STATELINE, Nev. — Nigerian heavyweight Efe Ajagba hopes to take a giant leap towards a title opportunity when faces upset-minded Australian Joe Goodall in the 10-round main event Saturday, Nov. 4 at Tahoe Blue Event Center at Lake Tahoe. This will be the first boxing event at the venue, which opened earlier this month and had its first concert, Pitbull, this weekend.

Ajagba and Goodall fought as amateurs, with Goodall earning a decision in the semifinals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Fall has arrived. The aspen leaves are changing and there is a morning chill. The yellow, orange, and red are in the trees and the yellow school buses are back on the roads. All kids ages 1-10 are invited to join in the free Pumpkin Run on Sunday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. This fun event is sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Marathon and the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe.

The run is located at the finish line of the Lake Tahoe Marathon on Lakeshore Blvd. near The Landing. Distances are age-appropriate.

Participants are encouraged to park at the Golden Nugget and walk down or take the shuttle, or take Lake Link to the event.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to construction, the Bellamy parking garage at Heavenly Village will be inaccessible from Monday, October 2 through Monday, October 16.

The entrance and exit of the garage are being updated as well as configuration and flow changes. Parking along Bellamy Court will be free during this period.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Far-right extremists and hate groups have taken over the public comment periods at meetings across the state. It wasn't just El Dorado County's Board of Supervisors meeting this week, but it was also the government meetings of Sonoma County, Saratoga, South San Francisco, El Cerrito, Walnut Creek, Sacramento, Monterey, and the list is growing. The comments have harassed officials and disrupted meetings with hate-filled messages targeting racial and ethnic minorities, the LBGTQ+ community, and the Jewish community.

It was a busy week for Tahoe Forests Matter, attending several local agency meetings via Zoom or in person. The following statement was issued through public comment at the El Dorado County Supervisors and South Lake Tahoe City Council Meetings on 9/26 and at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Board Meeting on 9/27. A similar statement was made on 9/21 at the Skyland neighborhood meeting regarding the upcoming “fuel break” project in that area.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has announced the changing of the name of Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (LTESMS) to Meyers Elementary School, Home of the Bears. The new name is actually the same as the original when the school opened in 1967.

The historic Gold Hill Hotel is continuing its history lecture series with a slideshow presentation on "Reflections of Bonanza" on Thursday, October 5 at 7 p.m.

Local author and historian David Woodruff will take a look back at one of the most popular and socially groundbreaking television shows of all time in an entertaining and fun-filled 55-minute program. El Dorado County, CALIF. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors' meeting on Tuesday turned into a blitz of antisemitic hate speech during the meeting's second public comment period of the day.

Caller after caller spoke during each of their three-minute time allotments via Zoom, each of them filling the 180 seconds with derogatory comments about those of Jewish faith, as well as profanity.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - “Surfaced,” a new art installation created with more than 450 pounds of items recovered from last year’s 72-mile scuba cleanup of Lake Tahoe, was unveiled Wednesday at the new Tahoe Blue Event Center.

The art was created by Oregon-based and internationally recognized artists Joel Dean Stockdill and Yustina Salnikova of Building 180.

STATELINE, Nev. – Tahoe Beach Club successfully raised over $52,000 through its "Right Footprint" summer 2023 campaign. A significant portion, $25,772, was donated to Clean Up The Lake for the launch of their innovative Environmental Dive Center (EDC) in Incline Village, Nev.

The EDC represents a pioneering venture in environmental conservation. Doubling as both a conservation dive school and an environmental science center.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) says drivers should expect early morning travel delays as they install the traffic signal at US50 and Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove.

The early-morning travel delays will take place on Sept. 28.

The new light is being installed to enhance traffic flow and improve safety. Since July, drivers have seen daytime lane and shoulder closures as the base of the signals have been installed and other roadside improvements made.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has launched a FlashVote survey to gain further community input on code amendments needed to reduce the cost of building deed-restricted affordable and workforce housing in the region.

The FlashVote survey will be open until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27.

The Quarry Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest was one of many fires in that area started by lightning on September 9. As of Tuesday, September 26, it has burned 1,774 acres of Miwok Ranger District land.

Smoke from the Quarry Fire is visible in the area around the fire and is expected to drift to the northeast to just south of Lake Tahoe and into the Carson Valley south of US50 on Tuesday afternoon. Check out the fire and smoke map at fire.airnow.gov for more information.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Black Ice Theatre Co. presents the hilarious and horrific play “The House on Haunted Hill” based on the 1959 Vincent Price classic film and written by San Francisco-based playwright Tommy Jamerson. Performances take place October 5–14 at the South Tahoe Association of Realtors located at 2307 James Ave. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. except for the Sunday, October 8 performance which begins at 2:30 p.m. and doors opening at 2 p.m. The show runs about two hours with one 15-minute intermission.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) is aware of the arrival of Lake 2o car group participants beginning on Wednesday, September 27. In prioritizing the safety and security of the community, SLTPD has partnered with surrounding law enforcement agencies which include the California Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, Nevada State Police-Highway Division, and the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement branch for coordinated traffic enforcement through Sunday, October 1.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — In April 2023, after the second highest snow year on record, South Lake Tahoe experienced significant flooding. Unfortunately, part of the office space that Sierra Child and Family Services have called home for over 10 years was victim to flooding, causing extensive and devastating damage to its operations. Sierra Child and Family Services provides foster care, adoption, and outpatient mental health clinics with wraparound services, and is an essential part of South Lake Tahoe’s ecosystem supporting children and families.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A low-pressure system lifts quickly northeast into the Pacific Northwest through Monday, and then a deep upper trough and attendant cold front will swing across northern Cal./Nev. This will create some gusty southwest winds, but most of the higher wind speeds will be north of I80, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Expect near-average daytime temperatures and dry conditions through mid-week

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – Beginning Sept. 25, drivers will see intermittent lane closures as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) launches preliminary construction of a year-long highway improvement project to reconstruct U.S. 395 through downtown Gardnerville.

Beginning Sept. 25 through mid-winter, drivers will see 24/7 single lane closures and lane shifts on small sections of U.S. 395 between First Street and Waterloo Lane. The majority of lane closures will be short in length, with work zones of a few hundred feet.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As Barton Health celebrates its 60th anniversary they've been telling their history, decade by decade. Sixty years ago, the community’s dream of a local, Tahoe-based hospital became a reality. Barton Health has assembled a collection of articles to commemorate 60 years of quality and compassionate health care for our community and its visitors. Beginning with the 1950s, an article outlining the events of each decade will be published monthly, culminating with the 2020s on Barton’s official 60th anniversary in November.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) fall-prescribed fire program may begin as early as Monday, Sep. 25, 2023. If conditions and weather are favorable, California State Parks is scheduled to conduct understory burning on approximately 80 acres over the next three weeks in Burton Creek and Sugar Pine Point state parks and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit may begin burning piles near Fallen Leaf Lake. Smoke will be present.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe is celebrating its 50th annual fundraiser with a Golden Gala - An Evening of Food, Wine, and Beer Tasting on Friday, November 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be over 40 beer, wine, spirits, and food vendors at the event which will be held in the new Tahoe Blue Event Center.

Tickets are $100 each. All proceeds go to support the club scholarships, projects, and nonprofit support.
