The venerable 4Runner is still going strong, for better or worse.

The 2021 Toyota 4Runner is one of the oldest new cars you can buy brand new today. I say oldest because the strong fact remains that the 4Runner's largely unchanged and is still fundamentally the same species from the mid-2000s. Sure, it's a new car, but underneath that timeless shape is a relic. However, as much as an all-new model would be beneficial, the underlying charms are still there to give the 4Runner its glowing greatest strength: it's cool. Coolness can only go so far though.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2021 St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) summer program begins June 23 and will continue every Wednesday through August 25 in South Lake Tahoe.

Food will be distributed at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church- Grace Hall at 1041 Lyons Avenue from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Any child up to the age of 18 can come alone or with a parent or legal guardian to pick up a bag of free, nutritious food.

Hiking the spectacular trails around Tahoe this time of year generally means you’ll encounter some snow. Sadly, that’s not the case this year. Even before peak summer temperatures arrive to bake the moisture out of Sierra Nevada forests, our trails are already dehydrated. This June, I am especially moved by the irony of it all: Tahoe was born more than 2 million years ago; the lake gifts us 39 trillion gallons of cobalt, alpine water and 200,000 acres of forest shade.

El Dorado County’s housing plan is available for public comment and has been
submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for review. The “2021-2021 Housing Element Update” is the County’s plan for addressing the housing needs of residents of all income levels in the unincorporated areas of the county (outside of the City of South Lake Tahoe and Placerville).

With matching donation money from the Meyers Community Foundation, Paradise Park hosted their inaugural ‘Return to Paradise’ fundraiser on Saturday with outstanding community support.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Annika Sörenstam, part-time Incline Village resident and one of the best female golfers in history, has announced she'll be joining the list of almost 90 celebrities at the 32nd annual American Century Championship at Edgewood Day in July.

Sörenstam, who will be playing from the men's tee, is one of four women playing in the tournament. She joins NBC News/TODAY Show host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer, NBC Sports anchor and on-air personality Kathryn Tappen, and GOLF Channel on-air commentator Kira K. Dixon, 2015’s Miss America.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The China Springs Youth Camp for boys has temporarily closed due to financial and staffing instability. The decision was made recently by Director of Juvenile Camp Services Wendy Garrison and Douglas County District Court Judge Nathan Tod Young. The girls camp is still operating.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Reports of an erratic driver on US-50 over Echo Summit had law enforcement on alert Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said the driver was crossing into oncoming traffic. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer J. Heitzman was on the lookout for the vehicle, a white Toyota Tundra when it was spotted west of Tamarack Pines.

Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) announced the 9th Annual Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival, this year a virtual event, to take place on Saturday, June 26. The event will be primarily online in response to evolving local and state large gathering guidelines. Anybody who enjoys Tahoe trails is encouraged to register for the event; all proceeds go to the building and maintenance of multi-use trails in the Lake Tahoe area.

Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is looking for volunteers interested in helping with seasonal events, gardening, and to be ranch house docents.

The park’s 2021 Summer Festival features a kite flying weekend, concerts, Chautauquas, and guest speakers. Assisting during these events allows volunteers to enjoy events free of charge.

Gertrude’s Garden and flower beds surrounding the park’s historic buildings are always in need of attention as the seasonal flowers grow and bloom.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Parents and students had to get creative in navigating the school year in the middle of a pandemic, and nothing may have been more out of the box than the Tahoe Garage School.

What started out as a temporary solution for the first few weeks of the 2020-21 school year, ended as a full year of 7th grade for eight boys in a garage. Yep, a garage.

6/10/21 UPDATE: The Meeks Fire is now 90 percent contained after burning 2.6 acres. Fire crews worked throughout the night and the fire is now 90% contained. They will remain in the area continuing to mop up hotspots and patrol for lingering smokes throughout the day. The cause a tree into powerlines causing the powerline.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect(s) involved in a vehicle burglary and the fraudulent use of a credit card at Cave Rock.

During the day on May 24, 2021, a vehicle parked at the Cave Rock Trailhead was broken into. A purse with several credit cards was stolen. A short time later, the stolen credit cards were used at the Walmart and Target stores in northern Douglas County. Video surveillance of these transactions shows the pictured persons using the cards (see photos above).

A Douglas County man has been diagnosed with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome after being exposed to the virus while spring cleaning, according to the Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS).

CCHHS said due to medical privacy no additional information about the case will be released.

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is a severe, sometimes fatal, respiratory disease in humans caused by an infection with hantaviruses. HPS is a rare disease with only 14 cases being reported in Nevada, outside of Clark County, since 2005.

MEYERS, Calif. - The time has finally come for a Certified Farmer's Market every Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tahoe Paradise Park! Long-time locals Leon Abravanel and his wife Kree are bringing the Meyers Mountain Market to the park all summer long, starting June 9. The market will feature fresh produce, food trucks, arts and crafts, and live music.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Those watching the level of Lake Tahoe know it is dropping quickly, and it's not just because of a lack of snowfall this year and another year of drought.

Understanding why the lake drops, and who causes it to drop (yes, there is a person - the watermaster), is key to knowing why the lake should be at its natural rim of 6,223 feet above sea level by the beginning of August. As of June 8 the lake is two feet above that rim.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Since fire knows no boundaries, state lines, or jurisdictions, a concerted effort at Lake Tahoe is underway to inform the public on wildfire preparation and awareness.

This fire season (May-October) the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) introduced the Lake Tahoe Wildfire Awareness Campaign with the first message: “Is Your Home Ignition Resistant?” Information can be found HERE.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County has announced 15 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday: 0 from Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, 4 in El Dorado Hills, 2 in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, 0 in North County, 5 in Greater Placerville, 3 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, 3 in South County, 2 in Lake Tahoe region. DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - It is time for the 111th annual Carson Valley Days celebration and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) urges attendees and those traveling through Minden and Gardnerville to use extra precautions on the road. The event will be held from June 11 to June 13.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Hope Lutheran Church is holding a parking lot Craft Fair on Saturday, June 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to join in the summer's first craft fair and enjoy local vendors, along with hotdogs and nachos.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Low pressure dropping south along the West Coast through mid-week Wednesday will bring windy conditions each day with the Red Flag Warning continuing until 9:00 p.m. Monday. There is also a Lake Wind Advisory from noon to 9:00 p.m. Monday.

After a week that saw several record highs, a cooling trend will continue with highs dropping to 10-15 degrees below average by Wednesday. Dry weather will prevail, except a few showers are possible late Wednesday in northeast California and northwest Nevada. Breezy and mild conditions may persist into next weekend.
