North Tahoe Community Alliance selects 17 projects to receive up to $20M in sponsorship and multi-year funding
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/07/2023 - 11:14amTAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tourist Business Improvement District (TBID) covering the north shore of Lake Tahoe continues to yield results that benefit the community, the environment, and the visitor.
Launched in July 2022, an assessment fee was added to all TBID business transactions for those who provide any type of visitor service including food and beverage, and retail. The fee can be paid for by the business, or added to the customer's bill, and is paid by all who use the business, visitor or not. Depending on the zone the business is located in, the fee is one or two percent.
Invasive plant barrier installation complete at South Lake Tahoe marsh
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/07/2023 - 8:59amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Agencies restoring the Taylor and Tallac marsh areas have completed the installation of bottom barriers to remove 17 acres of invasive plants as part of the comprehensive restoration of one of the last natural wetlands in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) announced this week that the collaborative project that began in December 2021 is one of the largest aquatic invasive species control projects ever undertaken in the Tahoe Basin.

Every spring and summer, with the help of South Tahoe Refuse’s current weekly pickup practices, we have cleared multiple bags or cans of pine needles and cones, vegetation, and tree limbs in order to protect our homes and the community from wildfires. This fuel reduction also qualifies our nationally recognized Firewise district for fire insurance discounts.

Group seeking signatures to get ban on VHRs on 2024 ballot in Douglas County

Linda Dengler, a Kingsbury Grade resident, said she and other county residents want to have an initiative on a 2024 ballot and they need help gathering the needed 4,388 signatures in order to get it on the ballot. The petition states VHRs would be eliminated from all residential zones by Dec. 31, 2027.

Trustee Jon Hetherton commended the District for moving in the right direction and gave accolades for the sense of community that was present during the Welcome Back Staff meeting and the New Staff Orientation event. Bernadette Santana, Classified School Employee Association (CSEA) President, also noted the excitement about the start of the new school year and the spirit of collaboration.
After holiday, utility work continues on SR28 North Lake Tahoe-Kings Beach

Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, continue to work on a gas line replacement project on Highway 28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach.
One-way traffic control is scheduled to resume between Watson Creek and Ridgewood Road in Carnelian Bay from Tuesday, September 5 at 8 p.m. until Friday, September 8 at noon. No work is scheduled on the weekend.

Richard was a dedicated doctor who touched the lives of many. Raised in Billings, Mont., Richard earned his medical degree in family practice from Loma Linda University in 1974 and later became board-certified in geriatrics in 1994. Richard's journey led him to Lake Tahoe in 1994, where he established himself as a pillar of the community and obtained the credential of Certified Medical Director.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The final night of Music in the Park for the season will be held at Tahoe Paradise Park on Friday, September 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The free event will feature Boot Juice, a River Rock and Americana band.
Organized by Meyers Mountain Market, the summer-long music series at the park has also featured food and a good community time.

Keep Tahoe Maui Ikaika stickers to raise funds for fire victims
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/30/2023 - 10:08pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There has always been a strong connection between South Lake Tahoe and Maui residents, and to support Hawaiian friends, a sticker has been created by Kenny Curtzwiler to raise funds for those in need after the deadly fires.
Keep Tahoe Maui Ikaika (which means Keep Tahoe Maui Strong) stickers are available for a minimum of a $10 donation. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Maui residents.

Man arrested after armed robbery at South Lake Tahoe gas station
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/30/2023 - 8:25pmUPDATE: The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) has updated the initial report of an armed robbery at the Chevron Gas Station on Wednesday evening. The suspect, later identified as William Ehlers, entered the gas station at approximately 3:30 p.m.and held the clerk at gunpoint.
Ehlers left with an undisclosed amount of money and an energy drink.
Recreational advisory issued at Indian Creek Reservoir due to a Harmful Algal Bloom
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/30/2023 - 3:56pmThe Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board is urging fishermen and recreational users to stay out of the water at Indian Creek Reservoir located in Alpine County. Localized areas of the lake were tested to confirm that the lake is being impacted by Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). The lake is posted with a lakewide recreational advisory of “DANGER” to alert lake users of the elevated risk.
Recreators are encouraged to follow the below guidance until further notice.
