Actors of All Ages Wanted For Upcoming Play at LTCC

Event Date:
January 7, 2014 - 7:00pm

The Theatre Department at Lake Tahoe Community College is seeking children and adults to cast in the award-winning play “Still Life With Iris” by Steven Dietz. Auditions will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Duke Theatre. Performances will be March 14-23, 2014.

Still Life with Iris is a fantastical adventure that centers on a young girl's search for the simplest of things: home. Iris lives with her mom in the land of Nocturno, a magical place where workers make, by night, all of the things we see in the world by day. The rulers of Nocturno, the Great Goods, are determined to have the "best" of everything on their island, and therefore take Iris away from her home and bring her to Great Island to be their daughter. Iris joins with friends she meets on her journey—Annabel Lee, a young woman from the sea, and Mozart (the composer, age 11)—and seeks to find her way back home.

For the roles of Iris, Hazel, Elmer, and Mozart, the department is seeking actors to play the ages of 10 to 11 years old. The character of Annabel Lee may be played by a teenager or young woman. Men and women of various ages and types are needed for the adult roles.

“We have the option of casting college-age students to play the kids’ roles, which is typical for plays like this,” says Susan Boulanger, Director of Theatre at LTCC. “But I really want to be able to give our local kids an opportunity. We have a lot of talented young actors in this community.”

Auditions will consist of readings from the play. Scripts are available on reserve in the LTCC Library, and audition sides and character breakdowns are available in the Theatre lobby. Actors are encouraged to read the script and pick up audition scenes before the campus closes for the holiday break December 19, as auditions will be held the day after the campus reopens in January. Opportunities to work in the scene shop building sets or to be a member of the backstage crew are also available.
