Crews searching for man missing in Lake Tahoe

The man fits the description of Xavier Olivas, who crews searched for in excess of five hours. The official identification, cause, and manner of death will be confirmed by the Medical Examiner.

STATELINE, Nev. - The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club is holding its annual Breakfast of Champions on July 7 at Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe. This year's guest is comedian Rob Riggle from Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show, and the current co-host of Holey Moley.
The 7:30 a.m. breakfast will be held in the Hard Rock convention center and is open to the public. The cost is $25 per person.

NHP tickets 30 vehicles parked illegally at Lake Tahoe

After spending a day at the beach along SR-28 or Zephyr Cove on US-50, those parking over the white solid fog line or in areas marked with "No Parking" signs could find a ticket, or their car towed away.
Over the June 12 weekend, NHP troopers wrote 13 parking tickets at Sand Harbor and Zephyr Cove, the two hotspots for beachgoers that don't follow parking rules nor obey parking signs.

“Everybody has had enough,” the governor said, announcing he’d signed a sweeping executive order overhauling the state’s approach to wildfire prevention. On July 21, TERC is hosting "Beer: The reason we're live!" on the Patterson Patio at Sierra Nevada Universty from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Limited tickets are available for $45. This event is expected to sell out quickly.
El Dorado County man pleads guilty to murdering his wife

The body of Heather Orr Gumina had been found two months after the mother of three went missing in El Dorado County.
Gumina pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and to two separate incidents of
felony domestic violence against Heather.

Transportation services will continue to be free for all riders for the foreseeable future, a change that was made amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Besides locals, TTD encourages all visitors to Lake Tahoe to consider using the free transit system.

Incline Village man arrested after shots fired in Kings Beach
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/22/2021 - 8:31pmPLACER COUNTY, Calif. - An Incline Village man was arrested on several charges including attempted murder after allegedly shooting at a man in Kings Beach on Sunday.
Deputies from the Placer County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired in the Kings Beach area on June 20 at 3:37 a.m. A witness was contacted and claimed that they were woken up by at least five gunshots from outside their residence near Bear Street and Rainbow Avenue. The witness also told deputies they saw a vehicle drive off at a high rate of speed.

Despite taking most of their classes online during the COVID health pandemic, 413 students made the college’s Dean’s List.
To earn the distinction of making WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Full response to 911 call about a man being trapped under a car in South Lake Tahoe

On Monday morning at about 10:35 a.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) dispatch center received a 911 call from a male with what sounded like a Hispanic accent, who mumbled what dispatchers thought was "I'm under a Lincoln Navigator." After listening to the call a few times, police are thinking the person was working on a car, it fell on him, and now he needs help.

Brooks Smyrski was recently invited to a prospects camp for the Golden State Elite hockey club. After that camp, Brooks was invited to try out for the upcoming year's 15AAA team. He was then offered a position on the team.

coming week, with temperatures cooling to near normal by midweek, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
Another heatwave with chances for thunderstorms is possible going into next weekend.

I was working construction and a friend of mine, Del Lafountain, begged her to go out with me so he could go to another place to eat.
The first date was great. On the second date we got in a car wreck and she went to the Truckee Hospital and I went home. Jimmy Newton, my future best man, and I went to pick her up, and as I looked at her lying there all busted up, I turned to him and said, “I am going to marry this one.”

El Dorado County Department of Transportation (DOT) will hold a virtual town hall meeting Thursday, July 15, 2021, to discuss the current pilot project initiated over the Memorial Day weekend to reduce the historical traffic congestion caused by holiday traffic exiting the Tahoe Basin.

Will Lake Tahoe see relief from record high temperatures?
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/19/2021 - 7:57amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While Sunday, June 20 is the first day of astronomical summer, most in the Lake Tahoe Basin and around the west will say the heat of summer is already here! The forecast has a high of 90 for much of the Lake Tahoe Basin on Saturday and if that comes to be, it will be a tie of the high temperature for the date. The record high for June 20 is 88, which also happens to be Sunday's forecast.
Here is a glimpse of the temps this week:
June 14 - 71. Record is 84.
June 15 - 77. Record is 86.
June 16 - 86. Tied record.

Life jackets being collected at area Coldwell Banker Select offices
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/18/2021 - 8:39pmColdwell Banker Select offices around Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area are collecting life jackets until June 24. They have a goal of collecting 2,000 jackets that they can hand out before the 4th of July weekend.
A lack of a life jacket has put many swimmers, boaters, and water recreationists in danger of cold water shock and drowning.

The course will cover the history of Chautauqua through the present, research methods and resources, appropriate era costuming, and character presentation.
Course instructors include historian Debbe Nye, author Karen Dustman, and Chautauquans DebiLynn Smith, and Kim Harris.
South Lake Tahoe flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/18/2021 - 7:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The American Legion Post 795 held its annual flag retirement ceremony at the Legion in South Lake Tahoe on June 14. They were joined by the Lake Tahoe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Boy Scout Troup #594.
Over 60 flags were burned, the only official way to retire a flag. During the past several weeks, DAR led collection efforts in getting flags to the Legion for the ceremony. Members then appropriately cut the flags up to be burned.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue was also on hand as a safety measure.

Join a newly formed Senior Kayaking Group for a morning of relaxing paddling at 8:00 a.m on Thursday, June 24 at Kiva Beach in South Lake Tahoe, and continue weekly on Thursdays all summer.
This is not a business or tour so no equipment is available at the site - bring your own.
The group plans on paddling for four miles (about two hours). They have formed in order to kayak safely with others.

Knowing people can be inconvenienced by roadwork, the City of South Lake Tahoe Public Works Department created an interactive map that shows local projects within the city limits.

The South Lake Tahoe native opened her first salon, Rah Hair Studio, in 2009 after working for other salons on the South Shore. Then, after ten successful years, expanded into a new home at The Crossing at Tahoe Valley.
