Leadership Lake Tahoe deadline extended

Tahoe Chamber has extended the application deadline for the 2021-2022 Leadership Lake Tahoe program. If you are interested in this year’s class, you have
an extra week to submit your application by Friday, June 11.

Sessions will run from September 2021 through June 2022 with participants meeting once a month and focusing on key community topics. For more information and to complete the application, visit tahoechamber.org/leadershiplaketahoe.

Tahoe Paradise Park holds "Return to Paradise" this Saturday

Matching funds sought by Tahoe Fund for new singletrack trail at Tunnel Creek

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The loose, sandy descent at the end of the iconic Flume Trail has long been an issue for mountain bikers and hikers alike. Riders have been known to go over their handlebars due to the deep sand, and conflicts between user groups descending Tunnel Creek from the Flume Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail are increasing in frequency.

Registration open for Tahoe Youth & Family Services' Carson Valley Days 5K run

Dust off those shoes and join the Tahoe Youth & Family Services Carson Valley Days 5k run-jog-walk on Saturday, June 12 at the beginning of the annual parade, the perfect time to have fun, wear a costume, and support a worthy cause. Limited edition Between Horses and Humans apparel to raise funds for valuable program

Between Horses and Humans, the local non-profit that connects children with horses as a form of rehabilitation is fundraising through the sale of its logo clothing.

Youth treated to free tennis clinic offered by Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation's popular annual free tennis clinic was once again a huge success.

Barton Foundation's COVID-19 respond fund provides over $420,000 in food assistance

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Barton Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund was started in March 2020 to assist local families and individuals facing food insecurity challenges brought on by the pandemic.

The fund has resulted in over $420,000 in donations to over 6,000 residents through the South Lake Tahoe and Stateline area.

Boys and Girls Club receives donation for new building from Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra has donated $1000 from their Meat Raffle fundraiser to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe's (BGCLT) "Building Bright Futures” project.

Unable to have its usual in-person fundraiser, the Kiwanis Club teamed up with Overland Meat & Seafood Co. during the pandemic and raffled off a Family Pack of meat and seafood. Proceeds from the raffle went to the building fund.

Lake Tahoe Mindfulness Community hosting large, multi-family yard sale

South Lake Tahoe area blood drives making it easy to donate

There are a few opportunities to donate blood in the South Lake Tahoe and Stateline area over the next two months.

Friday, May 14: Vitalent will be in the South Lake Tahoe community blood drive on Friday, May 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Gym, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. Donors will receive a $5 Amazon gift card which is redeemable via email.

There is no deferral if you’ve received a COVID-19 vaccine. Vitalant will be testing all donations for COVID-19 antibodies.

Drive-through Day of the Young Child in South Lake Tahoe

Every child from toddler age through school-age will receive an activity bag from Catalyst Community as they drive through the event with fun activities for school-age children. The following groups will have a set up along a special route for the kids to enjoy while they stay in their vehicles:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is teaming with the American Legion Post 795 and Boy Scout Troop 594 in conducting a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day, June 14. The ceremony will be held at the American Legion on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

If you have a US flag that is worn and cannot be flown, please contact the Lake Tahoe Chapter, NSDAR Regent Rosemary Manning at rosemarymanning@gmail.com and the group can pick it up. You can also drop off the flag at the American Legion Post 795, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Long awaited $5 Dump Day on June 12 in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Clean Tahoe is holding the first of two $5 Dump Days this year on Saturday, June 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The cost of $5 per vehicle load is for California residents. For Nevada residents, the cost is $10 per vehicle. U-Hauls and oversized trucks will be extra and priced by size.

All mattresses, box springs, televisions, computers, and is free. Refrigerators are $20.

The on-side document shredding is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and provided by the Eagle Project. The limit is 3 boxes per household.

“May the 4th” Tahoe Truckee Humane Society adoption day and donation drive

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is hosting a donation drive and adoption event Tuesday, May 4 in honor of “Star Wars Day.” There will be $30,000 available to match donations, meaning that the generosity of the community will go twice as far to help animals in need.

Volunteers needed for Snapshot Day

Snapshot Day is a citizen science water quality monitoring event that takes place every May with the goal of connecting the community with its watershed.

On the morning of Saturday, May 15, volunteers will fan out across the Truckee River Watershed to take water samples from creeks, streams, and smaller lakes, as well as Lake Tahoe itself, to get a snapshot of water quality in the Tahoe-Truckee watershed at a single moment in time.

Sierra State Parks Foundation brings back Bear Box Art fundraiser

The Sierra State Parks Foundation is bringing back the Bear Box Art Fundraiser to North Lake Tahoe. This fundraiser joins the non-profit with local artists with the goal of raising funds while supporting a trifecta: California State Parks, local artists and beautifying Lake Tahoe one bear box at a time.

