SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is being updated to reflect the needs of local communities around the basin. It has been seven years since the plan was last updated, and during that time there have been a lot of changes in the landscape, including the completion of many fuels reduction projects, substantial development of Fire Adapted Communities, and the impacts of the Caldor Fire in South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A single fixed-wing aircraft went down in Lake Tahoe Saturday morning at Rubicon Bay. The two people on board were rescued by citizen boaters in the area, with one of those from the plane having a serious head injury, according to El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) Captain Michael Lensing.

The plane is now fully submerged underwater.

EDSO has units responding to assist and their boat is on the water at the scene to watch for fuel leaks and other Hazmat issues.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Library will host Wild Things, Inc. on Friday, July 7. The free outdoor show starts at 2 p.m. at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe. Wild Things Inc. will bring an exciting mix of animals and share a message of conservation and appreciation for wild animals.

This program is part of the library's Summer Reading Challenge.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Drivers Beware! Throughout the year the Lake Tahoe Basin experiences fluctuations in the number of visitors and vehicle traffic. The winter ski and summer recreation seasons bring more vehicles to the Tahoe Basin, which increases the risk of bears being struck by vehicles. Bear-vehicle collisions pose a risk to bears, people, and property.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local Girl Scout and South Tahoe High School student Sadie Beall envisioned a campaign to educate the people about the dangers of cold water shock. Her dad Lucius, general manager of Tahoe Keys Boat Rentals, would share stories with Sadie about the people who die in Lake Tahoe and she wanted to do something about it.

"It's so preventable, but nobody is listening," Sadie said of cold water shock and the education that surrounds it annually at Lake Tahoe.

WASHOE LAKE, Nev. – Scientists sampling surface waters at Washoe Lake State Park have identified a potential Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) along the shoreline of the lake. The Interagency HAB Task Force – comprised of officials from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Nevada State Parks, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife – are working together to ensure the public is notified to help protect the health of park visitors and their pets.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is preparing for the upcoming 4th of July celebration and is wishing everyone a safe and happy Independence Day. Due to the volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core, Nevada Beach, and Zephyr Cove areas throughout the holiday, DCSO is reminding residents and visitors to be safe and mindful of the laws surrounding the festivities.

The goal of DCSO is to protect life and property while at the same time allowing celebrants to enthusiastically celebrate the holiday. DCSO emphasizes safety first.

7:45PM UPDATE: A crane has removed the plane from the runway and it is now reopened. About seven gallons of fuel spilled and it has been cleaned up.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A four-passenger Bellanca Super Viking plane had to land at Lake Tahoe airport Wednesday afternoon without the use of its landing gear.

A call came in at South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) at 6:32 p.m. about a pilot unable to get their plane's landing gear down. By the time the first responders made it to the airport, the plane had already landed on its "belly."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The dinner guests at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on June 19 were raving about the evening’s dinner of Chicken Cacciatore, Rigatoni, sauteed zucchini, and garden salad. EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Tiffany Schmid to permanently fill the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) during its meeting Tuesday. Schmid has been acting and interim CAO for three months. She will be responsible for the County's budget and its overall operations.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has provided the following helpful information and links to ensure a safe holiday weekend at Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is hosting a series of sessions around Lake Tahoe to foster meaningful discussions with Executive Director Julie Regan on critical topics. Morning Coffee Talks in May and June gave community members the chance to share their thoughts on issues affecting Lake Tahoe and our communities like housing, traffic and safety, and major projects.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After a long and destructive winter, it was no surprise that $5 Dump Day 2023 was a busy one! Now in its 34th year, Dump Day is a perennial community favorite. This year the event drew 620 cars through the line, and the Clean Tahoe field crew completed 39 curbside pick-ups for senior or disabled residents, with 438,000 pounds of debris collected in total.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is proposing to temporarily restripe a one-mile section of US50 on Tahoe’s East Shore to reconfigure the highway from two lanes to one lane in each direction, with a middle turn lane. Highway officials say this is a limited test project aimed at enhancing transportation safety and access on the corridor.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Flatstick Pub will be holding a week of events during the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe. In collaboration with Tahoe Art League, Flatstick Pub has announced an art competition that takes inspiration from the electrifying energy of a battle of the bands. On July 14 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. the "battle" brings together renowned celebrities from various artistic disciplines, providing a unique platform to showcase their talents.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Food Bank starts its free monthly farmer's markets in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Theresa Church at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe.

The truck will be bringing fresh vegetables, fruit, and other staples each month.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join Mayor Cristi Creegan and the City's Complete Streets Program Manager Jason Burke as they share the history of the Class I bike trails, some new additions to the trails, and future expansions on Tuesday, June 27 from 5 p.m to 7 p.m.

The Community Hike will take place along the bike trail adjacent to El Dorado Beach (1-mile round trip). The meetup location will be at Champion's Plaza next to the Lakeview Commons parking area.

After the hike, enjoy some ice cream while overlooking the lake (dairy-free options will be available).

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - NV Energy will resume work on its Carson City to Glenbrook Transmission Line Rebuild Project on Monday, June 16 in the Glenbrook and Spooner Summit area.

During construction, the public may experience traffic delays primarily within the Spooner Summit area of US50 and just south of the SR28 interchange. The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), Spooner Summit Trailhead, and Spooner Summit South Day Use Area will remain open for public use.
