The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is hosting one of their popular Fireside Chats on Tuesday, May 28 with speaker Jerry Blackwill presenting the Construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. Join them by the fireplace at the historic Camp Richardson Hotel at 7:00 p.m.
Blackwill is the president of the Truckee Donner Railroad Society.
150 years have passed since a civil engineer from the east and four shop owners from Sacramento designed and built one of the major engineering marvels of the nineteenth century. With the completion of the railroad, one could leave San Francisco and arrive in New York City just ten days later. Previously it was a grueling six months on a stagecoach to complete that route.
The cost for the event is $3 for non-members, free for members. There is limited seating so arrive early for the best spot.
Prior to the start of the historic chat will be a brief Lake Tahoe Historical Society membership meeting. Light refreshments will be served.
