Suspected arrested for murder of El Dorado County man

5/12 Update: The victim in this homicide has been identified as 43-year-old David Franklin Meade, a resident of El Dorado. Meade and suspect Eriksen were known acquaintances and this was not a random incident.

The investigation lead El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies to a home located on Lindberg Avenue in Placerville where they suspected Eriksen was hiding. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was deployed to the residence to take Eriksen into custody. Officers closed surrounding streets after the suspect barricaded himself in the home.

Jasper the bear dies after being shot; Sheriff responds to shooting

Jasper, the bear shot by a deputy in Incline Village on Saturday has died as a result of her injuries.

"I am saddened to hear of the passing of the bear from yesterday's incident in Incline Village involving one of our deputies," said Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen. "We appreciate the efforts made by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The Sheriff's Office will thoroughly review the incident and take whatever measures are deemed appropriate."

DCSO Explorers bring home 13 trophies from competition

gave an outstanding performance this past weekend during the Central Coast Law Enforcement Exploring Competition in Tulare, Calif. They competed against 21 other police, sheriff and highway patrol posts in 19 different scenarios including felony car stops, shooting skills, written exams, oral interviews, suspicious persons and physical agility.

DCSO Explorers won 13 trophies including second place overall for the entire competition.

Reno man charged in threats against Carson City judge after matching DNA confirmed

The man believed to be responsible for shooting at and attempting to firebomb the home of a Carson City judge and sending him a threatening Christmas card in the mail has been formally charged for the crimes, officials announced Tuesday.

Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury announced Reno area resident Jason Aston, 74, is charged with fourth-degree arson, aggravated stalking and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. His bail is set at $250,000 cash.

Two hospitalized after Douglas County shooting

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) acknowledged Tuesday that it had erroneously reported that a man had died from a shooting at Topaz Ranch Estates in south Douglas County.

At 6:46 p.m. Monday, March 20, DCSO deputies responded to 1205 Slate Road where they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, Michael Dixon, 50, was taken by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno with life-threatening injuries.

Also found at the scene was 60-year-old Cathy Clark. She was transported to Renown with a gunshot wound.

Man killed in North Lake Tahoe officer-involved shooting identified

The victim in an officer-involved shooting in North Lake Tahoe has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Gonzales Lera from Lakewood, Colorado.

Lera took a female hostage at gunpoint and was eventually shot and killed by Placer County Sheriff's deputies early Friday morning.

Officer involved shooting closes SR89 near Squaw Valley/Alpine

The Placer County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 3:00 a.m. Friday near North Lake Tahoe.

At around 1:40 a.m., deputies and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers attempted to pull over a suspected DUI driver, who was driving dangerously and erratically on Highway 28. The pursuit was terminated a few minutes later.

At 2:45 a.m., a deputy saw the car on Highway 28, near Dollar Hill, again driving erratically, and attempted to pull him over. The male driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began.

Police make arrest in South Lake Tahoe drive by shooting

Kevin Gonzales, an 18-year-old local man, has been arrested in connection with a drive by shooting that occurred on December 28 at the Pioneer Inn in South Lake Tahoe.

Gonzales was arrested two days later after an investigation by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was launched into the shooting which took place at 10:00 p.m. at the motel, located on Pioneer Trail.

Suspects being questioned in South Lake Tahoe drive-by shooting

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is investigating a possible gang related drive-by shooting at the Pioneer Inn Thursday night at 10:00 p.m.

There were no injuries and, as of Friday afternoon, there have been no arrests.

Responding SLTPD officers immediately started looking for the suspect vehicle, described as a dark pick-up truck. While law enforcement searched for the truck, others were at the motel, which is located at 3863 Pioneer Trail, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Curtis Ray Amacker 7/23/59 - 12/25/16

Curt Amacker, 57, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.

Born July 23, 1959, in Carson City, Nevada, Curt lived in South Lake Tahoe his entire life, other than a short time spent attending tech school in Phoenix, Arizona.

