There is theater, there is poetry, and then there is Sans Merci. There is sequence about one hour into the play Sans Merci, playing at the Duke Theater at Lake Tahoe Community College, that breathlessly and perfectly encapsulates the beauty of live theater, and it does so in shear silence. It is easy for a play to make you cry with dramatic dialogue. I have never had a play break me down to my core without a single word uttered on stage for several minutes as happens in Sans Merci.

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) was a very busy place Monday as most of the 20,000 people expected to fly in for Burning Man 2019 passed through on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Attendees to the annual event (known as Burners) were greeted at the airport RNO's therapy dogs, Paws for Passengers, who wore costumes for the day to bring smiles to arriving Burners.

Welcome activities are taking place all week at Air Playa Info, a welcome area staffed by local volunteers dedicated to assisting Burners.

Join local author and artist Angelica R. Jackson as she shares how real-life places, like the former Preston School of Industry (aka Preston Castle) in Ione, have shaped her fiction. Angelica's Faerie Crossed series of young adult, urban fantasy novels include a fictional castle based on Preston and the surrounding Mother Lode area. Plus, her ten years of photographing the landmark building led to a book of art photos (along with some ghostly experiences).

Carol Chaplin, the executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority since 2008, has been named the new chairperson of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The nine-member board oversees both the Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emanate Gallery at The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe is hosting a reception for artists Ellen Nunes and Debbie Griest on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The gallery will have a wine reception both evenings for the artists.

Every year local Reno artists open their studio doors for a weekend to thousands of art lovers. This is "Reno Open Studios"​ and will take place September 6 -8 (same weekend as The Great Reno Balloon Races) This year, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. This year artists within Nevada Marketplace, Artists Co-op Gallery Reno, Latimer Art Club and about individual 40 artists will participate. Our participating artists include watercolor, photography, sculptures, fabric/mixed media, copper, pastel, jewelry, glass, oil and acrylic.

The Tahoe Art League 13th annual Studio Tour will be held July 26, 27, 28 and August 2, 3, 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Scully is an artist with a particular interest in landscape and memory. Desolation Wilderness forms part of her ongoing work looking at how our relationship with the environment and our interactions with place have a profound affect on our own memory and emotions.

A group of locals from South Lake Tahoe are leaving town next weekend with backpacks filled with stuffed animals, toys, books, art supplies and more that will go to migrant children living with their families in shelters in Tijuana.

John Friedrich, his wife Kim and daughter Rosie will be going to Mexico joined by another local, Joanna Lilly, with the collected items. They've had help from the Bijou Community School PTA and South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) Spanish Teacher Krissi Russell.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Compass Clay Studio, a learning ceramic studio and art gallery, is open for business in South Lake Tahoe. Owners and instructors, Colleen Sidey and Bryan Yerian are ceramic artists with over 40 years combined experience, Lake Tahoe Community College art faculty members, and local elementary school art enrichment teachers. Colleen and Bryan have lived in South Lake Tahoe for over ten years and created Compass Clay Studio as a way to provide the local community with access to the clay experience.

The studio is located at 976 Edgewood Circle.

Join AAUW South Lake Tahoe in a presentation of arts groups in Tahoe. This will be a panel discussion with various art groups in Tahoe presenting their mission and activities. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Not only did internationally acclaimed illustrator and artist Rafael López came to South Lake Tahoe last week to speak to local first graders during Gift of Literacy day at Lake Tahoe Community College, but he also stopped by South Tahoe High School (STHS) and worked with students on a large mural.

In just six hours López showed the students how to create not only a work of art from several large blank panels, he also showed how to create community by collaboration and teamwork and celebrate diversity, literacy and aspiration.

The annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held on Friday, April 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The show will be staged in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. Use the Al Tahoe Boulevard entrance between the bus garage and track.

Admission to this show is FREE, and free door prize drawings will be held every twenty minutes with prizes going to show attendees.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All 280 first graders in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and Zephyr Cove Elementary are participating in the second annual Gift of Literacy day at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) on April 26.

South Lake Tahoe artist Malcolm Tibbetts has once again donated one of his famous woodturning creations to the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) Elegant Evening fundraising event on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Bids on "Ovals in the Woods" are accepted online and bidders do not have to attend the event to participate.

Tibbetts left the Heavenly management team in 2002 to start a new career that would work within his longtime love of woodworking. He is now a full-time studio artist designing, engineering and creating amazing works of art in segmented woodturning.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Arts Alliance will hold their inaugural Alliance Awards ceremony in the South Tahoe High School TADA Building on Saturday, April 13. The awards will recognize excellence in visual and performing arts as well as recognition of those who have contributed to and supported local art.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Mingling and light refreshments will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the show begins at 6:00 p.m. This is a formal event and "dress to impress."

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance are partnering for an art gallery reception on Monday, March 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at City Hall.

This quarter’s artist will be Yvonne McGrath presenting her Fantasy Flowers Series. She will be speaking at the event.

The art reception will include a meet and greet with displayed artists and city officials. All are welcome to attend. The event is free of charge.
