SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe area for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This includes the greater Lake Tahoe area including South Lake Tahoe, Markleeville, Truckee, Glenbrook, Stateline, Tahoe City, and Incline Village.
Winds will be from the southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and waves 1 to 3 feet.
Small boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing.

The hard work of firefighters has allowed the fire containment to increase over the last few days steadily, and it is now at 76 percent. Fundraiser started for Reno firefighter injured in Davis Fire

Alex Aldana is a 27-year veteran of the fire service and has served the citizens of Reno and Northern Nevada since 2005 with the Reno Fire Department.
As he was helping protect homes in the St. James Village area during the Davis Fire, Aldana suffered a potentially career/life-altering eye injury.
His crew was quick to render aid, and the medical support put in place through the Incident Management Team quickly got him to definitive care.
Expect delays on SR28 project between Kings Beach and Tahoe City

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.
Utility work with one-way traffic control is scheduled along SR-28 at the following locations and times:

The new season features an eclectic array of talented performers across various genres, offering something for everyone in the community.

The purpose of the Tahoe Basin Caldor Hazard Tree Fuels Reduction Project is to reduce excess vegetation (fuels) associated with remaining hazard trees and to stabilize and revegetate priority areas disturbed by fire suppression and initial hazard tree removal activities.

The early meals were very simple and served around 25 dinner guests. WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - Crews have continued to make good headway on the Davis Fire on Thursday. All containment lines in place around the Davis Fire perimeter have been held, and hand crews will continue to shore up the lines (going back 20-100 feet into the fire area).
A couple of isolated unburned pocket areas - a total of 10-20 acres are producing the smoke seen in the area on Thursday. Firefighters want to burn them out and minimize future smoke on the fire. There was no change to the fire acreage during the day and remains at 5,824 acres.

The community of South Lake Tahoe lost a wonderful teacher and friend in Beverly "Bev" Etter, who passed away on March 10, 2024. Bev was a longtime member of Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
Bev was a full-time teacher for 32 years, teaching in Weaverville, Corning, Chico, and South Lake Tahoe. Upon retirement, her passion for teaching brought her back and she substitute taught for an additional 22 years in South Lake Tahoe. In the total of 54 years, Bev taught, loved, and made a difference in the lives of over ten thousand children.

Trustee Larry Reilly did not seek reelection to the Area 1 seat.
The position to be filled is a four-year term ending December 14, 2028.
Due to the vacancy on the Board of Education due to a "failure to elect," LTUSD Board of Education will appoint someone. Applications will be accepted until Friday, October 4 at 5 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A transient has been arrested on suspicion of setting two small warming fires between Bijou Park and the bike path near Murietta Drive in South Lake Tahoe.
On September 12, 2024, just before 6 a.m., first responders were called to the area when a person reported seeing smoke about 100 yards away from the bike path.
Upon arrival, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) located the fire and observed a male subject fleeing from the area on a bicycle. Officers pursued the man and quickly took him into custody.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe extends its deepest condolences to those impacted by the Davis Fire in the Reno area. South Lake Tahoe residents and business owners experienced the challenges of evacuation during the Caldor wildfire threat in 2021 and many found accommodations and services in surrounding communities. A current scam is currently making its rounds around Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area, and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) are both warning the public to not be a new victim.

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - Fire managers at the Davis Fire burning south of Reno have reported the fire is now 31 percent contained, burning 5,646 acres. Evacuation zones have been updated, with some areas reduced to evacuation warning zones, with evacuation warning zones growing (see photo above or refer to https://perimetermap.com/).
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said the Red Flag Warning Wednesday is a "particularly dangerous situation," a warning they haven't issued in five years.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - An elder scam investigation conducted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team (DCSET) has led to an arrest. On September 9, 2024, the DCSET identified a suspect who was part of a group that used threats to intimidate the victim into giving them approximately $68,000.
DCSET made contact with one of the suspects who drove to the victim's residence to pick up more money. DCSET was able to arrest Minglong Chen for Conspiracy, Extortion, and Exploitation of the elderly/vulnerable person.

