CHP works to keep SR88 safe as vehicles park illegally when heading to Kirkwood
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/10/2022 - 10:44amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The slopes around Lake Tahoe have been full this ski season, especially with Sierra-at-Tahoe closed due to extensive damage from the Caldor Fire. with crowded slopes come crowded parking lots, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is addressing those parking illegally on SR88 near Kirkwood.
On Saturday, March 5, officers from the CHP South Lake Tahoe Office found several cars parked illegally - cars over the white line and in the lane of travel in a notoriously dangerous area called "icebox" due to the icy conditions.

March is Women’s History Month, which celebrates women’s contributions to history, culture, and society. Each year the club holds its awards celebration as close to International Women’s Day, March 8, as possible. March also marked the club’s anniversary, and this year marks 45 years since the club was formed.
Lake Wind Advisory and cooler temperatures Thursday, warming again for weekend
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/10/2022 - 12:10amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An inside slider-type system will bring snow showers, gusty northerly winds, and a brief period of colder temperatures through Thursday. A Lake Wind Advisory is in place from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10.
Expect northerly wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph at times for valleys on Thursday, with gusts over exposed ridges along the Sierra crest up to 100 mph. Hazardous boating conditions, aviation, and ski impacts, and concerns for high-profile vehicles will continue through Thursday.
City working with Sunray Hotel ownership to have numerous code violations fixed
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/09/2022 - 10:25pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Police, fire, code enforcement, building inspectors, and housing staff spent the afternoon Tuesday at the Sunray Hotel in South Lake Tahoe after a meeting had been set up by the City to address numerous complaints at the property with the owner.
While they were there, smoke was detected in a room and the fire department responded to extinguish a fire in one of the rooms.

Douglas County commissioners seek requests for ARPA Funding

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy Bellisario, sons Scott and Brian, daughter-in-law Arnan Bains, his much-loved sister, Sharon Hossli, his 99-year-old mother-in-law, Lois Schuette, and many nieces and nephews.

Lake Tahoe right-turn restriction pilot program approved for 2022 on US50
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/08/2022 - 11:39amEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Last year's right-turn restriction pilot program created to mitigate impacts of vehicular traffic in neighborhoods instead of the highway will be extended in 2022.
With a unanimous vote Tuesday, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors approved the turn restrictions from North Upper Truckee Road and Sawmill Road on Sundays and holidays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The right-turn restrictions will be in place starting between May 1 and May 21, 2022, and terminating on Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/07/2022 - 7:11pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors have on their agenda Tuesday a resolution to have temporary right-turn restrictions this summer from North Upper Truckee Road and Sawmill Road onto US 50 on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If approved, the new turn restrictions will begin between May 1 and May 21, 2022, and terminate on Sunday, October 30, 2022. All turn restriction-related traffic control regulatory and advisory signs on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, Sawmill Road, and North Upper Truckee Road would be removed before Sunday, November 6th, 2022.

These prescribed fires are expected to continue throughout the winter season to help land managers reduce hazardous fuels that can feed unwanted wildfires. Smoke will be present.

After spending his early years of life in an orphanage, he was adopted and loved by his family until his passing on February 28, 2022. Dennis charmed everyone who had the pleasure of being in his presence with his endearing smile and infectious laughter. He was always bothered by being the shortest of the group, but what he lacked in stature, he made up for in personality.

Some Lake Tahoe ski areas announce extension of ski and ride season

Heavenly will remain open an extra week, until Sunday, April 24, and Kirkwood will add three weeks to its calendar, ending the season on Sunday, May 1, weather and snow conditions permitting.
Palisades will end winter operations on Sunday, May 16, conditions permitting. There will be special spring skiing hours of operation.
Northstar is slated to end its season on Monday, April 18.

A quick-moving weather slider system will bring breezy winds, a low chance for rain and snow showers, and a cool down Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. The weekend looks warm and dry with the potential to shift to a more active weather pattern next week.

South Lake Tahoe City Council votes to not collect $382,500 in small business loans
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/06/2022 - 4:04pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During the pandemic, the South Lake Tahoe City Council issued $382,500 in small business loans to 53 businesses through its Small Business Sustainability (SBS) Loan Program. The loans issued were between $3,000 and $15,000 (one at $3,000, one at $4,500, 33 at $5,000, 12 at $10,000 and six at $15,000). Two more loans applications totaling $25,000 were rejected.
During the Council meeting this week, they voted 3-1 to forgive the loan balances and instead make them a grant.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigating THC gummy bears at middle school
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/04/2022 - 3:37pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) opened an investigation on Thursday, March 3 after a 12-year-old middle school student reported feeling "very strange."
It has been determined that the student, along with a number of other students at the middle school in the Carson Valley, had ingested gummy bears that were actually marijuana edibles that contain THC (the psychoactive drug in marijuana). The students got the marijuana edibles from another student who stole them from her father and brought them to school.

In this 8-week group fitness series, develop your golf-specific performance with flexibility, stability, balance, coordination, and muscular endurance training. The course is led by Kyler Crouse, Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Barton Performance Coach.

Rock on US50 blasted, clean up underway

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The massive rock that fell onto US50 at Echo Summit Thursday evening was blown up this morning at 10:00 a.m. and the resulting debris is now being cleaned off.
The large boulder, at first estimated to be two stories high, three stories wide, was filled with blasting tubes overnight before the "fire in the hole" was called out prior to detonation.
"We are fortunate in that our South Lake Tahoe Maintenance crew is trained in boulder blasting," said Caltrans.

South Tahoe High Varsity Girls Basketball team wraps up great season

Starting with winning a tournament at Western Sierra Collegiate Academy in Rocklin, the girls' varsity team finished as co-champs of Northern Nevada 3A West division for the first time since 1990.
Massive boulder falls onto both lanes of US50 on Echo Summit
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/03/2022 - 6:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Both lanes of US50 over Echo Summit are closed this evening after a massive section of rock fell onto the roadway.
Emergency personnel responded at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 after calls received about rock the "size of a semi," were received by the dispatch center.
Caltrans and CHP are at the scene and signage on the highway is alerting motorists the road is closed.
It is unknown at this time how long it will take to remove the rock. Other routes are open to travel across the Sierra. Visit https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for all information.
