Chain controls back up Sunday night around Lake Tahoe, expect some snow Monday

UPDATE 11/28/16 11:00 a.m.: All road restrictions have been lifted around the Lake Tahoe Basin. There is a 10-20 percent chance of snow during the remainder of the day.

UPDATE 11/28/16 7:40 a.m.: Chain controls remain over Echo Summit on Highway 50, chains required on all vehicles except 4-wheel drive with snow tires from Meyers to Twin Bridges. Highway 50/Spooner Summit and Kingsbury Grade are clear with no controls. SR 88 to Silver Lake requires chains on all vehicles except 4-wheel drive with snow tires, then from mile post 45.4 to mile post 66.7 in Amador County require chains or snow tires required on all vehicles. Controls on Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 as well.

A weak storm has dropped into the area Sunday night, prompting chain controls once again over I-80 and Highway 50. There are just a few inches of snow expected at upper elevations from this storm that will be out of the area later Monday. Most snow is expected through the Highway 50 corridor between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

As of 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, travelers on Highway 50 from Sand Flat to Twin Bridges are required to have on chains or traction devices, unless a four wheel / all wheel drive vehicle with snow treaded tires on all wheels.

Donner Pass on I-80: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels.

SR89 over Luther Pass: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels.

At this time, there are no other controls in place but expect that to change.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Wind Advisory from 1:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday.

* WINDS: INCREASING TO WEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS 35 TO 40 MPH.

* WAVE HEIGHTS: 2 TO 3 FEET...HIGHEST ON THE EAST SHORE.

* SMALL BOATS, KAYAKS AND PADDLE BOARDS WILL BE PRONE TO
CAPSIZING AND SHOULD REMAIN OFF LAKE WATERS UNTIL CONDITIONS
IMPROVE.

Monday - A chance of snow before 10am, then a chance of snow showers after 10am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday - Sunny, with a high near 37. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 17. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the evening.

Wednesday - A 30 percent chance of snow after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday - A chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 36.

Thursday Night - A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.

Friday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
