On July 18th 15 of some of the world’s most legendary athletes and entertainers competed in Lake Tahoe for the Korbel Closest-to-the-Pin Challenge as part of the American Century Championship, currently being played at the Edgewood Golf Course. NFL Former Pro Bowl Quarterback Mark Rypien who was the inaugural tournament champion took home the title after teeing off from Hole 17 and placing his ball just seven feet away from the pin winning a $5,000 donation for The Tahoe Fund from the Korbel Toast Life® Foundation.

Autographed golf bags to be auctioned during Celebrity Golf Week for charity

Celebrities competing in the 25th American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe next week will be autographing golf bags for charity. Vessel and the ACC have teamed up to raise money by auctioning off the bags through online and text bidding.

Nevada Highway Patrol to Take Part in "Tip a Cop" Day at Lake Tahoe's Hard Rock Cafe

Several Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety, will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Hard Rock Café in Stateline between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and between 5 p.m and 9 p.m.

The NHP and DPS will be assisting the wait staff as they serve patrons in order to earn "special tips."

Military Set to Receive Free Tickets to American Century Celebrity Golf

All active duty, reservists, National Guard and veterans will receive complimentary tickets to the 25th Annual American Celebrity Golf Championship in South Lake Tahoe July 15-20.

Holiday Pet Food Drive at Coldwell Banker Select in Zephyr Cove A Huge Success

On December 28th, Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate in Zephyr Cove decided to give back to the pets in the community by hosting a Holiday Pet Food Drive, yielding big results. Leading up to the 28th, close to 600 lbs of dog and cat food were donated to pets in need. In addition, many pet toys and other items were donated, on top of $170 in check donation.

A Time of Giving: STAR Spreads Good Cheer

The South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) has spent the last several months spreading good cheer to local non-profits. They gave Christmas Cheer All Year $5,000 prior to the holidays and have now given both Tahoe Youth and Family Services and Live Violence Free $5,000.

Incline Village Resident Wins Trip to Super Bowl

Sometimes surprises come at the right time. Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM) on Thursday, January 16 at the Riva Grill from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Attendees will enjoy delicious delicacies and libations served up by the Riva Grill while supporting a great cause.

American Century Golf Championship Distributes Over $145,000 to Local Non-Profits

Twenty-eight area nonprofits were awarded $85,000 in donations from the 2013 American Century Championship. In a ceremony on Thursday, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority distributed the checks through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.

Dog Agility Park Opening Celebrated by Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The City of South Lake Tahoe and the South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association (SLTPCA) worked in partnership to install several pieces of custom dog agility equipment at Bijou Park. South Lake Tahoe Firefighters participated and raised $6,000 in the second annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation event in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, March 8. The St. Baldrick’s foundation was formed in 2005 and surpassed $100 million in donations last year for childhood cancer research across the nation. The holidays will be a little brighter for more than 100 underprivileged local children/teenagers thanks to Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) raising $5,000 at the organization’s 2nd Annual Winter White Holiday Party.

The Young Professions organized a holiday ‘FUN’draiser to benefit Tahoe’s SkiDUCK, (SKi and snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids) at Riva Grill last month which included an evening of live music, raffle prizes, silent auction items, photo booth, games, food and drinks.

Reno news television station KRNV MyNews4.com has learned the alleged South Lake Tahoe bribery case involving a former pot club owner might be connected to a local education charity which City Councilmember Angela Swanson is a member of.
The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office still hasn't said what the alleged bribe by Gino DiMatteo was or who it went to, but over the past few days News 4's Fact Finder team has nailed down that Swanson is at the center of the investigation and that it has confirmed a time frame when it might have happened.

UNR archeologist leads Virginia City hospital excavation team

The University of Nevada, Reno, in cooperation with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, has sent a team of archaeologists to excavate the site of one of Nevada’s most important early hospitals. St. Mary Louise Hospital in Virginia City opened in 1876 and served the mining community until the early 20th century.
