COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there are 24 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, 15 of those in the Lake Tahoe area. The remaining nine new cases are spread out: five in El Dorado Hills, two are in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Placerville, and one in North South County. Of these 24, two are under the age of 18, 20 are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 and older.

There were 71 tests for the virus given since yesterday, and 47 negative tests were returned.

There are 20 assumed additional recoveries leaving 210 presumed active cases.

Two fewer hospitalizations, leaving one in the ICU. There are currently no suspected cases in either Barton or Marshall hospitals.

There is a new interactive dashboard for COVID-19 that shows all current data in both Spanish and English. The new dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified about the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates which serves as the best approximation of the date of infection:
- symptom onset date
- diagnosis date
- specimen collection date
- date received
- date of death

The rate of new cases in El Dorado County, found HERE, is the number of cases received in the state’s electronic lab reporting system (CalREDIE) over a 14-day period. The 14-day case rate being used to make the determination for whether or not a county is on the monitoring list is being calculated using episode date.

The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 5.0 percent, and the 14-day rate of new cases is 122. The Lake Tahoe and El Dorado Hills regions are High (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100 or greater). Much of the balance of the county is Moderate (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99).

The new dashboard also shows a graph of all cases, to date, or the estimated date a person become infected.

County-wide there have been 637 cases with 309 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).