Curt was an avid outdoorsman who loved the mountains, riding ATVs and Snowmobiles, shooting his prized firearms, and sitting around a bonfire visiting with his friends and family.

Felons arrested for shooting guns in Meyers

Four visitors to the South Shore were arrested by El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies on Friday night after they were caught shooting firearms on U.S. Forest Service land behind Tahoe Paradise Golf Course in Meyers.

On December 16, deputies responded to a call of shooting about 100 yards from the end of Lost Lane. Upon arrival they found four men, Alexander, Keoseng, Johlany and Yao Saechao with guns. Alexander and Keoseng are convicted felons from Stockton, Calif., and are prohibited from possessing firearms. All four were arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail.

SLTPD aiding in investigation of man involved in twenty-hour standoff in Cameron Park

A heavily armed 37-year-old man was shot early Friday morning after keeping law enforcement personnel at bay for twenty hours in Cameron Park.

A 911 call about a possible domestic violence situation in an apartment on La Canada Drive was received by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office dispatch at 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, November 17. According to the reporting party, there was an armed man holding a woman and her baby against their will inside the apartment.

South Lake Tahoe police shooting center of appellate court hearing at UC Davis

The 3rd District Court of Appeal panel is taking their courtroom on the road October 26 when they hold appellate court hearings in front of UC Davis law students. One of the two cases they'll hear concerns a disagreement between the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department on how to investigate a fatal shooting by an officer.

South Lake Tahoe home suffers major damage in early morning fire

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to an early morning fire Sunday in the Stateline neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe.

At 2:00 a.m., crews from SLTFR and Lake Valley Fire responded to 1049 Chonokis Street to find flames shooting from the unoccupied home.

Damage is estimated at $150,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Squirrel hunter accidentally shoots and kills wife in El Dorado County

A Sacramento man out squirrel hunting with his wife on Monday accidentally shot and killed her.

Lee Lao called 911 about 5:15 p.m. to report that he shot his wife, Mee Vang, while squirrel hunting in the 10500 block of Wentworth Springs Road in Stumpy Meadows, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies and emergency personnel arrived and Lao led them to Vang’s location where it was confirmed she had succumbed to her injuries.

Lao was detained and has been cooperating in the investigation. He was released without criminal charges, at this time.

Lani Anderson 1939 - 2016

Leilani (Lani) Mock Anderson died peacefully on September 12, 2016 at the age of 77. She was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1939 to Henry Mock of Waipio Valley, Hawaii and Mary Jane Brashier Mock Shirley of Pennsylvania. She had one sister Jane Rowe Ronca who lives in Arizona.

Washoe County Deputy credited for saving life of suicidal inmate

When an inmate attempted to take his life earlier this year by throwing himself over a balcony with a makeshift rope around his neck, Detention Facility Deputy Michel Eubanks literally flew to the rescue, bounding up the stairs to make the rescue with the help of three inmate work crew members.

2,000 customers affected by early morning power outage in South Lake Tahoe

At 8:23 a.m. Tuesday morning, 2,000 customers of Liberty Utilities in the Al Tahoe area of South Lake Tahoe lost power due to a circuit issue. Trouble shooting crews went out to investigate, rebooted the system and all power was restored by 9:17 a.m.

Some El Dorado County Court cases were postponed, but court resumed as soon as power was restored and the rest of the court day was uneventful. Neighboring buildings experienced much of the same.

This outage serves as a reminder that all residents can use from their smart phones if they have no power, or from their home computers.

Anniversary of 2011 IHOP shooting remembered with run

Runners and walkers gathered at IHOP in Carson City early Tuesday morning to commemorate the victims of the IHOP mass shooting that happened five years ago today in Carson City.

On Sept. 6, 2011, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and civilian Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, of South Lake Tahoe, were killed in the shooting rampage, in which a mentally ill gunman took his own life. Two other soldiers and seven patrons were injured.

