Family Science Day at UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Center

On January 5, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m., the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will host a winter-themed Family Science Day. Families are invited to explore the mysteries of snow and ice. Engaging activities will provide your child an opportunity to learn about the science of winter. Children will conduct scientific experiments, view snowflakes under a microscope, take a snow-core and determine the water content of snow, learn about wind chill and why some animals hibernate, and much more.

Everything takes place at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village, on the campus of Sierra Nevada College. Our program is designed for students’ ages 6 - 12, but all families are welcome to join in on the fun. This event is free and open to the public. Hot chocolate and holiday snacks will be provided.

In addition to the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, other participating organizations for Family Science Day include American Red Cross, Great Basin Outdoor School, IVGID WasteNOT, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships, Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, and Tahoe Resource Conservation District.
