The Barclay family is sad to announce the passing of Douglas Barclay. He passed in South Lake Tahoe on August 21, 2024. He was the beloved husband to Hellen Barclay and father to Prince Obere.
The funeral service will be held on September 5, 2024, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. at 10 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in Grace Hall.
All are welcome.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It could have been straight out of an episode of The Jetson, and part of a futuristic dream - well, the future is here. An all-electric hydrofoil boat skimming along the surface of the lake, using no gas, no lake water, the ability to make tight turns and use "crabwalk," and with no worries about waves or wakes.
Navier Boats is at Lake Tahoe this holiday weekend, following up on popular demonstrations over the Fourth of July.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 41-year-old woman has been arrested as the suspected arsonist in three separate fires that were set in Placerville. CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, assisted by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lacy Young of Waterford on Thursday, August 29 for starting the fires earlier in the day in the area of Fort Jim Road and Newtown Road.
Woman dies in fall at Lover's Leap in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There was a fatal climbing accident at Lover's Leap, Twin Bridges on Thursday afternoon. A 30-year-old woman fell while climbing with her partner and died from her injuries, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
On August 29 at about 5 p.m., El Dorado County Search and Rescue and the sheriff's office helicopter, Echo 1, responded to the area and assisted with the recovery.
At this time there is no further information that will be released. When more information becomes available this story will be updated.
$75,000 from American Century Championship to be distributed to South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Republican Women of California – South Lake Tahoe (RWC-SLT) donated $1,000 to the South Lake Tahoe Police K-9 Association to assist Officer Cory Wilson and his K-9 partner, Rocky. The police K-9 program has a unique impact on the community as the dogs assist the police department with drug enforcement, search and rescue, and locating fleeing subjects.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Great Basin Institute will be hosting local urbanized bear expert "Tahoe Toogee" at its next event at the Lake Tahoe the Sky Amphitheater at Taylor Creek on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m.
The title of Toogee's talk is "Black Bears in the Basin." This will be the first time he is visiting the stage at Taylor Creek.

Positive results following Clean Up The Lake’s research in Stampede and Boca Reservoirs

Clean Up The Lake (CUTL) and The Martis Fund have successfully concluded a new pilot research initiative, yielding even more positive results than anticipated. After completing underwater Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) surveys and submerged litter cleanups in Stampede and Boca Reservoirs from June 26th to July 3rd, 2024, the organization is pleased to report extremely low litter loads and no concerning AIS infestations.

As the Labor Day holiday approaches, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is launching a statewide enforcement effort to keep the public safe on the road through the holiday weekend.
South Lake Tahoe CHP officers will be joining the statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) beginning at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, August 30, and continuing through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 2. During the holiday weekend, all available CHP officers will be on patrol to encourage safe driving and assist motorists.
U.S. Postal Service cancels plan to move operations affecting Reno and Lake Tahoe

Nevadas U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen successfully led a bi-partisan effort to stop the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) plan to move postal operations from Reno to Sacramento. That plan would have caused local South Lake Tahoe mail to go to Reno, then to Sacramento for processing, back to Reno, and then to South Lake Tahoe.

South Tahoe MTB/Douglas MTB races at North Tahoe Challenge

South Tahoe MTB/Douglas MTB is a mountain bike team consisting of student-athletes from Lake Tahoe Unified School District and Douglas County School District. They are part of the Nevada North League of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
Many team members raced in the North Tahoe Challenge which was held on trails adjacent to North Tahoe High School. The course was a 4.6-mile lap with 450 feet of elevation gain per lap under dusty and loose trail conditions.
Two-vehicle crash jams up traffic in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A collision involving two vehicles in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday sent one person to the hospital and jammed up traffic for about an hour.
At 12:07 p.m., first responders got the call about the collision at the intersection of Takela and Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Upon arrival, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue had to extricate a woman from the inside of a Toyota Camry. She was transported to Barton Hospital with minor to moderate injuries, according to Sgt. Justin Brock of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

