GIVE Tahoe supports nonprofits who work for and within the South Lake Tahoe Area. The GIVE Tahoe Grant is open to all nonprofits, agencies and schools serving the residents and communities of South Lake Tahoe. Proposals of up to $5,000 will be considered. This grant does not have a specific focus allowing the opportunity to respond to South Lake Tahoe’s most important needs.

There will be free pizza and drinks. Ski patrollers specialized in ropes will be available to assist any adaptive climbing needs.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Tahoe Arts Project on Friday, March 31 as they bring the Caminos Flamencos to South Lake Tahoe for a public performance at Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theater at 6 p.m.
After a week of performances in local schools, the Caminos Flamencos is bringing a fun night of music and dance from Spain to the community.
Tickets at the door are $10 for adults, and $5 for children.

Another Winter Storm Watch for Lake Tahoe Monday night - Wednesday morning

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Monday, March 27 at 6 p.m. to Wednesday, March 29 at 5 p.m.
Heavy snow is possible with otal snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet west of Highway 89, 8 to 18 inches in the Tahoe basin and above 5500 feet west of Highway 395, and 2 to 6 inches below 5500 feet. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph in valley locations with up to 100 mph along Sierra ridges.
Leonard G. Funderburk ~ 1943 - 2023
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/25/2023 - 5:16pmLeonard G. Funderburk was born in Washington, North Carolina on July 22, 1941. He entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ suddenly on February 24, 2023.
Leonard was a long-time resident of South Lake Tahoe. He graduated from Canoga Park High School in Canoga Park, Calif. He enjoyed sports and coached a women's softball team for A & K Plumbing in the 1970s. He also appreciated vintage cars, especially Corvettes.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/25/2023 - 4:59pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been 2,607 days since Dennis "Spike" Wright, Jr. was killed in front of the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe on January 30, 2016, and on Friday the last of the men accused of killing Spike was sentenced to prison.
Domenic Seanlee Randolph, 29, pleaded guilty earlier this month to manslaughter, and on Friday, March 24, 2023, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for manslaughter and other charges.
Gabriel Ruedorfer Cozzaglio ~ 1929 - 2023
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/25/2023 - 9:46amGabriel "Gabi" Ruedorfer Cozzaglio was born in Germany on January 29, 1929, and died on March 22, 2023. She had three older brothers and a younger sister who passed away before her.
She lived in the extreme of World War II and remembered having to be quiet when bombs were going off. Her mother would go out to protest the war and the family always prayed that she would come home and be safe. Gabi was her dad's favorite and she said he always spoiled her. She was the smallest in the family and when clothes or shoes were handed down she stuffed the shoes with paper so she could wear them.
South Lake Tahoe man murdered at bar inside Hard Rock Hotel, suspect arrested

According to DCSO Sheriff Dan Coverly, his department was called to the hotel just after 8 a.m. on a report of an active shooter.
Assessor says El Dorado County homeowners may be eligible for property tax relief

TRPA approves plans for Lake Tahoe Community College dormitory
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/24/2023 - 5:07pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During its meeting on Wednesday, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board unanimously approved a 33-room, 100-bed dormitory for Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) in South Lake Tahoe.
The dorms will be deed-restricted for low-income LTCC students from the Lake Tahoe region and California only. The target date for opening is July 1, 2025.
South Tahoe High's sports medicine students place high in national competition
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/24/2023 - 4:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe High School's (STHS) Sports Medicine students attended the National High School Sports Medicine Competition in Los Angeles last weekend and came home with several trophies.
As a team, STHS placed third out of over 40 schools and Rossi Bonev’s individual score placed her fifth out of over 600 students. The Tahoe students also participated in a Sports Med Jeopardy contest, placing third overall!
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe to be acquired by Fertitta Entertainment

The company, which also owns the Chart House chain and the Houston Rockets, announced they signed a purchase agreement to acquire the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada, including land and business situated on twenty-four acres from Paragon Gaming for an undisclosed price.
The transaction is expected to close within the next seven to twelve months, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
Douglas County Sheriff seeks public's help in identifying armed robbery suspects

After she suffered through years of suffering terrible abdominal pain and violent vomiting attacks, neighbors found Stephanie in the fetal position and in agony in her home in January. She was rushed to the hospital in Carson City. After she was stabilized, doctors ran a Gastric Emptying Study, finding Stephanie to have severe Gastroparesis.
South Tahoe High seniors commit to LTCC and Simpson College for sports at next level

During a traditional high school signing ceremony with family and friends watching on Thursday, Itzel Diaz, Jenni Arias, Salvador Arias, and Aiden Morales all committed to LTCC Soccer Coach Jeremy Evans to play for him in the Fall. Aiden was a 1st Team All-League striker, Jenni a 1st Team All-State, and Itzel was Honorable Mention All-State.

During its previous meeting, the Board of Supervisors had voted 3-2 to disband the commission in a first reading, then on March 21, the same 3-2 vote sealed the deal in a second reading.

