Reverse 911 system fails during Douglas County's Spring Valley Fire
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/17/2024 - 12:39pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - There was a glitch in the Douglas County Reverse 911 software during Tuesday's Spring Valley Fire so wireless alerts were unable to be transmitted to residents during a critical evacuation notice.
County officials said this unforeseen technology issue posed a significant challenge. However, Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Douglas County Search and Rescue team were able to conduct door-to-door notifications to alert residents promptly. Their swift action ensured that residents were informed and able to evacuate safely, minimizing potential risks.

Roads reopen and evacuations lifted at Douglas County fire

8:45PM UPDATE: Evacuations for Topaz Ranch Estates were lifted at 8 p.m. and residents may now return to their homes. The Topaz Ranch Estates Community Center evacuation center is now closed. The evacuation for Double Springs is still in place. U.S. 395 is still closed in both directions at Leviathan Mine Road and State Route 208.

The next chapter of gaming in the same building that hosted the South Tahoe Nugget, John's Tahoe Nugget, and Ed's Tahoe Nugget, is about to begin.
The Tahoe Nugget has been undergoing some remodeling, and owner David Steve Tate hopes to be open by August 1. There is a new carpet, tin ceiling, mountain-style paneled walls, a new rock fireplace, a large bar with televisions, and about 140 slot machines.
Harmful Algal Blooms not found at El Dorado Beach or Nevada Beach

The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board (Lahontan Water Board) and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) collected water samples on July 8 and July 10 at the two beaches, El Dorado Beach in California and Nevada Beach in Nevada.
Suspect arrested in South Lake Tahoe shooting

Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting that had just occurred on the 2300 block of Eloise Av.
South Lake Tahoe Police (SLTPD) patrol officers arrived in the area and found a victim (a 32-year-old male) near the intersection of Tahoe Keys Blvd. and Eloise Ave., who suffered injuries from what appeared to be blunt force trauma to his head. The victim was quickly transported to Barton via ambulance and has since been released.

Lightning strikes South Lake Tahoe home, causes small fire; Tree at Emerald Bay also struck
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/15/2024 - 3:45pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Firefighters responded to a lightning strike on a South Lake Tahoe home Monday afternoon and were able to quickly extinguish it before any major damage.
Just after 3 p.m. on July 15, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the home on Jeffery Street near the Tahoe Keys. As a lightning cell passed over South Lake Tahoe, a bolt hit a tree adjacent to the home, and then hit the roof of the home. The homeowners were at home at the time and were able to get out. There were no injuries.

Everyone is welcome to wrestle in style "beach wrestling" for male and female divisions from 5 years old and up. Sign-ups from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, wrestling starts at 10 a.m., and awards and cleanup at 1 p.m.
There will be a coaches/officials meeting @ 9:30 a.m. Both set up and clean up help is needed. Bring buckets and tools to soften sand before the matches.

Temperatures will also remain moderated to near or just above seasonal averages through the week.
More typical July warmth is expected through much of this week. A warming trend looks likely next weekend as a ridge re-amplifies over the western US, according to Reno's National Weather Service (NWS).

Fish, the former professional tennis player, and U.S. Davis Cup captain, birdied nine of his final 13 holes – each worth 3 points in this modified Stableford scoring event – and has 57 points, seven points clear of second-place Joe Pavelski heading into Sunday’s final round. The winner receives $150,000 of the $750,000 purse.

Thielen had three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th to finish with 24 points at the 35th annual celebrity golf tournament. Fish, the 2020 winner, had five birdies and totaled 23 points in the Stableford scoring used in the ACC.

Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe Saturday and Sunday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/12/2024 - 8:21pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Services (NWS) in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe, Truckee, and the rest of the Eastern Sierra, northeast California including Surprise Valley, and western Nevada.
The warning is in effect from 5 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds up to 50 mph. Scattered thunderstorms are expected with little to no rainfall.
Whenever there is a Red Flag Warning in South Lake Tahoe, no outdoor fires of any kind are allowed due to the fire danger. This includes BBQs.

On Thursday, the Korbel Long Drive Contest was held, with recently retired Jason Kelce recording the longest drive on the par-5 15th hole. Kelce hit the ball 322 years and for his efforts won $5,000 to go toward a charity of his choice.
NTSB releases preliminary investigation on plane crash that killed two on their way to South Lake Tahoe

Raphael Jones Jr., 74, of San Jose, and Nannete Singer, 80, of Lodi, died in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the crash.

South Lake Tahoe man convicted of impersonating federal officers
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/11/2024 - 6:19pmSACRAMENTO, Calif. — After a three-day trial, a federal jury found Anton Andreyevich Iagounov, 38, of South Lake Tahoe, guilty of four counts of impersonating a federal officer, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.
Iagounov pretended to be a federal law enforcement agent by creating and sending counterfeit investigative documents, which he signed in the name of a fictional federal agent, seeking highly protected information from the Department of Defense.

Currently, Bread & Broth (B&B) serves hot and nutritious meals on both Monday and Friday and offers a wide range of services and programs for children ages 18 months to age 18.

Kapcheck, 27, joins the Knight Monsters after playing the past three seasons with the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL) where he registered 59 points (7g, 52) in 115 regular season games from 2022-2024. He also added an additional 14 points (1g,13a) in 31 playoff appearances with the Growlers in 2022 & 2023. The 5-9, 179-pound blueliner also made ten appearances last season overseas with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia logging an assist.

The legislation now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Select bottom barriers to be removed from Taylor Creek/Marsh in South Lake Tahoe

These bottom barriers were installed in 2022 as part of a collaborative effort to remove invasive plants from approximately 17 acres of wetlands in Taylor and Tallac creeks and marshes in preparation for the larger Taylor/Tallac Restoration Project.

The gauntlet has been thrown down and DJ Khaled and Jimmy Fallon will be facing off at Edgewood Tahoe this Saturday during the American Century Championship (ACC). The two were talking about golf as Khaled was a guest on Fallon's show when a challenge was made, resulting in the two going head-to-head in a special challenge golf match.
The pair, who aren't in the ACC tournament, will play on the popular par-3 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course after the conclusion of Saturday's third round, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
CHP seeking South Lake Tahoe hit and run suspect

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a light blue Subaru Outback with a bike in the back struck another vehicle in the SR-89/US-50 roundabout. The Subaru was being driven by a white male adult wearing a tan floppy hat. The Subaru fled the scene without exchanging information with the other driver, a violation of 20002(a) VC.
