evacuations across Northern California. Firefighters are battling 22 large
wildfires that have burned nearly 170,000 acres. Firefighters are bracing for

to have died in the wildfires this week. 11 people alone died in the Tubbs Fire,
making it the 6th deadliest fire in our state’s history.

There was a new fire start on Tuesday across the river from Bridal Veil Falls in El Dorado County.
Dubbed the "Ice Fire" it is burning about two miles west of the Ice House Road/White Meadows Road intersection.
Multiple air tankers and helicopters worked the fire immediately. There were some voluntary evacuations in place but they have since been lifted.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 5 Mile Road to Carson Road in Camino: Eastbound motorists can expect the left turn lanes to be closed at 5 Mile Road, lower Carson Road and upper Carson Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 8 and Saturday October 14 for Apple Hill Season. Motorists will be directed to Exit 54/Cedar Grove to access Carson Road.

Woman dies in El Dorado County shooting; apparent murder-suicide attempt
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/05/2017 - 4:24pmA 28-year-old woman is dead and her fiance has been hospitalized after a shooting in Shingle Springs Wednesday evening.
On October 4, 2017 at approximately 5:47 p.m., deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded to multiple reports of a shooting near the intersection of Mother Lode Drive and Sunset Lane.
They discovered two people shot at the scene. One of them, Bay Area resident Jessica Lyn Ball, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male, who was later determined to be her fiance, suffered a single gunshot would and was transported to a local hospital.

El Dorado County reviewing their vacation rental ordinance

Tax Collector Cherie Raffety said during the meeting that the County wanted vacation homes to be a good neighbor instead of creating a situation that causes Sheriff's deputies to be called out for excessive noise. Management companies were to go to neighbors, introduce themselves and leave contact info.

Teen accused of killing family moved out of juvenile system in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/30/2017 - 12:27amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's been almost two years since Nolen Buchanan of Benicia, California first appeared in a Placerville courtroom as a 16-year-old, charged with the killing of his family in their El Dorado County vacation home and then setting it on fire.
The charred remains of Buchanan's father Adam, 38, his father's fiancée Molly McAffe, 37, and his 8-year-old brother, Gavin, were found in that Greenwood cabin on September 13, 2015.
Since that time, Nolen has been in the Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) in South Lake Tahoe.
Single vehicle rollover in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/29/2017 - 4:20pm10:00 p.m. update: One man is behind bars on suspicion of driving drunk and causing bodily injury, a felony charge.
South Lake Tahoe resident Luis Lopez-Mora, 23, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after he was released from Barton Hospital Friday evening.
As reported earlier, a call went into law enforcement about a person driving erratically on Pioneer Trail. Shortly after that call, the truck Lopez-Mora was driving failed to safely navigate a curve and his truck left the pavement and rolled down an embankment, landing on its wheels.

Cash on walls turns into over $3500 to stock fish at Sawmill Pond

One day, local business owner was at Brother's having breakfast when he noticed all of the money was gone. He found out from owner Spencer Weiss that he had taken it all down and was now inside threes large garbage bag.
"It consumed the whole place," Weiss said of the cash over every inch of space. "It diminished the feel."

Washington killer 'person of interest' in 1973 murder near Kyburz

McLaughlin was a University of California Berkeley student who had taken a bus from campus to her parents’ home in El Dorado County, California.
The new leads about the man who might have been responsible for her death – Bryan Lee Gelenaw -- were filed as part of a search warrant in King County Superior Court this week.

El Dorado County assessed home values up $1.7B

all taxable property in El Dorado County increased by almost six percent from last year. The $31.5 billion property tax roll, which reflects the assessed value as of January 1st, 2017 is approximately $1.7 billion above last year’s assessed value of $29.8 billion.
The $31.5 billion dollar roll generates about $315 million in property taxes every year that support schools, public safety, local districts, cities and County government services.

Fire burning south of Shingle Springs
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/17/2017 - 8:07pmFirefighters are making good progress on The French Fire, which has burned 120 acres off French Creek Road, south of Shingle Springs in El Dorado County.
As of 7:00 p.m. September 17, the fire was 20 percent contained.
The fire burned quickly through a cattle ranch after starting Sunday afternoon.
According to CalFire, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Season winding down for El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/13/2017 - 1:23pmBeginning on Monday, September 18, 2017, the El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp at Lakeview Commons will be closed Monday through Wednesday, and open Thursday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The last launch will be at 4:30 p.m.
The last day of Boat Ramp operations will be Sunday, October 1, 2017.
The maximum boat length is 23 feet. The boat length is subject to change due to water levels. The boat ramp passes under Lakeview Avenue, with a maximum 12 foot clearance.

A small community faces many of the same risks as do urban centers, and, according to a recent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicides in rural areas are on the rise.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is teaming up with the Family Resource Center to present Suicide Prevention Awareness and Mental Health 101" entirely in Spanish on Tuesday, September 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death in the Unites States among ages 15-34 and third leading cause of death for those ages 10-14. Four our of every five that die by suicide are male.
"Our hearts go out to the family's who lost loved ones to suicide in the Latino Community this past quarter," said Jeanne Nelson of NAMI-El Dorado.

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted the event which had live music, free BBQ and ice cream and a thank-you card making station.
Kids were able climb on board fire trucks, meet the new Search & Rescue puppy and get to know those who protect them on a daily basis.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/07/2017 - 8:57pmAlmost five years after a 15-year-old El Dorado High School student died after ingesting a designer drug, a Camino man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his death.
Elijah Lee Richter, 26, is charged with knowingly and intentionally distributing 25i-nBOME, the drug that killed Alejandro Nunez Avila in a Pollock Pines home on on September 8, 2012.
Richter had been arrested at the time with Jesse Howard Roberts, then 21. Roberts has already convicted in the case and sentenced to six years. He currently is listed as being an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, Calif.

Gordon "Gord" Yorke, 56, missed a scheduled food drop for the second day in a row and Search and Rescue (SAR) teams were called out to locate him.

Each year, more people die from suicide than war, homicide, and natural disasters combined.
The good news is that suicide can be prevented if the signs are detected and the right actions are taken.
