DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Summer traffic on US50 from Stateline to Glenbrook increases during the summer with over 20,000 motorists on an average day using the highway. Included in that traffic are beachgoers, many turning off the highway into the Round Hill Pines Resort with a posted speed of 45 mph. The left turn for eastbound drivers is a dangerous one since there is no dedicated turn lane and at the top of a vertical low-visibility curve.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The results of the 2020 Census are six months behind due to COVID-19, so when El Dorado County finally gets them they'll need to move quickly in preparation for the 2022 election.

STATELINE, Nev. - Casinos in the state of Nevada shut down in March 2020 as the coronavirus started to put its grip on public activity. This monthly report of Nevada's non-restricted gaming licensees for the month of April 2021 does not compare to the previous year's activity as normal due to the closure.

The Gaming Control Board (GCB) reported a total “gaming win” of $1,039,444,911 for the month of April 2021. In its monthly report, GCB figures show the casinos on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe had a "win" of $21,760,733. Both of these figures are down from last month.

In an effort to increase vaccination rates in all 58 counties of California, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced a new program, Vax for the Win. This vaccine incentive program is designed to motivate Californians to get their vaccination leading up to the state’s reopening on June 15. The incentives aim to give an extra nudge to those who still need to get vaccinated against COVID-19, especially those in hard-to-reach communities, while also thanking everyone who has already been vaccinated.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work has begun to finish two phases of the 3.86-mile long South Tahoe Greenway Shared-Use Trail (Greenway) that will connect Sierra Boulevard to the Van Sickle Bi-State Park near Stateline in South Lake Tahoe.

COVID put a delay on the project because the delivery of materials for the precast concrete boardwalk system was delayed. The Houston, Texas concrete plant contracted for the project had been directly impacted by the pandemic.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Nev. - Homeowners in the Lake Tahoe Basin portion of El Dorado County rushed to get their vacation home rental (VHR) permits before the cap of 900 was met and any new clustering rules were added to the ordinance. The 900 number only pertains to the Lake Tahoe Basin and not the West Slope.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been two Sundays since the right-turn bans have been placed on North Upper Truckee and Sawmill roads. And during those two Sundays, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued verbal and written warnings for making a right turn to head west on US50 during 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 16 and May 23. The right-turn ban will also be in effect on holidays including Memorial Day May 31.

Former Truckee resident Jack Ray Snyder, 63, now of Wellington, Florida, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb to six months in prison, six months home detention and a $30,000 fine for tax evasion, Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.

Snyder was also ordered to pay $134,497 in restitution. He faced a possible five years in prison and $100,000 per each of the eight counts in the original indictment.

On Sunday, May 23, at approximately 5:25 p.m., two cars collided at the intersection of US-50 and SR-28, sending both drivers to the hospital via ambulance.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the driver of a red 2003 Subaru Forester was traveling southbound on SR-28 and failed to obey the posted stop sign at the intersection with US-50. At that same time, a black 2004 Nissan Xterra traveling westbound on US-50 struck the left side of the Forester.

One of the drivers had minor injuries and the other had non-life-threatening injuries, according to NHP Tropper Hannah DeGoey

Western Nevada College will celebrate the achievements of its 2020-21 graduates on Monday and Tuesday in Carson City and May 27 in Fallon. Collectively, the three drive-through ceremonies will honor 641 students who are approved to receive 669 degrees and certificates of achievement.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - In less than a month, the State of California is slated to fully reopen the economy with the removal of mask mandates and the color tiered system that has been in place to orchestrate what could, and could not, be done at the height of the pandemic.

Until June 15, El Dorado County remains under state mandates, and the Board of Supervisors reminds residents that it is the "Governor’s Administration which determines COVID-19 related restrictions and guidelines."
