Advent Adventure for kids at Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Church

The Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church is hosting its 4th annual Advent Adventure Christmas Party for kids. Join them for this free community event - all children in grades TK through 6th are invited. Participants will play games, learn about the first Christmas, build crafts, have snacks, sing, and decorate cookies.
Parents are free to drop off their children or stay for the event. Children ages 3-4 are welcome but the parents will need to accompany them.
The party starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 8. Please plan to pick up your children at 4:30 p.m.

There is an overwhelming amount of planning to be done, expectations to uphold traditions are high, and stress rises due to impending financial strain and possible family conflicts. It’s hard to know what we can do to help others through the challenging holiday season.
Mostly sunny week ahead for South Lake Tahoe, no storm in sight

The temperatures will be highly variable across the region -- those areas remaining trapped with fog/stratus staying near or below freezing, while other valley locations may warm into the upper 40s. Temps are well above normal in the mountains -- with high temps into the 50s and lows near or above freezing.
The week ahead in South Lake Tahoe will see sunny, clear skies and calm winds. Perfect weather to get those outside holiday decorations up!

Night to Shine will be held on February 7, 2025, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. Organizers have already started planning and need the community's help.
Night to Shine is a promlike experience for individuals with disabilities who are 14 years old and above. The Tim Tebow Foundation sponsors it. Mountain House is the host church, and Access Tahoe is helping support this event.
Kudos: Bread & Broth hosts 33rd annual holiday dinner
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/30/2024 - 10:23pmSt. Theresa’s Bread & Broth once again held its Thanksgiving meal to provide a holiday dinner for those who might not have the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast that many of us take for granted. Except for the two years during the pandemic, Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers have been hosting this free community traditional event for 33 years. Over the years, thousands of community members have enjoyed the heaping servings of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls, and their choice of pumpkin, cherry, apple, or pecan pie.
Measure T one-day trial over in El Dorado County; Parties now to submit final briefs

The ballot measure was a citizen-initiated one that restricted vacation home rentals (VHRs) in South Lake Tahoe located in residential areas. They were still allowed in non-residential areas (tourist core, commercial, recreation) and residents were allowed to rent their homes, no matter the location, up to 30 days per year.

All proceeds go to support members of the community currently undergoing treatment by providing transportation and when needed, small grants to make their lives easier.
This chocolaty sweet event begins on December 2 and runs through December 21 They are open daily at the American Legion from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College Women's Soccer team has a big home game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Coyotes will be battling City College of San Francisco for a trip to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA or 3C2A) Final Four.
The game will be held at South Tahoe Middle School.
The LTCC team is 10-0 in the Golden Valley Conference this year, 19-1-2 overall, and is riding a 15-game winning streak. San Francisco is 8-1-2 in the Coast-North division, 16-2-3 overall.
Inmate in El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe found deceased in cell
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/29/2024 - 12:04pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An inmate in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe was found unresponsive in his cell at about 5:30 a.m. Friday. Correctional officers, jail nursing staff, and fire personnel attempted life-saving measures however the inmate was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The identity of the inmate will be provided by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s (EDSO) Office after the next of kin has been notified.
Two die in Thanksgiving night crash on US50 west of South Lake Tahoe

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on November 28, the crash occurred between a green 2001 Toyota Sequoia (traveling west) and a silver 2015 Chevrolet Traverse (traveling east) near US-50 east of Audrain Way. The Toyota and Chevrolet collided head-on in the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

Registration will be held at Kahle Community Center on Wednesday, December 4, and Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parents or guardians must attend with the child(ren). The season costs $200 for 7-12 year olds, and $275 for those aged 13-17.

South Lake Tahoe man reports car stolen shortly after it's involved in a hit-and-run crash
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/25/2024 - 12:03amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (STLPD) responded to a call for a hit-and-run collision on Ski Run Blvd. at 6:34 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival, officers found three damaged vehicles, all of them unoccupied. Upon investigation, they found that two of the vehicles were parked when the third, a Subaru, crashed into them and then crashed into a tree. The driver of the Subaru was nowhere in sight according to SLTPD.

Annual Carson Valley Parade of Lights route and road closure information

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Carson Valley Parade of Lights is scheduled to illuminate the streets of Douglas County on Saturday, December 7. The road will be closed at approximately 4:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 5 p.m.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has these reminders for a great parade experience:
Parade floats will begin at Heritage Park onto Main Street from Eddy Street and head north through town, left on Esmeralda, and to the end at Minden Town Park.
Main Street will be closed to traffic from Waterloo to 6th from around 4:30 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m.

Chance of rain and snow in week ahead in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/24/2024 - 9:21pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Wednesday at 4 a.m., the storm appears to be trending warmer with snow projections cut back in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The most pronounced impacts of this storm will be felt across portions of Alpine and Mono counties on Tuesday, with elevations above 7,500 feet experiencing the greatest snowfall.
After this passed, the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend will be generally dry with sunshine and cool temperatures.

Power restored to the 17,000+ customers who spent part of Sunday in the dark
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/24/2024 - 11:44amUPDATE: Liberty has restored power to the over 17,000 customers without electricity Sunday afternoon. Power was back on to all South Lake Tahoe customers by 3:30 p.m.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty is reporting a large outage at the Y in South Lake Tahoe that is affecting about 6,055 customers. The outage was reported at 11:19 a.m. and at this time, crews are on their way to determine the length of an outage.
There are also a few, smaller outages at the northwest end of the lake.

On November 22, 2024, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Officer Michael Griffiths IV, 24 years old, was placed under arrest for sexual assault of an inmate.

I learned the West Texas twang and how to use Southern slang. Instead of saying, “If I had my way,” my relatives would say, "If I had my druthers.”

Museum including a replica Washoe Village, a replica silver mine, a
Mark Twain exhibit and a raised Tahoe Steamer centerpiece. We
could create jobs, preserve history, and increase tourism.
Annual Tree-lighting ceremony at Heavenly Village

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The official lighting of the Christmas tree at Heavenly Village will be held on Friday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. but the action get underway at 5 p.m. with live entertainment.
Watch Santa Claus arrive as the over 60-foot tree is lit amidst much fanfare.
Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, Congressman Kevin Kiley, and El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf will all be on hand for the ceremony which will also feature Kristen Brown, the Roseville resident who survived the knockout round and is a member of Team Legend on The Voice.

These stories have included animals being euthanized, long-time volunteers and staff members being let go, a board that isn't transparent, coyotes breaking in and killing an eaglet, and the loss of a permit to house rehabilitating bears.
