SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After an overwhelming situation in March 2024, many residents are concerned with snow removal for the upcoming winter. The El Dorado County Department of Transportation (DOT) will be holding a public meeting in South Lake Tahoe to discuss plans for and take questions about the upcoming winter snow removal operations in the unincorporated portions of the Basin.
Judge issues initial ruling against Douglas County School District and trustees

This is according to Judge Thomas Gregory of the Ninth Judicial District Court of Nevada.
Continued delays on SR28 between Kings Beach and Tahoe City for broadband project

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed internet into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.
Utility work and striping operations with one-way traffic control are scheduled along SR-28 at the following locations and times:

The American Cancer Society estimates one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. In 2024, approximately 310,720 women were diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer and though rarer, approximately 2,800 men received the same diagnosis.
While there isn’t one magic solution to prevent breast cancer, certain lifestyle practices, early detection, and swift treatment can help reduce the development or the spread of this disease.

“If you missed the October 21 close of registration deadline to register for the November 5, 2024, Presidential General Election, you can still register to vote by coming to the Elections office at 3883 Ponderosa Rd. Shingle
Springs CA, 95682, or any vote center in the county and complete a voter registration form and vote conditionally,” O’Neill said.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/26/2024 - 10:44pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area for Sunday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The advisory is for South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Glenbrook, Incline Village, Stateline, Markleeville, and Tahoe City.
Expect southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Waves could be 2 to 4 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
South Lake Tahoe firefighters start foundation to fundraise for causes

Lakeside Park Association wins Best Tasting Water in California award

The Lakeside Park Association is a small area of South Lake Tahoe, located just behind the casinos along US50. This historic area is bordered by Park Avenue and Stateline Boulevard from the highway down to Lake Tahoe. This area was subdivided in 1909 into home-size lots used as campgrounds and kept the name Lakeside Park as the first subdivision in El Dorado County.

Elizabeth Shepherd*, the former director of Student Services and Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), is now focusing solely on SELPA as the Director of Tahoe-Alpine SELPA, while Brenna Dillman has been promoted to Student Services/Special Education Coordinator for the district.

While some ballot measures are necessary, the default position we as voters should take is ‘Why am I being asked to vote on this now?' We should always assume that ballot measures are a last resort to circumvent the normal political processes we have in place and rely on, to serve our community day in and day out.

There’s a sense of anticipation humming just below the surface of every conversation and every weather report. You may find yourself staring longingly at your skis or board that has sat dormant since last spring. It’s an anxious, excited feeling – a good one.
But there’s also a different, more foreboding type of anxiousness we all deal with. It starts in early summer and only fades away when the snow falls.

Kudos: Pinkleball in Paradise fundraiser nets $17,352

This spirited fundraiser is dedicated to raising money for local and national cancer support and research organizations, with an emphasis on breast cancer organizations. This year’s event set a record fundraising total of $17,352.
TRPA taps South Tahoe High alumnus as its next general counsel

He will oversee compliance cases, violation settlements, and other legal issues for the bi-state agency. He will fill the position held by the retiring John L. Marshall, who has served as TRPA counsel for 25 years.

The Nevada Day Parade returns this Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024! There will be a hot air balloon launch at 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. The military fly-over will signal the start of the parade, which begins at William Street and N. Carson Street and ends four hours later at the intersection of Stewart Street and S. Carson Street. The parade features marching bands, floats, equestrian groups, historical displays, Burning Man art cars, and much more.
The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. The Grand Marshall this year is country singer Lacy J. Dalton.

Time has gone by since the group had served their community service together but all the characters remain. Older, (though perhaps not wiser), they are ready to get together again, and this time they are doing a Christmas show.

With the increase in guests, volunteers are now adding tables and chairs to the Grace Hall dining room to accommodate everyone. The dinner guests also enjoy the ‘food to go’ bags filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, and an assortment of meats, canned goods, bread and pastries, and varied food products depending on the generous donations of local businesses.

Helicopter crashes into river in Alpine County, pilot has minor injuries
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/23/2024 - 8:56pmALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - A day of fishing on the East Carson River in Alpine County didn't end up as planned for one man. On Tuesday, October 24, the Alpine County Sheriff's Office received a report of an overdue fisherman who had flown his privately owned helicopter to go fishing.
Alpine County Sheriff Tom Minder and deputies responded to the area of the East Carson River to locate the fisherman. While en route, deputies were notified the fisherman had called 911 to report his helicopter crashed and was currently in the river.

National Forest facilities at Lake Tahoe closing for season

Seasonal closures apply to facilities at many recreation areas and sites including beaches, campgrounds, forest roads, parking lots, picnic areas, and trailheads.

Snowmaking kicks into gear at Lake Tahoe ski resorts, November opening dates planned
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/22/2024 - 10:08amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Fall is still holding on with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures in the forecast, but last week's two-day drop cold spell was enough for resorts to start making snow for the 2024-25 ski season.
Northstar and Heavenly will open for skiing and riding on November 22, with Kirkwood following closely on December 6,
All opening dates are subject to change due to conditions. They may be adjusted as time gets closed so check on individual resorts if planning a trip.
Sierra-at-Tahoe's targeted opening date is November 29.

When completed, Sugar Pine Village will be a 248-unit community, transforming what was once vacant state-owned land into affordable housing for families and workers in the Tahoe region.
Forest thinning projects continue around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/21/2024 - 8:28pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) forest thinning (fuels reduction) projects are underway and scheduled to continue through fall 2024, conditions and weather permitting. North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Liberty Utilities, NV Energy, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit are working together to protect Lake Tahoe communities by reducing excess vegetation (fuels) that can feed unwanted wildfires.

While much of South Lake Tahoe does not get California television stations like KCRA, the debate can be seen on the KCRA app. Voters in District 3 include those from the northern Sierra to Death Valley, including South Lake Tahoe, other parts of El Dorado County, and Alpine, Inyo, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra Sacramento, and Yuba counties.
Weather temperature roller coaster in South Lake Tahoe with mostly mild days
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/21/2024 - 6:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It will be another weather roller coaster in South Lake Tahoe this week, from highs near 70, along with a chance of rain and upper-elevation snow. Mild and dry weather will prevail at the beginning of the week, with southwest winds midweek, and unsettled weather and cooler temperatures starting overnight Sunday into early next week.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

If a group of us are standing on a corner with signs saying “Outlaw Glazed Donuts,” then we are showing the world that Americans are free. Greatness is defined as possessing qualities like courage, compassion, wisdom, and morality. As Americans, we inspire and uplift others, and have a positive effect on the world.