Go Fund Me account started for family of South Tahoe High student

A funeral was held Friday for Brianna Murillo, a student at South Tahoe High School. A fundraiser has been set up to help the family to help with funeral expenses and support during this difficult time.

Brianna's mother is a classroom aide at South Tahoe Middle School.

Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 seeks new members and contributions

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif., - The Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 in South Lake Tahoe has re-opened for business. Members and their guests are welcome once again and community events, including the annual Farmer’s Market, will resume this season. Post 795 has proudly served the Lake Tahoe community for 75 years but has struggled to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic as so many other small businesses have, and they are looking for help from the Lake Tahoe Community.

Enchanted Florist donating portion of Mother's Day sales to Between Horses and Humans

Remember mom with flowers on Mother's Day and bring a smile to her face while also supporting Between Horses and Humans. Enchanted Florist of South Lake Tahoe is donating five percent of all Mother's Day sales from May 7-9 to the nonprofit that empowers children while building their leadership skills and self-esteem through horses.

“We are proud to have a local business help support this much-needed program,” said Laura Maffitt, a volunteer at Between Horses and Humans. “Words cannot describe how the impact of this program has made a difference in so many young lives."

May 1 is the Kentucky Derby so grab those Derby Hats and enjoy Mint Juleps as the running of the 147th derby.

Live music is from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from the One Way Street Band. The race starts at 3:57 p.m. but enjoy the day's festivities at AleWorx while supporting students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. One hundred percent of the profits from the event go to the Foundation.

New executive director for Child Advocates of El Dorado County

Child Advocates of El Dorado County’s Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Deanna Santana as its new executive director. Deanna brings a wealth of strategic communication and leadership experience, along with a passion for protecting the youth in our communities.

Cheers for Charity at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe raising funds for Bread & Broth

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe invites guests to enjoy "Cheers for Charity" every Sunday in May. The casino's first open bar event will feature complimentary select cocktails and a live DJ at the Center Bar from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Donations will be collected all month to benefit Bread and Broth, the South Lake Tahoe nonprofit whose mission is to ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community.

Drinks are free, but donations are always welcome.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary awards gift cards to first responders and teachers

The Rotary Club of Tahoe Douglas recently purchased and awarded more than $7,000 of the Tahoe Chamber Go Local gift cards as a way of saying thank you to local first responders and teachers for their service during the pandemic.

The club purchased 150 of the $50 denomination cards and distributed them to all local Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies, Tahoe Douglas Fire personnel, and the teaching and support staff of both Whittell High and Zephyr Cove Elementary school.

Barton Foundation to give $100,000 in grants to local nonprofits addressing unmet health needs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Barton Foundation will be issuing $100,000 in grants to nonprofits in the community who work with those facing hunger, mental health, and unmet health needs.

The results of the Community Health Needs Assessment determine the areas their funds will support. Mental Health, Substance Use and Access to Care rank highest among a long list of concerns in the Lake Tahoe region. The Barton Foundation awards grants to non-profit organizations that provide support for members of the community who face these issues.

Humane Society's 2nd annual Trails for Tails Virtual Run

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT), the nonprofit agency that helps animals from Truckee to South Lake Tahoe, is holding an eight-week fundraiser to help people meet fitness goals while helping them meet fundraising goals.

Starting May 10 the public can help them with their goal of $20,000.

It's only $25 to join and it's easy to track your progress using your phone, pedometer or smartwatch to count your steps. If wearing a device isn't your thing, you can manually enter miles run, steps taken or amount and type of exercises you've done.

Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra celebrates 20th anniversary

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra celebrated its 20th anniversary of being a service club in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, April 18, 2021.

The South Lake Tahoe Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1632, assisted with the celebration by allowing the Tahoe Sierra Kiwanians use of their Eloise Avenue facility to welcome members, past members and guests. A small group of 18 showed up on a beautiful South Lake Tahoe spring day to introduce former ‘Charter’ members to the current membership.

Unique sponsorship at Douglas County Senior Center - Family restroom naming rights

The Douglas County Community Services Foundation (DCCSF) has created a fun and humorous fundraising program over the past three years to help provide funding for the Douglas County Senior Center. A naming rights sponsorship for the two family restrooms in the Senior Center has been initiated with signage prominently displaying a lucky recipient’s name over the bathroom doors. What better way to honor someone or some organization, than to have their name showcased for a year above these much-used doors.

Friends of the Library temporarily suspends donations of books

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library appreciate book donations from the community they cannot accept them at this time. The group of volunteers is unable to process and store books as spaces used for storage and offices undergo mitigation.

The public spaces in the library are open and well ventilated and all services are available, but please do not bring in book donations as staff cannot accept them. Enjoy browsing their excellent collection and be especially kind to their talented and hard-working staff whose work space has been relocated.
