Hard Rock water leak less than first reported

As reported on South Tahoe Now Friday, the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe shut down their pool due to a large leak which was releasing chlorinated water into the soil.

The initial leak had been discovered on Thursday, and the pool and pump were shut down until it could be determined where the problem was located.

The Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) sent an investigator to the South Shore property on Friday. Upon the initial visit, they reported an estimated 20,000 gallons of water was leaking out each day, but for how long they didn't know.

On Tuesday, July 28 the investigator returned to the Hard Rock. They determined the release of chlorinated water into soil to be less that originally reported. According to JoAnn Kittrell, public information manager for the Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, new data puts the estimate at approximately 4,000-5,000 gallons per day, which also includes normal pool evaporation.

Kittrell said they are trying to determine if any environmental problems have arisen due to the leakage. The total number of lost gallons is unknown at this time.

The pool holds 200,000 gallons. The pool and hot tub remain closed until the issue can be resolved.
