p.m. Monday.
After a week that saw several record highs, a cooling trend will continue with highs dropping to 10-15 degrees below average by Wednesday. Dry weather will prevail, except a few showers are possible late Wednesday in northeast California and northwest Nevada. Breezy and mild conditions may persist into next weekend.

City Council Chambers reopens to in-person meetings
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/05/2021 - 6:55pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Starting June 10, in-person meetings will resume in the South Lake Tahoe City Council chambers for both the council and the Planning Commission.
Thursday, June 10 is the Plannng Commission meeting starting at 3:00 p.m., and City Council follows with its first meeting back in-person on Tuesday, June 15 for an evening meeting.
Plannng Commission has an agenda posted and City Council wll post its agenda at the end of the week. For agendas, visit HERE.
Red Flag Warning in effect for Lake Tahoe Sunday and Monday - No flames allowed

These are the conditions where a spark can become a catastrophic wildfire, with dry fuels, low humidity, and high winds in the forecast. All of the wildfires that have caused devastation across California and northern Nevada in recent years occurred during red flag weather conditions.

Organizers said CHP told them they are too short-handed due to the pandemic and cannot spare officers to escort them through Meyers and over Echo Summit this year.

The bill signing was held Friday at the campus of the Stewart Indian School, and Gov. Sisolak was joined by tribal elders as well as legislative representatives.

NDOT to begin overnght lane closures of US-50 between Stateline and Spooner Summit/SR-28
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/03/2021 - 7:13pmThe Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced there will be overnight lane closures along U.S. 50 from Stateline to Spooner Summit beginning June 6 and going into early fall. The closures will happen periodically between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on weekdays for utility work.
Crews will work on small sections of the highway at a time. One lane in each direction will remain open as they work. Business and residential access will remain available. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic delays.

A second fireworks show added in the South Shore after Lights on the Lake canceled

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - A group of South Shore businesses, residents, and groups have come together to put on a Fourth of July fireworks show of their own after the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority canceled its Lights on the Lake due to crowd and safety concerns.
New Tahoe Regional Trails Plan being developed, public input survey underway

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) announced today there is a public survey to aid in the development of the new plan, and the timing is perfect ahead of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 5.