"Shooting Fire" in Carson City burns 252 acres, now 80% contained

UPDATE 11AM 8/15: The Shooting Fire is now 80 percent contained and remains non-threatening to structures with a total of 252 acres burned, SFIDC spokeswoman Shannon Brophy said.

UPDATE 8PM: The Shooting Fire is 40 percent contained with eyes on all fire lines from multiple fire agencies, said Carson City Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Belt. Mapping has the fire size to be between 200 to 300 acres, she said. Several fire crews will remain on scene to close the containment gap.

Countdown to American Century Championship:"The fans are great!"

In just over a week, the eyes of sports fans will be on Lake Tahoe as the 27th annual American Century Golf Championship opens at Edgewood Tahoe. The field of 86 celebrities from sports, television, music, stage, screen, politics, Nascar, and the US Marine Corps are all headed to the South Shore July 19-24 to play.

"The golfers anticipate getting the invitation letter to play," said Former NFL Head Coach and ESPN Analyst Herm Edwards. "We get excited at that moment."

Reno police officer shoots man driving van towards pedestian filled street

A driver of a minivan that was headed to a closed Reno Street full of pedestrians on Saturday was shot and killed by a police officer on foot.

The incident began at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 3 when a Reno Police Department Motor Unit attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver minivan in the area on Kuenzli Street and E. 2nd Street. The minivan failed to yield, proceeding west toward downtown Reno.

One arrested after South Lake Tahoe woman shot during argument

9:00 a.m. update 6/27: Michael Anderson, 48, was arrested for felony domestic violence and for discharging a firearm in an inhabited dwelling. His 57-year-old girlfriend was taken to Barton Hospital last night with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. According to Lt. Brian Williams of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, her condition is unknown at this time, but it doesn't appear to be life-threatening.

She was able to speak to police Sunday night. Both parties told SLTPD detectives they were wrestling over a gun during an argument and "the gun went off."

Douglas County deputies cleared in shooting death of Gardnerville man

All six deputies involved in the July 2015 shooting of Mark Perkins have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing according to the Douglas County District Attorney, Mark Jackson.

At 2:00 p.m. on July 30, Douglas County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Gardnerville Ranchos after receiving a call saying the 48-year-old Perkins was armed with multiple weapons and had threatened his wife and told her he was going to shoot a police officer and kill a neighbor.

South Lake Tahoe murder suspect arrested in Texas

Domenic Seanlee Randolph, a suspect in the murder of Dennis Wright, Jr. at a South Lake Tahoe motel, was arrested Tuesday in Texas.

The 22-year-old-Randolph is the third suspect arrested for the January 30, 2016 shooting death of Wright, who allegedly brought 100 pounds of marijuana to the Beverly Lodge to sell. He was shot and killed in the motel's parking lot during an apparent robbery attempt.

Douglas County man jailed for domestic battery and firing gun inside home

A 57-year-old Douglas County man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of domestic battery and shooting multiple rounds from a firearm inside his home.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriffs Office responded to a call of domestic dispute with shots fired at the 3400 block of Tourmaline, south of Carson City at 4:00 a.m. on April 6. When they arrived they heard additional gun fire coming from the residence.

Soon after, Daniel Vanhooser came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Judge hands down sentence to man who killed bear in South Lake Tahoe

"These are always tough cases," said El Dorado County Judge Suzanne Kingsbury Friday as she handed down an unexpected sentence to the 78-year-old man who killed a bear near his South Lake Tahoe home on July 10, 2015.

Gilbert Alan Wetenkamp pleaded no contest on March 11, 2016 to the misdemeanor charge of unlawfully taking of a bear.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief: Updates on crime, cleanup and murder case

Great news! Compared to last year, our violent crime rate is down 41% (from 112 occurrences in 2014 to 66 in 2015). The news is not all good. Our property crime rate is up 6% (from 516 in 2014 to 548 in 2015). This was not unexpected as we reported on a significant upward trend in property crime 6 months ago. Total crime is down 2.2% over last year.