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - The allied command agencies working on the Davis Fire have ordered a Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) for the fire that has been burning in the Washoe Valley since Sept. 7, 2024. The fire has burned 5,596 acres and is zero percent contained.
With the CIMT, more resources are available, and incident meteorologists and fire behavior experts are on the scene. (In California this type of team has been called a Type 1 management team).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Davis Fire, burning above Washoe Valley, has burned 5596 acres as of Tuesday morning. The containment line remains at zero percent. 423 personnel are currently working on the fire.
There is a Red Flag Warning in the fire area through Wednesday evening. Fire crews will continue to work on perimeter control today, especially in areas of high fire activity.
All evacuations remain in place, and areas under evacuation orders are closed to the public. Due to fire activity, there are no public escorts into the evacuated areas at this time.

California was admitted to the United States as the thirty-first state on September 9, 1850, making it the first state to do so without first being a territory.
There was cake and ice cream in Sacramento, the state's capitol, on Monday, but what happened to the annual paid holiday and celebration?

6:30PM UPDATE: The Davis Fire is now measured at 5,000 acres, still with no containment. There are currently 12 helicopters assigned to the fire with 10 dozers, 58 engines, 15 crews, and 600 personnel. A community briefing is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Depoali Middle School in Reno.
WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - The Davis Fire burning in the mountains above the Washoe Valley continues to cause problems with evacuation warnings still in place from Davis Park to Arrowcreek.

The address, themed "This Is Coyote Country" will highlight LTCC’s progress toward their annual goals while looking forward to the 2024-2025 academic year.
This year’s SOCA will once again be live-streamed, making it accessible to the entire LTCC community and the public.

Equine Assisted Memorial Walk
Our 2nd Annual Walk during Suicide Awareness Month will be held Friday, Sept 13, at 7 p.m. at Heritage Park. This event is free and open to those who are grieving a lost loved one. There will be a path of illuminary to walk with (or without) our therapy horses.
We look forward to a powerful and supportive evening to hold space for hurting people. As this event is free, and donations are appreciated to help cover costs. Thank you for your support.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) forest thinning projects are underway and scheduled to continue for the next several weeks, conditions and weather permitting. Some projects are expected to continue through the fall. WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - Fire officials have been able to remap the Davis Fire and the mapping shows the fire at 4,703 acres. There is no containment this morning. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) says 600 fire personnel are working on the fire.
There is no change Monday morning in the evacuation zones.
TMFPD says the fire held in most areas overnight but wind gusts are expected this afternoon.
SR431, the Mt. Rose Highway remains closed from Mt. Rose Ski Area to South Virginia. I580 is open. Old 395 is closed from I580 to South Virginia.

With many experts to hear from, learn about all your choices after high school - college, trade school, the armed forces, or the workforce. Hear from a local attorney about the responsibilities of adulthood in this free event.
The public is invited to Adulting 101: Responsibilities and Choices after High School on Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.
Mary Sue Harris ~ 1941 - 2024
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/08/2024 - 9:15pmOn June 13, 2024, Mary Sue Harris, a long-time resident of South Lake Tahoe, sadly passed away.
Born on May 16, 1941, in Arkansas, Mary Sue moved to Stockton, Calif. where she met her husband of 64 years, Albert. They moved to Tahoe in 1961 and raised two children, Terry and Robin. Mary Sue did daycare for 45 years, helping to raise numerous children around South Lake Tahoe.
Mary Sue touched the lives of many, and will always be remembered with a smile.
Major delays expected again between Kings Beach and Tahoe City during SR28 broadband project
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/08/2024 - 8:26pmNORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.
The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.
Utility work with one-way traffic control is scheduled along SR-28 at the following locations and times:
