Lake Tahoe to be home to a professional hockey team co-owned by Tim Tebow
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/10/2023 - 12:25pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow was at the Tahoe Blue Events Center Monday to announce that he and partner David Hodges are bringing professional hockey to Lake Tahoe.
The new center will be home to the first professional sports team to call the Lake Tahoe area home. The team will launch in October 2024.
Hockey players from Tahoe Hockey Academy, Tahoe Prep Hockey Academy, and the Lake Tahoe Lakers were on hand for the announcement on the steps of the new center which should be open by the beginning of September.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Optimist Club's annual Day in Paradise Duck Races will be held at Tahoe Paradise Park on Saturday, July 22 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The day full of family-friendly fun will include the duck races starting at noon, a beer garden, live music, a car show and shine, and food trucks with burgers, pizza, kettle corn, sno-cones, and more.
There is also a free bike valet provided by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition.
Tahoe Paradise Park is located at 1011 E San Bernardino Avenue in Meyers.

By next weekend, a strong area of high pressure will develop across the southwestern U.S. which could yield some of the hottest temperatures so far this year with record
high temperatures possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
The final two rounds of the American Century Championship at Edgewood should see a high of 90 degrees.

The all-volunteer baseball organization said funds raised will help cover expenses associated with transportation, lodging, meals, and other incidentals for coaches the players and coaches.
The 2023 Pacific Southwest Babe Ruth 14u Regional All-Stars Tournament will be held July 16-22, followed by the 13u Regional All-Stars Tournament in Taft on July 23.

Join us for this sweet summer ritual that began at Kiva Beach in 2011. Start your Wednesday mornings connecting with nature, meditation, breath, movement and community with a guided yoga class on the beach.
Everyone welcome. Please bring a towel, blanket or outdoor yoga mat to practice on (we will be on sand). It will most likely be sunny, so if you have sensitivities, bring appropriate sun protection. After class, optional beach clean up and/or cold plunge in the lake. Class starts at 8am and runs for a little over one hour.

For years, Lake Parkway (also known as the Loop Road) has been a "No Parking" zone, but with the number of cars parking there authorities have not enforced the rules during the tournament.
That is changing this year.
Cones were placed along the road on Saturday from US50 to the state line, along with an electronic message board stating "No Parking on Loop Road."

This thinning work is part of the Aspen Community Restoration Project that aims to restore at-risk aspen stands on National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Recreationists are advised to use caution when accessing the 14N30 trail that runs along the edge of the meadow near the project area.

This new trail will reduce conflicts between hikers and bikers on the busy Tunnel Creek Road, which is a popular route to and from Monkey Rock, Marlette Flume Trail, Incline Flume Trail, and the Tahoe Rim Trail.

On July 5, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., two cars traveling on Pioneer Trail in front of Sierra House Elementary were involved in what appears to be a head-on collision.
Tahoe Douglas Fire celebrates retiring Fire Marshal Eric Guevin
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2023 - 11:13pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - For years it was Tahoe Douglas Fire Division Chief/Fire Marshal Eric Guevin who inspected the fireworks barges sitting offshore on Lake Tahoe. This year was different though, and it wasn't Guevin checking out the safety of operation as he is newly retired.
His service to the community was recently celebrated at the fire house on Elk Point Road, one that started off with a 911 Emergency Services dispatch announcement over the airwaves announcing Guevin's retirement.
Over three tons of trash collected from just one beach at Lake Tahoe; Over 8,500 pounds in total
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2023 - 5:34pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - A disgusting amount of trash was left behind by 4th of July partiers at Zephyr Shoals, an unmanaged stretch of beach just north of Zephyr Cove Resort. Volunteers from Keep Tahoe Blue collected an astonishing 6,279 pounds of litter from that small section of the beach.
In total, the cleanup at several sites around the lake was at an all-time high with 8,559 pounds of litter left behind and collected by volunteers.
CHP South Lake Tahoe writes almost 200 tickets over the holiday weekend

Between June 30 and July 4, the local officers wrote 93 moving citations and ticketed about the same for illegal and unsafe parking, many along SR89 at Emerald Bay.
South Lake Tahoe fire being investigated as arson
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2023 - 4:01pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Monday's fire in the meadow behind Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe is being investigated as arson by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).
On July 3 at 9:25 a.m., South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, U.S. Forest Service, and CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit responded to the wildfire. The quick response kept the fire at one-quarter of an acre.
South Lake Tahoe law enforcement kept busy during the July 4 holiday weekend
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2023 - 2:44pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During the July 4 holiday, South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was kept busy, responding to 443 incidents between Friday, June 30 at 6 a.m. to Wednesday, July 5 at 6 a.m. Out of those incidents for traffic stops, location checks, animal incidents, BOLOs, outside agency assistance, and regular calls for service, 64 resulted in reports being written. SLTPD made 20 arrests during this time, five on the 4th of July.

The sides of Lake Tahoe Boulevard, Ski Run Blvd, and Al Tahoe were full of holiday revelers of all ages. There were 62 entries in the parade with a total of 450 people participating.
The City of South Lake Tahoe had judges sitting at the grandstand set up at Lakeview Avenue, and the voted on the following awards:

This year’s Commencement featured a number of barrier-breaking firsts, with California Community Colleges’ first Latina chancellor serving as keynote speaker, LTCC’s first in-person commencement attendance by its Rising Scholars Program (RSP) graduates, and the first graduates from the college’s Forestry program sharing the evening together with hundreds of guests.
Women staying at Lake Tahoe lodging property wake up to intruder fondling their feet

On the morning of Sunday, July 2, and again on the morning of Monday, July 3, at approximately 4:30 a.m., female guests staying at the Wyndham resort in the 180 block of Elks Point Road in Stateline woke up to an intruder in their room fondling their feet. Once the female guests woke up, the intruder left the room via the exterior sliding screen door.
25-year-old San Francisco woman dies after slipping and falling over Eagle Falls

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Arts Project and Tahoe Valley Performing Arts present Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo Jr. at the Tahoe Valley Elementary School's Thunderbird Theater on Saturday, July 8.
The charming 60-minute musical is based on the beloved 2003 Pixar film Finding Nemo. There will be two shows, one at 2 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m.

I suggest the agencies including South Lake Tahoe Police Department work together to put the responsibility squarely back on those who litter and start FINING them when they do it!
Why is it the residents’ job to clean up after these slobs?
Two former Navy shipmates continue reunion tradition at South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Parade

Now, in 2023, the new tradition continues.
The year was 1962, and Orly Larson and David Kramer enlisted in the Navy from their perspective hometowns. Two years later the men met when they were assigned to the USS Belknap DLG26, what was then a brand-new guided-missile destroyer.
South Lake Tahoe fire held to one-quarter acre in size; cause under investigation
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2023 - 8:35am11AM UPDATE: - This morning, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR), U.S. Forest Service, and CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit responded to a small wildfire behind Motel 6 on US50 in South Lake Tahoe. The fire was reported at approximately 9:25 a.m. and forward progress has been stopped.
According to SLTFR Battalion Chief Karl Koeppen, the fire burned about 1/4 acre in the meadow behind Motel 6, an area known to be frequented by homeless with encampments. Koeppen said the large plume of smoke came from items at a camp burning beside brush, no propane tank, but transient belongings.

Rain-free conditions along with typical summer breezes during the late afternoon and early evening hours are in each day's forecast.
Fireworks viewing weather looks to be very favorable with daytime highs at Lake Tahoe near 83, and overnight lows down to the low 50s with wind around 5 mph.

They said over the past couple of weeks, SLTPD had been called to the 1200 block of Margaret Ave. on multiple occasions for
Delacruz acting in violent and erratic behavior.

The BEBOT was unveiled last summer, and it is now back for more duty.

Symptoms of cold water immersion can occur at water temperatures as warm as 77 degrees; Lake Tahoe’s water temperatures average 50 – 60 degrees Fahrenheit in early summer, warming throughout the season to 65 – 75 degrees.

The Sierra Alphorn Players will be performing that evening at Lakeview Commons. They are a local ensemble of Swiss mountain horn musicians who
will be performing traditional Swiss pieces dating from the 18th through the 20th centuries

New weapon for keeping invasive species out of Lake Tahoe for non-motorized watercraft
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/02/2023 - 12:29pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe boat inspections have been keeping invasive species off of boats entering the lake for years, and a new tool for keeping them off non-motorized watercraft is now available and on display in South Lake Tahoe.
The CD3 machine helps prevent the spread of invasive species and it will be at Kiva Beach from June 30 to July 6.
Visit the beach and use the machine on your non-motorized watercraft.
Using the CD3 machine is simple - follow the instructions on the side of the machine.
