October 21, 2022 - 7:30pm The Reno Jazz Orchestra will present “Creative Directions in Jazz” at the Nevada Museum of Art on October 21, 2022. The program is presented as part of UPSTAGE: A Literary and Performing Art Series supported by the Nightingale Family Foundation and the Williams Foundation. The concert will showcase original compositions by contemporary composers.
During this innovative concert, the audience will be treated to the seventeen-piece Orchestra’s musical journey exploring new, creative directions in jazz during this one-of-a-kind event.

Free basketball clinic offered by Tarkanian Basketball Academy

A second clinic will be held on October 22 for those who live in the Carson Valley. It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.
Each student that attends the clinic will receive a free Tarkanian
Basketball Academy T-Shirt.

The regulations placed on their operation are working. Local cannabis businesses have generated funding for the economy, not attracted crime, patients have had better access to medication, and few residents have reported problems.
Funding for complete streets project approved for Kahle Drive at Stateline

The current water-filled potholes are very large, and drivers are seen dodging the holes, resulting in an unsafe pedestrian area, as well as unsafe for vehicles.
Relief is on the way as funding for the Kahle Drive Complete Streets Project was unanimously approved by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Thursday.

While the permit is from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., doors are scheduled to open at 2 p.m.
The permit request was from the Save Amerca PAC for a political rally that will be attended by former President Donald Trump who is campaigning for GOP Senate hopeful Adam Laxalt and gubernatorial nominee Joe Lombardo.

Seasonal closing dates announced for USFS recreation facilities at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/06/2022 - 9:54pmThe USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has begun the annual process of closing recreational facilities around the Lake Tahoe Basin for the winter season. Seasonal closures apply to many National Forest recreation sites including beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas, and forest roads.
Campgrounds, picnic areas, and beach facilities on National Forest lands managed by Tahoe Recreation, a division of Vista Recreation (formerly California Land Management) will close at the end of the day on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022. Inspiration Point is scheduled to close on Nov. 30.
Pre-checkout plastic bags to be banned from California grocery stores by Jan. 1, 2025

And now, after recent action in Sacramento, grocery shoppers will soon not be seeing the roll of plastic produce bags hanging above the Brussels sprouts, green onions, and bell peppers. Nor will plastic bags be provided for placing packages of meat.

City Council candidate arrested, says situation has been blown out of proportion
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/06/2022 - 7:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Candidate for South Lake Tahoe City Council, Kevin Brunner, was arrested Saturday on charges of vandalism and arson.
According to a report by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), the 30-year-old Brunner saw his ex-girlfriend talking to another male in a local casino. The report states the woman later went back to her apartment where she found a broken window, and destroyed items inside, along with Brunner.
SLTPD Detective Sgt. Scott Crivelli said some personal items of the victim were maliciously burned.

Edgewood generously donates its course and facilities to BGCLT every year to host one of its biggest fundraisers.
“The Club is so grateful for Edgewood’s generosity,” said Aimi Xistra-Rich BGCLT director of development. “Over the previous 28 golf classics, we’ve raised $900,000 for the Club, at this year’s 29th event we’re hoping to break $1M collective donations.”

Widespread power outage from South Lake Tahoe to Meyers, and Kingsbury Grade

Liberty Utilities lost its transmission from NV Energy, which caused over 23,000 Liberty customers to lose power for about two hours from South Lake Tahoe, to Meyers, and down to Woodfords and Markleville. At the same time, NV Energy customers at the lake also lost power.

American Legion LTCC Veteran Scholarship awarded

During a recent gathering at the Legion hall, Post Commander Tom Millham presented Staff Sergeant Thoreson the award. Thoreson is currently studying Anthropology at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe.

"Many factors have led to this decision, much has changed for us personally and professionally, and that has only accelerated since 2020," the owners stated. "Ultimately, with the conclusion of the summer season and our participation in the recent Genoa Candy Dance, now is the right time for us to call it a day."
Fundraiser created for families of four men injured in Douglas County paving incident

All men are currently at the UC Davis burn center, and Kevin Warren of Nevada Paving said it is very expensive for the families to travel, stay away from home, and still have normal expenses covered.
"We are trying to do everything we can for them," said Kevin.

After the last City Council meeting where the ban on single-use plastic water bottles passed its first reading, there has been much public debate about the bottles, something many generations never had. Convenience took over and single-use bottles became popular.
Free South Lake Tahoe after school program on ice

This will take place on Wednesdays starting October 5 from 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. This is a great way for kids to enjoy some ice time after school, experience something new, and have fun with friends.
Participants are encouraged to bring a helmet, and gloves for safety purposes. Skates will be provided for free. All parents will be required to sign a Liability Waiver in order for their child to participate.

No applications received for open LTUSD trustee spot - deadline is Friday

Per the Education Code, LTUSD must publicly announce the vacancy for the four-year term that will run from December 2022 to December 11, 2026. They asked for candidates to file on September 12, but, as of Monday, there were no applications turned in.

The public is invited to learn about the ballot propositions through a hearty discussion at the next South Lake Tahoe Republican Women Federated meeting. Meet the Republican candidates for South Tahoe Public Utility District and discuss ballot propositions.
"We understand this is a nonpartisan race. SLT RWF is organized to promote and help elect Republicans to public office per our bylaws," the group said.
It will be held on October 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casey's, Round Hill Center by Safeway, 212 Elks Point Rd., Zephyr Cove, Nev.
