Meet Lake Tahoe Community College student artist Ashley Pfister

Event Date:
May 20, 2012 - 2:00pm

Ashley Pfister has art in her blood. Pfister grew up in a small Connecticut town. From an early age Pfister enjoyed building things with her father and spending time outdoors. Her artistic imagination led to an early career in mud pies and mud Easter eggs, which she hid around the neighborhood for other kids to find.
Her fascination with art might have had something to do with her grandparents, who met while attending the Chicago Institute of Art or her mother who attended school for ballet. But whether from genetic programming or just a case of “following your bliss,” Pfister’s early mud creations set her on a path filled with art.

Beginning Sunday, May 20, the public can view Pfister’s creations along with more than 500 other student art works at Lake Tahoe Community College’s annual student art exhibit. There will be a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Pfister came to LTCC with a bachelor’s degree in studio arts from North Carolina’s High Point University. Her focus had primarily been on the world of two dimensional art. At LTCC, Pfister went back to her mud pie roots and started exploring three dimensional art mediums. Pfister has produced ceramic pieces from functional vessel forms to inspiring sculpture of exquisite detail and color.

“I love the college community, and the studio space is fantastic,” Pfister said, adding that she was adamant about one point. “You have to find your bliss.”

Pfister said she working to create a portfolio of pieces and looking forward to potentially obtaining her master’s degree.
