Winter weather advisory remains in place overnight in Lake Tahoe

A storm that dropped over a foot of snow at higher elevations around Lake Tahoe is hanging around Thursday evening.
Chain controls are in place on roads in the Sierra including Highway 50, I-80, State Route 88 and 89, Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit. On Hwy 50 they start as low as Kyburz, Dew Drop on SR-88 and Baxter on I-80 as of 5:10 p.m.
The winter storm warning is in effect until 4:00 a.m. Friday morning. A few more inches of snow is forecast for lake level.
Drier conditions with mild temperatures will return for the weekend and early next week

This AfternoonSnow showers. High near 29. Southwest wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
TonightSnow showers, mainly before 10pm. Low around 20. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