New issue on SR89 at Emerald Bay - slide sends trees and snow onto bridge
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/22/2023 - 4:19pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Highway 89 around Emerald Bay has been closed for weeks due to the large amount of snow needing to be safely cleared from the roadway. Caltrans crews have just hit a significant roadblock in their continued efforts to reopen the highway.
A massive slide has happened and the stretch of road approaching and onto the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct is now littered with trees, boulders, and several feet of snow.
The bridge will need to be cleared of snow and the structure inspected for damages before it can be reopened to traffic.

Reno resident arrested after allegedly stealing purse from car at Lake Tahoe day care

Tax filing deadline moved for those living in El Dorado County and others under State of Emergency

There will be no penalties assessed between April 18 and October 16 on payments that may be owed with 2022 tax filings.
Originally the extension was moved to May, but with the onslaught of storms January-March, authorities moved the date out to October 16 to help residents who were coping with the disasters.

This quaint, historic town is strategically located in the Eastern Sierra and is an ideal location for event activations. The tentative location of the Farmer’s Market is on Montgomery St. between Highway 89 and Laramie Rd. Winners of first round onto second in March Tahoe Trails Madness

The Rubicon Trail dominated its first-round matchup over Ellis Peak, receiving 83 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, Mt. Tallac and the Incline Flume Trail each barely survived the first round, receiving under 55 percent of votes in their respective matchups.

Douglas County seeks VHR permit holder to fill out term on advisory board

All applicants must be Douglas County residents. The current vacancy is for a VHR Permit holder who resides in the Tahoe Township.
This appointed applicant would serve out the existing term which expires December 31, 2023, at which point, the appointee can re-apply for a 4-year term.
More Lake Tahoe ski areas announce the extension of season
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/21/2023 - 10:19amLAKE TAHOE, Calif. – With a wild winter season and near-record-setting snowfall across the region, Northstar California, Heavenly Mountain Resort, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort will add additional days to ski and ride season, allowing guests to enjoy an even longer spring season on the slopes this year.
Heavenly will add three full weeks to its schedule, with a new closing date of Sunday, May 7.
Northstar will add two additional weekends, remaining open Friday, April 21 – Sunday, April 23, and Friday, April 28 – Sunday, April 30.
South Lake Tahoe has had over 76 percent of days at below-average temperatures this winter
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/21/2023 - 9:35amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you think it's been colder at Lake Tahoe this winter, you're right! Not only have snowfall amounts been above average, but so have the daily temperatures.
Between November 1, 2022 and March 20, 2023, 103 days in South Lake Tahoe saw below-average temperatures out of the 134 days where the temperature was recorded. This is 76.87 percent of the winter.
The cold started early in South Lake Tahoe as November 2022 had 25 days with below-average temperatures at an average of seven degrees a day. Twelve days were below average by double-digits.
Crews continue to work on closed US395 at Mono Lake after multiple avalanches

The road had been closed along the Walker River and near Bishop, and now a series of avalanches along US395 between Lee Vining and SR167 has kept the highway closed for weeks.
The closure is due to multiple avalanche incidents from February 25-28 in the area of the 2016 Marina Fire. About 1/2 mile of the highway was closed by a 30-40 foot wall of snow.

World Down Syndrome Day to be celebrated at Sierra House Elementary
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/20/2023 - 2:13pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students and staff at Sierra House Elementary School in South Lake Tahoe will be rocking crazy socks on Tuesday in honor of World Down Syndrome Day and their three students who have Down Syndrome.
Tuesday, March 21 is National Down Syndrome Day, and Sierra House Elementary is celebrating its three students with Down Syndrome, David Munguia Reyes, who is in the third grade, and fourth graders Micah Cooley and Dylan Polan.

Mt. Rose Ski Area at Lake Tahoe offers late skiing on Fridays, spring specials

Rose Ski Tahoe will stay open late on Fridays, spinning select chairlifts until 6 p.m. Making the most of daylight saving and incredible snow conditions, the resort is extending its operations by two hours on Fridays to give skiers and riders the opportunity to take “bonus runs” this spring.
The $59 “Ski G.I.F.” Friday Daily Special discounted lift ticket after 12 p.m. makes Fridays even more special with the later skiing and snowboarding PLUS a great deal on tickets.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/20/2023 - 11:53amOn March 9, 2023, the South Lake Tahoe Republican Women, Federated hosted its annual Lincoln/Reagan Dinner at The Bistro at the Corner.
After a wonderful dinner, guest speaker James Smack, State of Nevada's chief deputy controller, provided interesting history on President Lincoln and President Reagan. He also alerted the group about the dangers of a new investment strategy being pushed called “ESG” (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Many of the larger banking institutions are investing monies into ESG funds, which are risky at best, he said.

Thanks to their AAD donation of $300 and sending an excellent sponsor crew to the Monday Meal dinner, over 74 dinners were served to the very grateful folks who came for a hot and tasty meal and the bags of food provided to those who join Bread & Broth's (B&B) weekly meal for dinner.
