The deadline to file is August 9, 2024. If an incumbent does not file for reelection, the filing period will be extended to August 14 for that position only.
As of Friday, August 2, the following people have completed the needed paperwork to run for office:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society hosts another Tahoe History Talks on the Beach on Tuesday, August 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview Commons. This week's speaker is local urbanized black bear expert Toogee Sielsch. He taught himself bear behavior during morning walks in the 1990s and is now South Lake Tahoe's bear authority.
Always entertaining, Toogee (pronounced 2-G) will talk about the black bear's history on the South Shore, why numbers have grown over the last decade, and how people can be better stewards in keeping bears safe.

The opposition, funded by California’s real estate lobbying group, is afraid that November’s election won’t turn out in their favor. Sharon Kerrigan, VP of the Realtors Association, recently went on record at a public meeting to say that, “governing shouldn’t happen at the ballot box.” Now they are apparently trying the courts.

The writ was directed to City Clerk Susan Blankenship and County Registrar of Voters Bill O'Neill in their official capacities, and Amelia Richmond, Nick Speal, C.T. Rowe, Kira Richardson, and Alicia Halpern as "real parties in interest."

Forward Logan Nelson
Nelson, 30, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Knight Monsters lineup. Nelson has orchestrated three productive seasons with the Rapid City Rush totaling 173 points (60g, 113a) in 179 games played from 2021-2024. Nelson served as an alternate captain for the Rush during the 2021-22 season.

Tahoe Douglas Fire raised rates for service on August 1

The rise in rates includes, but is not limited to, construction inspections, vacation home rental inspections, special event inspections, plan reviews, incident response, and stand-by fees.
Fees enable TDFPD to recuperate expenses incurred by vehicles, personnel, and materials involved with fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical services used by locals, businesses, and visitors.

Lake Tahoe air quality affected by Park Fire
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/31/2024 - 10:48pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Smoke from the Park Fire has been affecting the air quality for much of Northern California and Western Nevada, and more of the same can be expected through Thursday. The Park Fire is 18 percent contained as of June 31 and has burned 391,200 acres covering four counties, Butte, Plumas, Shasta, and Tehama.
According to AirNow, Lake Tahoe has been in the "moderate" to "unhealthy for sensitive groups" ranges, with the North Shore having the poorer air quality. Truckee is currently in the unhealthy" range.
Thursday should be more of the same.

Twenty-two-year-old Connor Brown of South Lake Tahoe man has been identified as one of three men killed during an altercation at Ely State Prison on Tuesday. The Nevada Department of Corrections also identified inmate Zackaria Luz, and the name of the third person has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

On July 26, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., A 2022 Prius was being driven northbound near Tionontati Street when, for unknown reasons, the Prius crossed into the southbound lane, hitting a 2022 GMC Sierra head-on.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A $10,000 penalty against a jet boat operator on Lake Tahoe was approved by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) during its July 24 board meeting.
In April 2024, TRPA staff received complaints and video documentation of a motorized watercraft operating more than 5 mph in the sensitive Upper Truckee River Marsh on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. Operating motorized watercraft in tributaries of Lake Tahoe and speeding within 600 feet of shore are prohibited by TRPA regulations to protect public safety, water quality, habitat, and recreation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In November 2021, a South Lake Tahoe jury of six men, and six women found Tevarez Richard Lopez guilty of murdering Dennis "Spike" Wright, Jr. at the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe on January 30, 2016. The guilty verdict led Judge Suzanne Kingsbury to sentence him to Life Without the Possibility of Parole on December 2, 2022.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - There is both good news and bad news in the annual clarity report, released Tuesday by the University of California, Davis – Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC).
The clarity of Lake Tahoe’s famed blue waters in 2023 continued its years-long trend of improving during the winter and deteriorating during the summer.
Winter lake conditions were the clearest observed since 1983 and the 10th best on record, with visibility of 91.8 feet under the surface, compared with 72.2 feet in 2022.

Smoke from the Park Fire will continue to impact portions of northeast California and western Nevada through the week, mostly north of Lake Tahoe.
The potential for thunderstorms returns late this week and into the weekend. Beyond that, things are looking warm for South Lake Tahoe (see map above).

Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/27/2024 - 6:10pmNORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project and gas-line replacement work continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.
The broadband project is a part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.
Survey work is scheduled along the eastbound shoulder of SR-28 at the following locations and times:

The public is invited to the 2024 Waší∙šiw ɁitdéɁ Festival at Meeks Bay Resort this weekend, July 27-28. Join the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California for two days of activities during the Indigenous Culture and Arts Festival.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 27 and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday 7/28. The indigenous performers are scheduled every hour throughout each day.
There are more than 30 craft, information, and food vendors. There will also be a basketweaving competition, cultural activities, and raffles

I’m gonna say it up front: “Deadpool & Wolverine” is definitely for the fans! If you loved the first two “Deadpool” movies this one will surpass it. Its star, Ryan Reynolds (back again as Wade Wilson) also co-wrote the script and co-produced it taking jabs at everybody in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) that, let’s be honest had gone stale and watered down from an overload of superheroes.
