COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there were another 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county since yesterday. Fifteen of those are in the Lake Tahoe region, four in El Dorado Hills, two both Placerville and Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in the North County. Three are under the age of 18, 14 aged 18-49, five aged 50-64 and two 65 and over.

This brings the total number of cases since the pandemic started to 579, 209 of those most likely still active.

There were another 302 COVID-19 tests administered, and the County received notification that 278 previous tests were negative for the coronavirus. Another 20 recoveries are likely and there have been no new deaths.

One more person has been hospitalized, with two confirmed cases in the ICU and one in a non-ICU bed. There are no patients with suspected cases of COVID-19 at this time.

There is a new interactive dashboard for COVID-19 that shows all current data in both Spanish and English. The new dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified about the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates which serves as the best approximation of the date of infection:
- symptom onset date
- diagnosis date
- specimen collection date
- date received
- date of death

The rate of new cases in El Dorado County, as shown on the dashboard pictured above, or found HERE, is the number of cases received in the state’s electronic lab reporting system (CalREDIE) over a 14-day period. The 14-day case rate being used to make the determination for whether or not a county is on the monitoring list is being calculated using episode date.

The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 5.1 percent, and the 14-day rate of new cases is 115. The Lake Tahoe and El Dorado Hills regions are High (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100 or greater). Much of the balance of the county is Moderate (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99).

The new dashboard also shows a graph of all cases, to date, or the estimated date a person become infected.

County-wide there have been 579 cases with 282 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).