Timothy Roger Stoll June 16,1938- February 12, 2016

Dr. Timothy Stoll died suddenly of galloping pneumonia on February 12, 2016 at the age of 77.

Dr. Stoll, an icon of the Tahoe area, practiced dentistry for over 50 years in both South Lake Tahoe and Minden.

Two arrests made in South Lake Tahoe murder; More expected

Two men are behind bars after being arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting death of Dennis Wright, Jr. in South Lake Tahoe on January 30, 2016.

South Lake Tahoe investigation leads to Georgetown drug bust

An investigation into the sales of drugs surrounding the murder of Dennis Wright, Jr. in South Lake Tahoe last month led the El Dorado County Sheriff SWAT team to Georgetown, Calif., on February 2, 2016 where they arrested 33-year-old Teveraz Lopez on drug charges.

Two separate investigations are currently ongoing surrounding the death of Wright, both a homicide investigation and a narcotics investigation according to EDSO Lt. Jim Byers.

Two men sought in South Lake Tahoe murder

Investigators from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department are looking for two suspects in Saturday night's murder of 40-year-old Dennis Wright, Jr. at the Beverly Lodge. According to SLTPD, Wright and his girlfriend came to South Lake Tahoe from their home in Amador County to sell 100 pounds of marijuana from a room at the motelnwhich is located on Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Man shot and killed at South Lake Tahoe motel

A man was shot and killed at the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night. At about 7:42 p.m. on January 30, 2016, several people called 911 to report shots being fired at the motel which is located at 34780 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded immediately as did an EMS unit from the fire department. Upon arrival they found a man who had been shot, lying on the ground outside one of the rooms at the motel. He was transported to Barton Hospital where he died within a few minutes of arrival.

"Manly man's" barbershop opens up in South Lake Tahoe

The barbershop is making a comeback, something the clients at Beau's Barbershop in South Lake Tahoe are happy about.

"Barbering is a lost art," said Beau Baker, the shop's owner. "But, barbers are making a comeback."

"I just got the best haircut of my life from a new barber in town," said South Tahoe High Athletic Director Tony Sunzeri. "It's an old school barbershop with new school flavor."

Three in custody in connection with fatal Carson City shooting

UPDATE 2:00 p.m. - Three young adults were taken into custody Monday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of a young man over a marijuana deal near a park in north Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The three — two men and a woman — were arrested without incident by Carson City SWAT at an apartment complex on Fifth Street near Harbin Street. The three came out following demands by SWAT to surrender after investigators learned they had been hiding inside a residence.

Gardnerville man arrested on domestic battery and child abuse charges

A Douglas County man is in jail this morning after allegedly battering his wife and strangling her, shooting off a gun inside their home and resisting arrest on Monday, January 5, 2016.

At 11:10 p.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a home in the 1300 block of Banner Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos neighborhood. A woman had called, saying she had been battered and strangled by her husband.

South Lake Tahoe drive-by shooting suspect arrested on multiple felony charges

The hunt is over for the suspect in the October 14 drive-by shooting in South Lake Tahoe that sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital.

Samuel Tovar, 43, was arrested after a high-risk search warrant was served at 816 San Francisco Avenue at 10 p.m. Friday, October 4. Inside they found Tovar, who had been avoiding law enforcement since the shooting.

Reno coach jailed after firing weapon at student

Reno Police arrested a basketball coach Thursday for allegedly firing a weapon at a juvenile near Fred W. Traner Middle School, hitting a house in the process.

Lt. Scott Shaw said police responded to a call of destruction of property and gunfire around 6:30 p.m.

Omarri Calvin Jeron Williams, 25, was coaching basketball at the school on Carville Drive in central Reno. His car was parked out front when somebody informed him his windows were being broken.