To Editor: My term as South Tahoe Public Utility District's (STPUD) board president ends in December, so I wanted to offer up a few thoughts on my way out the door. I was elected to the board in 2000 by the choice of just under 7,000 local voters, and have done my best to represent your interests over the last 4 years. The choice to not run for re-election was a difficult one, but it was a personal choice. There are some very good candidates to replace me; I’ll get to that in a minute.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove is celebrating a new Fire Science program, something they've been working on with Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) to be part of the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings.
This dynamic course, taught by experienced professionals from TDFPD, is designed to give students a comprehensive introduction to fire science and emergency services. It will equip students with essential fire science skills, including wildland fire behavior, fire suppression, fire prevention, CPR/First Aid, and much more.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A new play set in the days after the September 11, 2001 attacks is headed to the Valhalla Tahoe Boathouse Theater for eight performances starting Sept. 12, 2024.
The Guys” explores the emotional impact of post-Sept. 11 through the stories and lives of eight firefighters. Based on a true story, playwright and journalist Anne Nelson crafted the piece from her own experience of helping a New York fire captain write eulogies for his firefighters who died at the World Trade Center.

American Beverage grants over $300k to South Tahoe Refuse to assist with new cart system

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - American Beverage has announced a $305,600 grant awarded to South Tahoe Refuse to improve the recycling infrastructure for 19,100 South Lake Tahoe residents.
The grant, given in collaboration with The Recycling Partnership, will help fund the new recycling carts that are being rolled out this week to provide a more convenient and effective collection of trash, green waste, and recyclables. The grant will also help fund residential outreach materials with educational information on what materials can be recycled using the new carts.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - On August 30, nonprofit organizations and public school programs are welcome to apply for the following grants so long as:
- The nonprofit is in good standing with the IRS, SOS, and DOJ (AG).
- The nonprofit or school qualifies for the grant cycles (please read grant guidelines carefully.)
- The nonprofit or school directly serves El Dorado County residents in the specific areas that some of the individual grants require.
All grant cycles will open on Friday, August 30, 2024, and closing dates vary with each grant.
South Lake Tahoe City Council to work on 2025 budget during Tuesday's workshop

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next city council meeting for the City of South Lake Tahoe will be held on Tuesday, August 26 starting at 9 a.m. at the airport. This meeting will serve as the annual Budget Workshop, along with some other agenda items. The public can participate in-person or online.
The total FY 2025 (Fiscal Year 2025 that starts Oct. 1) City budget across all funds is approximately $297.2 million, including the primary General Fund budget of approximately $68.8 million and Measure S Sales Tax general fund budget of $8.0 million.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - – Eligible South Tahoe Public Utility District customers can receive a free smart water monitoring device to detect leaks, prevent water damage and be a part of a state-wide study.
California passed Senate Bill 1157 which sets new water use objectives for urban water suppliers. The regulation sets a state-wide indoor water use standard of 42 Gallons per Capita per Day (GPCD) beginning January 1, 2030. The Department of Water Resources is working with Flume to evaluate the

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Sacramento Field Office is participating in a nationwide effort, “Take a Beat,” to raise awareness of the frauds and scams impacting the public and to encourage reporting to law enforcement. NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project continuing along State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.
The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed broadband into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks help finding missing person possibly in South Lake Tahoe area

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting public assistance in locating a missing person, Brian Tucker. His 58th birthday was August 21. He is a white male adult, 5’8”, 200 pounds, bald with blue eyes. He was last heard from by family on July 29, 2024, after leaving the Reno area.
It is suspected that he is in the South Lake Tahoe area. No foul play is suspected in his disappearance at this time.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Carson

STATELINE, Nev. — Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) has announced the appointment of Kevin Lawson as the new assistant chief/special operations. Chief Lawson, a seasoned veteran with over 32 years of experience in fire service, assumed the role on August 5 and was officially sworn in on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Some outdoor event cancelations around South Lake Tahoe Friday

The Forest Service announced the Pathways for Wildlife presentation at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at Taylor Creek on Friday night is postponed and will be rescheduled for an evening in September.
