SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is presenting Western Days, a two-day celebration of local history and the annual US50 Wagon Train.
On June 4, join in the fun at the Lake Tahoe History Museum complex in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be an old-fashioned western shootout, a Chautauqua presentation of a member of the Donner Party, horse, and carriage rides, kids games from an era gone by, live music, food, drink, and vendors. There will be tours of the museum, 1930s cabin, and the Osgood Toll House.

170 people participate in NDOT information booths on US50 corridor

There were three information booths sent up from March 30 to April 2, with 170 community members and stakeholders taking part by providing input and learning more about the initial concepts for the highway. These include vehicle, transit, and multi-modal strategies to enhance roadway travel and safety on US50 between Spooner Summit and the Nevada-California border at Stateline.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin that will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. Monday to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Expect southwest winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Up to 100 mph at the Sierra Crest and 60 mph in wind prone areas. Waves on the lake 2-4 feet are possible.

The meeting is on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the current recreation center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.
The ground is scheduled to break on the new facility this year.

Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph and waves of 2 to 5 feet on Lake Tahoe. Ridgetop winds will gust up to 100 mph at times.

Sunray Hotel code issues not corrected, violations coming

On April 13, City staff returned to the Lake Tahoe Boulevard motel used by local weekly and monthly renters.
Guilty verdict for man who killed El Dorado County Deputy Brian Ishmael

The jury also found Vasquez-Orozco guilty of Assault with a Firearm on El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies Brian Shelton and Shawn Taroli and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Tasabia. Tasabia was off-duty at the time, but in the area and assisted deputies.
Man arrested at Stateline accused of stealing more than $1 million from victims

The suspect, George Ronald Russell, allegedly made false claims to victims when securing investments in a booklet he wrote called, The DUI Nightmare.

Donohoe sentenced 50 years-life for murder of South Lake Tahoe gas station attendant

This session is geared towards children aged 4-10 years old who are looking to learn the basic fundamentals of ice skating. Classes are designed around fun, and focus on balance, learning how to fall and get up, and stride development.
Skates are provided free of charge, and all sessions after April 16 are $10 and are pay-as-you-go. Helmets are encouraged and are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

David Jack: First wrestler added to South Lake Tahoe's Champion Plaza

Surrounded by friends, family, city officials, and the wrestling community, the star wrestler was honored for his accomplishments on the mats from South Tahoe High to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to the Olympic Trials.
David was the first California state wrestling finalist to come from South Tahoe High School.
He Said STHS has always put out great skiers, and he wanted to be a good wrestler but there was no roadmap.

The Commission strives to attain a balanced geographic representation and applicants are sought from all areas of the county, including South Lake Tahoe. Two-thirds (66 percent) of teens who report the abuse of prescription pain relievers are getting them from friends, family members, and acquaintances. While some teens abuse medicine to party and get high, many are using medicine to manage stress or regulate their lives.
Operation Save Lake Tahoe - $60M plan to bring in permanent firefighting helicopters
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/10/2022 - 6:56pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There is no firefighting or rescue helicopter assigned to the Lake Tahoe region on a dedicated, permanent basis, and Tahoe Douglas Fire Chief Scott Lindgren is trying to change that.
Lindgren has created "Operation - Save the Tahoe Basin" to bring the valuable tool to not only the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe but to all of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.
It will not come cheaply and he estimates he will need $60M to create a helicopter base with two helicopters.
Family outing: Mama bear and cubs
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/10/2022 - 5:53pmMama and her cubs were spotted in a yard off Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe. She started to cross the street, then thought better of it. It’s a good reminder to slow down and watch for our furry neighbors when driving.
