Going, going, gone - Old Tahoe Urgent Care leveled to allow for site restoration

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - The 67-year-old building that once housed Tahoe Urgent Care at the corner of 4th Street and Lake Tahoe Boulevard has been demolished. Crews were on hand Tuesday to tear down the old building on the .48 acre property purchased by the California Tahoe Conservancy parcel. The parcel sits on environmentally sensitive land that is subject to frequent flooding.

Three South Tahoe High students set to play at collegiate level in their sports

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Their high school sports careers probably weren't what they expected with pandemic-caused delays and cancelations, but three South Tahoe High athletes are now going on to play at the next level.

During a signing ceremony in front of friends and family at the school on Wednesday, Maiella Riva, John "Jake" Whisnant, and James Adams shared their commitment to colleges with a signing ceremony.

Tahoe Art League announces logo contest winners

The Tahoe Art League wishes to thank everyone who participated in their logo contest. They had entries from as far away as Finland and from people as young as 16! Judges said it was a tough decision. There were many very creative versions of the lake theme, painting/paintbrush themes, and even one wonderful entry that featured Tahoe Tesse!

Next storm heading for Lake Tahoe could bring snow measured in feet above 7000 feet

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next storm that is heading to Lake Tahoe brings with it a powerful punch for a spring storm. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin to be in effect from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to 11:00 a.m. Friday.

Just as gardeners want to start getting plants into the ground, instead it will be snow accumulating that could measure almost a foot by the time this strong system exits.

Registration open for Douglas County Parks & Recreation adult softball leagues

Registration is underway for the Douglas County Parks & Recreation adult softball leagues. The divisions Offered this season are co-ed on Tuesday nights and men’s on Thursday nights.

The cost is $500 per team and registrations are accepted until the league is full.

The season starts the week of May 10, 2022.

All Games will be played between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at Zephyr Cove Park.

170 people participate in NDOT information booths on US50 corridor

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - As the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) makes plans for the US50 corridor on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, the public has been participating in the process. There were three information booths sent up from March 30 to April 2, with 170 community members and stakeholders taking part by providing input and learning more about the initial concepts for the highway. These include vehicle, transit, and multi-modal strategies to enhance roadway travel and safety on US50 between Spooner Summit and the Nevada-California border at Stateline.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin that will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. Monday to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Expect southwest winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Up to 100 mph at the Sierra Crest and 60 mph in wind prone areas. Waves on the lake 2-4 feet are possible.

New Caltrans project for State Routes 88, 89 and 4 to add cameras, electronic signs, and more

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to install traffic management systems and roadside safety improvements in and around the Kirkwood and Carson Pass area, with one in Meyers and 12 other locations in Amador, El Dorado, and Alpine counties on State Routes 88, 89, and 4. Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday, April 16 from 2:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches above lake level, except 6 to 12 inches along and west of Highway 89, including Donner Summit. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph and waves of 2 to 5 feet on Lake Tahoe. Ridgetop winds will gust up to 100 mph at times.

Demolition underway at site of old Lakeside Inn to make room for Stateline Medical Center expansion

STATELINE, Nev. - The bulldozers have been busy on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe this week, tearing down the walls of the old Lakeside Inn hotel rooms and other buildings along Kahle Drive that at one time housed a market, bike shop, and the old Glass Crutch casino.

Sunray Hotel code issues not corrected, violations coming

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After numerous code violations were found at the Sunray Hotel in South Lake Tahoe on March 7, the City of South Lake Tahoe gave the owners 30 days to address a list of items that needed to be corrected.

On April 13, City staff returned to the Lake Tahoe Boulevard motel used by local weekly and monthly renters.

Guilty verdict for man who killed El Dorado County Deputy Brian Ishmael

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – An El Dorado County jury has found Juan Carlos Vasquez-Orozco, 22, guilty of the murder in the second-degree of El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Ishmael. The jury also found Vasquez-Orozco guilty of Assault with a Firearm on El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies Brian Shelton and Shawn Taroli and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Tasabia. Tasabia was off-duty at the time, but in the area and assisted deputies.

Man arrested at Stateline accused of stealing more than $1 million from victims

A 65-year-old man suspected of stealing more than $1 million from 10 victims was arrested by deputies from Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) at Stateline on April 1.

The suspect, George Ronald Russell, allegedly made false claims to victims when securing investments in a booklet he wrote called, The DUI Nightmare.

Each week, food-insecure students from Lake Tahoe Unified School District get a bag of food for the weekend when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available. Bread & Broth 4 Kids also provides weekly food during the summer.

Donohoe sentenced 50 years-life for murder of South Lake Tahoe gas station attendant

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On March 1, a South Lake Tahoe jury found Sean Thomas Donohoe guilty of murdering Manpreet Singh in August of 2013 as he worked in the US Gasoline station on the corner of Lodi Avenue and Lake Tahoe Blvd. Today, Judge Suzanne Kingsbury sentenced Donohoe to 50 years to life for the cold-blooded killing of Singh.

Washoe County commissioners approve amendments to vacation rental ordinance

WASHOE COUNTY, Calif. - The Washoe County Board of Commissioners had a first reading of a short-term rental (STR) ordinance update at its meeting on Tuesday, wrapping up months of research and public input to amend the county code.
