COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/07/2020 - 5:05pm
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials have confirmed another 13 positive cases of COVID-19 for the county since yesterday. Of those, two are from the Lake Tahoe region, five in El Dorado Hills, three in the Greater Placerville region and three in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Two are under the age of 18, seven aged 18-49, three aged 50-64, one aged 65 or older.
160 more tests were administered. There were 147 negative tests returned, 36 assumed recoveries and currently 169 assumed active cases of COVID-19.
At this time there have been no additional deaths, leaving that total at one. To date, one person has died from the virus in El Dorado County, a South Lake Tahoe man.
The State's reporting system, CalREDIE, continues to experience delays impacting our data (due to not getting all the negative results, the County's positivity rate is showing above the State's eight percent threshold for going on the watch/monitoring list). Also, as a result of these delays, the State has paused putting any additional Counties on the watch/monitoring list.
One additional person has been admitted to the hospital. There are currently three people hospitalized with one of those in the ICU. There are no suspected cases of COVID-19 in the hospital.
At this time the positivity rate shows as 9.9 percent, but that figure is inaccurate do to the state's data issues.
The interactive dashboard for COVID-19 shows all current data in both Spanish and English. The dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified about the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates which serves as the best approximation of the date of infection:
- symptom onset date
- diagnosis date
- specimen collection date
- date received
- date of death
The rate of new cases in El Dorado County is the number of cases received in the state’s electronic lab reporting system (CalREDIE) over a 14-day period. The 14-day case rate being used to make the determination for whether or not a county is on the monitoring list is being calculated using episode date.
The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 9.9 percent, and the 14-day rate of new cases is 111. The Lake Tahoe and El Dorado Hills regions are High (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100 or greater). Much of the balance of the county is Moderate (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99).
The new dashboard also shows a graph of all cases, to date, or the estimated date a person become infected.
County-wide there have been 729 cases with 353 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).
