Winter Storm warning for Lake Tahoe: 6" to 12" on Sunday

3:20 p.m. update 12/13/15: Chains controls have expanded. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires from 9 miles east of Placerville to 3 miles east of Pollock Pines, then snow tires or chains until 5 miles east of Kyburz where it is chains or 4WD with snow tires to Meyers.
Chains or snow tires around the lake including Spooner Summit and Kingsbury Grade.
I80 is chains or 4WD with snow tires from Nyack to Truckee. Trucks are being screened at Applegate and Nevada State Line for maximum chains in possession and permit loads are prohibited.
California Highway Patrol has responded to a car off the roadway that wasn't equipped with either chains or snow tires.
At Heavenly Mountain: Due to strong winds, all lifts are closed for the day, with the exception of Stagecoach Express in Nevada.
Sierra-at-Tahoe is closed. Kirkwood is not reporting any closures.

A National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13.
The heaviest snow is anticipated between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with snowfall rates during that time of 2" to 3".
- Above 7,000 feet snow accumulations 10" to 18"
- Below 7,000 feet snow accumulations 6" to 10" with up to 14" possible west of Highway 89
Winds were strong over night with gusts up to 125 mph over the highest peaks. Winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected into early afternoon with gusts up to 55 mph.
With the wind, white out conditions are expected as are significant delays.

Today - Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 10am. Temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm. Windy, with a southwest wind 30 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
Tonight - Snow before 10pm, then a chance of snow showers, mainly between 10pm and 4am. Low around 17. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Monday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly between 10am and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. North wind around 5 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Monday Night - A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 10. Northeast wind around 5 mph.
